I have already posted a question regarding my problem here:

http://askubuntu.com/questions/12710...153093_1271027

But didn't got any helpful response

Basically I have a dual booted system with Windows 10 and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. I can easily connect to my home WiFi with Windows but with Ubuntu I get the following error:

HTML Code:

Activation of network connection failed

After couple of minutes / sometimes an hour or so, the Wifi suddenly disappears. I need to reboot to have the wifi available again. I'm not aware of any changes to the system, still it happens.

Posting the content of wireless-info from the script from this forum. Any ideas?

Local VNC connections unusable when high traffic on Ubuntu 18.04

Hi,

I'm running vino and using a Win10 client with TightVNC to connect over wifi on local network with encryption off.

The VNC connection works just fine, unless there's download traffic on the server. It doesn't even matter what the download rate is, the VNC is just unusable until downloads are complete, which is very annoying.

Any tips on how to allocate/reserve bandwidth for VNC? Or should I try something else instead of vino? (I did try XRDP but that experience was just horrible...).

[ubuntu] "Network Unclaimed"

The computer is a Dell XPS 8700 desktop with a Windows 10 OS and intel Core i5 processor, about four years old. I just configured it as a dual-boot machine. Unfortunately, the wireless isnt working. lshw -C network yields the following result:

*-network UNCLAIMED
description: Network controller
product: BCM43142 802.11b/g/n
vendor: Broadcom Inc. and subsidiaries
physical id: 0
bus info: pci@0000:04:00.0
version: 01
width: 64 bits
clock: 33MHz
capabilities: cap_list
configuration: latency=0
resources: memory:f7100000-f7107fff

Also, there is no WiFi information in settings menu just as if I do not have a card.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

P.S. I searches, but the info found was relevant to older distributions and upon attempting to apply those fixes, I mostly got that whatever code is needed is no longer downloadable.

P.P.S. Interestingly enough, If I run it only from the USB stick it does not have any problems showing and connecting to WiFi.

Wireless Network Adapter not ON

My school requires that I have a dual boot Ubuntu/Windows machine.

After installation, I was surprised to see that I have no wireless network capabilities. The Windows side works perfectly, the Ubuntu thinks that I have only Ethernet adapter.

I then followed these directions:

https://itsfoss.com/fix-no-wireless-network-ubuntu/

Unfortunately, it tells me that it is applying changes, but the progress bar is not moving, it is stuck at about 10%. I then erased the image, placed a fresh one and tried again, but the result was the same.

I know that Ubuntu knows about the adapter as after query (do not remember off the top of my head how exactly) I got the following:

04:00.0 BCM43142 802.11 b/g/n (rev 01)

What else can I do? I'd rather not try to reinstall Ubuntu, as I had a install crash on another system and this is my working machine. I'd rather fix whatever is wrong with it.

The computer is a Dell XPS 8700 desktop with a Windows 10 OS and intel Core i5 processor, about four years old.

Thanks in advance.

[ubuntu] Slow upload speed

Hi all,

I'm subscribing FTTH 500G up/down speeds.

Network connection:-
Wired connection:
FTTH -> ONT --> Gigabit WiFi Router -> Ubuntu 18.04 PC

On Ubuntu 18.04 PC
$ speedtest-cli --share
Code:

Retrieving speedtest.net configuration...
Testing from Netvigator (42.98.86.7)...
Retrieving speedtest.net server list...
Selecting best server based on ping...

Testing upload speed............................................................

Upload: 4.15 Mbit/s
Share results: http://www.speedtest.net/result/10012825913.png

The upload speed is very slow.

But on Samsung S9Plus Notepad via WiFi
Running SpeedTest Master-Lite
Code:

Ping 3
Download Mbps 326
Upload Mbps 332

Download and Upload speed are almost equal.

It seems that there should be something wrong on Ubuntu 18.04 PC ?

On Terminal
$ sudo dmidecode -t 2
Code:

# dmidecode 3.1

[ubuntu] Permanently Enable Jumbo Frames on 10 Gbe Port

I have two computers that both contain Asus 10 Gbe network cards connected directly to one another via a Cat 8 cable. One is my Windows desktop, the other is my Ubuntu server running 20.04. I am using Ubuntu as a NAS with a ZFS drive array. Enabling jumbo frames on Windows and having it stick has been easy. I have not been able to figure out how to do this in Ubuntu. Issuing the command below on Ubuntu gets me significantly faster transfer speeds in testing. How do I make this change permanent?

Code:

sudo ifconfig enp3s0 mtu 9000
Thanks in advance for any help.

[xubuntu] Smart phone will only connect for calls & audio with Bluetooth

I am using a Dell XPS-13-9300 duel booted with Windows 10 and a Samsung Galaxy S8 smart phone.

Today I was able to send files from the laptop via bluetooth to the smart phone. Later, when I rebooted the laptop I got an unable to send error when attempting to send a .ods file.

I have unpaired the phone, removed the phone as a device from the laptop and tried to reconnect. Both pair but only for calls and audio. I can no longer send files either way.

I cannot send files from the laptop to a Samsung Galaxy Tab A (2018, 10.5)

I am able to send files from the S8 to the Tab A

When I check the laptop device manager it has the S8 registered as a smart phone.

With all devices disconnected (shown in devices) the bluetooth panel icon still shows one active connection.

I have the following packages installed on the laptop:

blueman 2.1.2-1
bluez 5.53-0ubuntu3
libbluetooth3 5.53-0ubuntu3
bluez-cups 5.53-0ubuntu3
pulseaudio-module-bluetooth 1:12.99.1-1ubuntu3.6

The S8:

How do I connect two laptops by wifi through our home router?

Wifi connection works only for a few minutes after reboot

I just installed ubuntu and I'm having a problem connecting to the internet, so basically after booting the system the wifi connection work totally fine but after a minute or so a question mark appears on the wifi icon and I lose the internet connection (it still works fine on other devices) and when I try to connect to different wifi network it gives me an error "connection failed activation of network connection failed" if I turn off the wifi and turn it back on the question mark disappears and I can see the signal bars but there's no internet connection still.
Btw I'm using a fairly old laptop.

Wireless network does not cold start on Mate 20.04

Hello,

Have been using Mate 18.04 for years with no issues. Then I decided for a fresh install of Mate 20.04. Machine is Dell Inspiron 7460.

The wifi network shows two possible behaviors at cold start:
* WiFi is ON, but none of the known networks are logged in (wifi keeps searching);
* WiFi is off.

On both cases, remedy is simple warm restart of the machine. Any known wifi is instantly logged in.

Any advise is appreciated. Thanks.

Intel WiFi Link 5100 Slow Internet, Ubuntu 16.04 (After Upgrade from Ubuntu 14.04)

Hi,

I've been encountering some Wi-Fi slowdown issue after updating my Ubuntu from 14.04 to 16.04.

It works just fine on other devices and operating systems (Android, Windows, Ubuntu 14.04), so I know that the Internet connection is fine.

I've tried changing the setting of gai.conf so that it would prioritize IPV4 vs. IPV6 (by uncommenting the "precedence ::ffff:0:0/96 100" line), and also disabling 11n, but to no avail.

Here is the content of my wireless-info file:

Thanks, and I would appreciate the help.

no more network printer in 20.04

I'm asking here after askubuntu.
My printer (Brother DCP-j752DW) work well with 16.04 (and others), using the box rooter (a freebox-4k from french ISP).
You can see my working configuration on link above.
In short it's:
smb://freebox/Brother%20DCP-J752DW on mafreebox.freebox.fr

Now, on fresh install of xubuntu20.04 (via netboot "mini.iso"), everything is good, quick install, all up-to-date at first boot (great!) excepted no online-printer.:-(
Since my askubuntu post, I did this:
  1. installed python3-smbc (1.0.15.6-2build2) reclaimed by printer (system-config-printer) when I tried to it via "search" button (quite surprised!). Note software-center was proposed to install it but finally can't install it! (I'll like to know why?!) So I used the good old synaptic, my old ubuntu preferred app. Now "search" button works but printer still don't find anything, and said to check firewall.
  2. So, I did
    Code:

    :~$ ufw allow samba
Now search button works (ppfffiuuu) and find the freebox (good), but can't access WORKGROUP, the router share group, and ask a password. BUT there is no password!

So I'm quite disappointed, the problem seem to be on the network side, but asking for a non existing password is out of what I can understand. I suppose direct usb is working, it's pretty sure but I really don't acre of direct usb, I need online printer access.
I still use 16.04 because of this.

Thanks for advices!

Intel Wifi Periodically Drops Many Packets Becoming Unusable

I'm using Ubuntu 20.04 on a ThinkPad with an Intel wifi card. My wifi connection will go through periods of dropping many packets to the point where it becomes unusable. The connection never actually drops and the icon shows good signal strength. Turning off wifi and turning it back on again always fixes the problem, but sometimes only for a minute or two until it happens again. Wired connections work reliably.

Things I've tried:
  • Switching routers
  • Adjusting power saving mode
  • Switching to wicd
  • Setting my iw region
  • Turning off IPv6
  • Reconfiguring all the network packages

...And any other proposed fix I can find. It seems as though the problem has been getting worse over the course of the last year. I have attached the output from the wireless-info script and sample logging from `ping -i 10 -W 10 192.168.0.1` when I'm sitting 2 feet from the router. Thank you!

Problem accessing servers on local network

$

A couple of days ago I wanted to access my Linksys router's admin page on 192.168.1.1 from my (six-month-old) Ubuntu 20.04 laptop. I've done this many times before, no problem, but this time it timed out. So I got out my old Macbook Air, connected immediately and did what needed to be done. Then I noticed that my laptop isn't replicating with Nextcloud any more. Nextcloud is on 192.168.1.144. And I can't connect to the new Presspi instance I've been playing with. All these thing are accessible from my Macbook and from a truly ancient laptop that runs Lubuntu, but not from my new laptop. So what's causing my laptop, which works perfectly in all other ways to refuse to connect to any web service on my local LAN? It appears I can connect to any address but not 192.168.1.*

Your expert advice will be very welcome.

TIA,
Stuart

[kubuntu] Asked for my WiFi password whenever I log in

Hi all,

I am running Kubuntu 20.04.1. Recently, my Kubuntu installation keeps on asking me to enter my Wifi password whenever I log in.

I disabled the KDE Wallet, but it still asks me for the (Wifi) password via KDE Daemon. So I decided to enable it again as I heard it's important.

Anyone please help with this?

[ubuntu] How do I modify a shared folder created in Nautilus?

I'm running Ubuntu 20.04.

I created a folder, which I made public (chmod a+rwx), and shared it through Nautilus as a public folder open to all. This is to share with other Ubuntu machines on the local network.

I wish to modify the name of the share. However, I can't find out how to do that. The share isn't listed in /etc/samba/smb.conf, and I can't find a place in Nautilus to make the change. It would also be interesting to find out how to stop sharing the folder if I need to sometime in the future.

How can I modify or delete the share?

[ubuntu] Cannot download wi-fi adapter driver in 20.04

I purchased this Cudy WU-1300 Wi-Fi Adapter: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I tried using the CD it came with to download the driver, but nothing happened automatically and any of the files I tried to run did nothing or had an error. I also tried downloading the driver (via USB from another computer since I have no internet on my new PC) and the same thing happened. The Cudy website's manual has download instructions for 18.04/19.10. Is there something I can do to make this work on 20.04? Thank you for any help.
