[kubuntu] Can't see Windows shared files/folders over network.

New install of Kubuntu 19.04. Connected to the Internet (finally) over WiFi. I want to access remotely shared drives over my home network but Kubuntu doesn't even detect the presence of a remote network.

"Samba" is installed and I tried a utility called "Smb4K" but it too does not detect any networks.

I tried to add a Remote Network from "Dolphin" (entering my local Windows PC's IP address for the "Server"), but it didn't help.

I don't really know Linux well enough to know what's wrong. Please help. TIA.

New install of Lubuntu 20.04 LTS can't connect to Internet

I installed Lubuntu 20.04 LTS over 18.04 LTS. No internet connection is working. It seems neither my ethernet nor my wi-fi is recognised. "Wired connection 1" in network manager icon is disconnected. If I click on it nothing happens. "Wi-fi networks" is greyed out. Right click shows "Enable Wi-fi" is checked. Click on "Wi-fi request scan" does nothing at all. Please let me know what information to post so you can help me. Many thanks.

[ubuntu] gdm3 doesn't work with pam_mount in 20.04.

Hi,

I have updated my Ubuntu 18.04.4. to 20.04. I'm authenticating against a Samba Server running on Ubuntu Server 18.04. I'm using pam_mount to mount three network shares. After the update of the client to 20.04. only one share is mounted when using gdm3. When I switch to LightDM or log in via console all three drives are mounted correctly. With gdm3 the mountpoints are created but the share isn't mounted. Logs claim
Code:

mount error: could not resolve address for MY.SECRET.DOMAIN: Unknown error
. However, DNS works correctly and the error occurs only when using gdm3. Any ideas?

Can proxychains any downloaders?

It's well-known `proxychains wget` to keep the wget traffic through proxy, but wget is not my favourite downloader, due to many reasons, I want to proxychains uget-gtk, downloaders with GUI, or even torrent clients and ed2k, how possible to do these?

Logitech Bluetooth Keyboard goes Unresponsive

Hi
I am using Logitech K350 Bluetooth keyboard and M235 Bluetooth mouse using single Unity dongle, received with the Mouse. I Paired the Keyboard to this dongle using a windows machine one year back. Recently I started facing issues with the Keyboard that it goes unresponsive after some time. Even if the keyboard was in use, it will not respond to all the keys. But some of the key combinations such as, ctrl + alt + F1 could work and in the virtual console, My keyboard could work normal. Usually Once I switch back to the X server environment (ctrl + alt + F7) Keyboard will function again.
I am running Ubuntu 16.04 with gnome fallback.

Code:

Weird thing is, The default keyboard of my laptop also goes unresponsive at this state - unless the dongle is removed. Also the mouse (Bluetooth mouse and touchpad) can navigate but clicks wouldn't work. The dmesg after the error recovery is as follows.
Code:

Hi,

I am am experiencing slow wifi for a
Linksys WMP54GS v1.0 wireless PCI card with Ubuntu Server 20.04
installed, e.g. apt-get has taken 18 minutes 41 seconds to fetch 459Kb.

Following the advice from here, I have installed the firmware-b43-installer
package. The card is recognised and allocated an IP. However, it is very slow.
Posting here in the hope that somebody can help. As shown in the
system log information below the b43-pci-bridge is showing messages concerning
swiotlb buffer is full.

Using the wireless-info tool the wireless system configuration is available at:

https://pastebin.com/aUhd35m7

Has anybody managed to get the Linksys WMP54GS v1.0 card working
on Ubuntu Server 18.04.4+ using b43 drivers or ndiswrapper?

Hello I have ubuntu 20 latest. I have setup 4 drives as a file sharing drives. Two of them are in raid 0 for mirroring and the other two drives are setup in raid 0 morning also. All drives are in software raid. The problem I’m facing dense I don’t. Have any more SATA ports to put a redundant drive on the main drive what happens if my main drive dies, Do I lose the raids on all drives can they be recovered if I put in a new main drive? I just don’t want to lose what I have if the main drive fails.

Hello first time poster and also Ubuntu noob. Some help would be greatly appreciated.

When I am next to my router I get around 40mbps speed, but when I go to another room my speed fluctuates frequently. It ranges from less than 1mbps to 10mbps. Could it be fixed with a terminal command regarding wifi strenght?

I also tried installing drivers as explained in the sticky thread but I get no output when I enter
Code:

lspci -nn -d 14e4:
The following codes were succesfully ran as well:
Code:

sudo apt update
sudo apt dist-upgrade

[ubuntu] Issue with WiFi adapter.

Hello all, I'm extremely new to Linux so I watched a few youtube videos and looked up some guides; I made myself a bootable USB to test out PopOS, which didn't go well, so I swapped to Ubuntu. However even after swapping to ubuntu I'm still having the same issue, my WiFi adapter is a rtl8821ce which is apparently not officially supported and therefore I don't have access to wifi at all. I tried doing this https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/rtl8821ce-dkms-git/ because apparently it also works for Ubuntu, but to no avail. I'm not sure if it just doesn't work due to an updated kernel? Or maybe because I'm trying to do these installations via USB (I'm extremely uncomfortable with the idea of making the swap before I know I can get everything working properly)? From what I know, I'm just on Ubuntu 20.04 AMD64; any help would be appreciated, especially if it leads to my being able to make the swap. Also, I'm on a laptop so I'm not sure how easily I would be able to physically swap out the WiFi adapter as I have almost no experience tinkering with laptops.

There was also a video on Youtube about being able to use the additional drivers program in Ubuntu to download the drivers, however when I do that it tells me there are no additional drivers even though in the video it obviously shows exactly what I need.

Ubuntu Server ethernet

I tried using ubuntu server so I can install i3 without any other desktop. I booted it up and plugged in my ethernet cable (Which did work on other installs of ubuntu) and no lights and my pc was not connected. I thought that I just had to put the interface up so I tried with Ifconfig and it said that the command ifconfig did not exist and I needed to install it. But how do I install net-tools without internet. Is there a way that i can connect without the use of ifconfig. (I'm using ethernet) because I really want to get it up and running. Any help would be much appreciated

However, if I run this command in the terminal (sudo openconnect myvpn.example.com) I am able to access the websites.
How can I fix this?

[ubuntu] Slow WiFi Connection with Centrino Wireless-N 1000 and Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS

Hi Forum Members,

I am experiencing continued intermittent wifi speeds with Centrino Wireless-N 1000 and Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS.

I implemented the suggestions of Chili555 here.

And configured /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi.conf with the following content:

Code:

options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1
options iwlwifi swcrypto=1
options iwlwifi 11n_disable=8
options iwlwifi bt_coex_active=0

based on suggestions here and here.

I updated the wifi drivers based upon the suggestion here.

Output of lspci -knn | grep Net -A2:

Code:

05:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 1000 [Condor Peak] [8086:0084]

    Kernel driver in use: tg3
    Kernel modules: tg3

Output of iwconfig:

Code:

Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:483  Missed beacon:0

I haven't been able to identify what conditions slow the wifi. I have a Windows machine located next to this machine and I can confirm the Windows machine on the same network has appropriate wifi speeds when the Ubuntu machine slows.

Any help will be appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

Acer Predator PH317-52, network stuck on 100MBit

$

Hi,

I have an Acer Predator PH317-52 machine with Kubuntu 18.04 installed.
Kernel version is 5.3.0-51-generic.
The problem is the speed of Ethernet, it is stuck at 100Mbps and should be 1Gbps.
The card in question, as stated by output of lspci, is:
Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 12)
I am not sure if the card is RTL8111, RTL8168 or the RTL8411, this is very confusing. From googling it seems to be RTL8168.

I am certain that this card supports 1 Gbit and have also confirmed that all the other network gear is ok, I can get 1Gbit from Windows OS.
I have tried manually setting the value to 1000 Mbps from network manager, but it wouldn't connect at all when i did this.
I have also tried setting the autonegotiation on in network manager. I have tried both the steps below with ethtool too.
All the settings apply successfully but autonegotiation always sets speed to 100Mbps and setting it to 1Gbit always fails to connect.
I have tried installing the r8168-dkms package from apt-get but the results are the same (installation finished with no problems).
Here is the output of ethtool:
Code:

ethtool enp7s0f1

I don't know what to do next and I'm not even sure what the problem is.
I would be grateful for any advice on how to proceed.

Edit:
With an USB3.0 ethernet adapter i get full 1Gbit connection speed.

I recently installed ubuntu 18.04 LTS in dual boot with windows7, but wifi fails to connect. My network is detected but when I enter my password it takes some time and send me again the password window without connecting, whereas I can get a wired connection. my laptop Acer has a wifi card broadcom; BCM 43225 and its driver is detected, moreover every thing seems to be OK. I asked everywhere (ask ubuntu, forums…), I learned hundreds of pages and executed dozens of maneuvers feeling every time to be very near to the goal, but without any success, I’m getting tired and desperate!!!!

Streaming media to VLC on Fire stick with password protection

$

Hello,

My aim is to stream my media content to my TV which has an Amazon Fire stick. On there, I use VLC.

It used to work fine until the upgrade to Ubuntu 20.04: to make it work I was using samba, but system-config-samba has been removed a couple of distros ago and with 20.04 I now can't install it any longer.

The contents of smb.conf did not change, but now I can't access my content with VLC any longer. I think the issue lies with the fact that I want access to the shared folders to be password protected, only accessible by a specific user (therefore I am not using the Ubuntu option to share media through rygel, because there's no password protection).

nautilus-share isn't helping either.

I've read so many guides now on how to set up samba, but they all say the same thing and I always come to the same result: I can access public folders, but not those that require authentication.

What can I do?

[ubuntu_budgie] Ubuntu Budgie 20.04 new install No wifi adapter found

Hi,

I've installed a brand new Budgie 20.04 LTS but I keep getting this: No wifi adapter found. I've already tried a dozen solutions found on the Internet before coming here, but with no success thus far.

I tried this too: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2214110

I've installed the distro in parallel to Windows 10 (wifi works there just fine). Laptop: HP Pavilion (some old crap from 2015).

I reinstalled thrice now - with 3rd party software and without. Nothing.

Any clue how I could resolve this bitch of an issue? :(
