Is it possible to let the configuration reside in /etc/network/interfaces, but then use some sort of GUI indicator to show the network status?
I am not sure if Network Manager can deal with configuration which involves bridges, bonded connections, ifplugd etc. Can it (everywhere I looked on the internet, the advice was to disable the network manager in favour of configuration in /etc/network/interfaces if devices were to be configured in complex configurations and at boot time)?
How well does Network Manager play with tools like ifplugd?
Alternatively, is there a GUI indicator which can show connection status of various interfaces in /etc/network/interfaces, thus replacing the network-manager applet?
