[ubuntu] Joining and Logging into Windows Domains

Hello, i'm a newbie on Ubuntu and I think that its a great solution for my company. We have a windows server with Active Directory, and I want to join some Ubuntu machines to the windows domain.

I heard about Likewise but seems it went off.

Any good how-to or suggestions on how can I join and login ubuntu pc's to a windows domain?

15.04 - Wifi works but top bar icon shows constantly searching

Hi,
this issue already happened in the 14.10 version... but I decided to post the bug after I checked it persisted in the new version.

Does anyone know what can be happening? Internet works fine but the icon is doing the animation like it is searching a new network....

[other] Can't change WiFi MAC address after installing the 8192cu driver

Hi everyone,
I'm using Ubuntu 14.04.02 64 Bits LTS and recently, I bought a TP-Link TL-WN822N v3.0 using a Realtek 8192 chipset, I needed to install the 8192cu Driver, and I followed the instructions on this link: https://github.com/pvaret/rtl8192cu-fixes and it worked fine, but my problem is that I can't change the mac address of my WiFi Card neither using macchanger or by manually typing:

sudo ifconfig wlan0 down
sudo ifconfig wlan0 hw ether xx:xx:xx:xx:xx:xx
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up

I've also tried to edit the connection by adding a cloned mac address but it wouldn't work, I'm really stuck with this, I hope that someone will help me to get it work.

Netgear N600--Cannot Connect to Wireless

Howdy All,

I'm pretty new to to Ubuntu, and I'm having trouble with my Netgear N600 USB Wireless dongle. I'm running a fresh build of Ubuntu 14.04 with system updates. After installing the device drivers using ndiswrapper, I was able to see the wireless network, but I cannot connect. The network is unencrypted right now, but will eventually be WPA/WPA2. I know that this may never work since the dongle runs Broadcom drivers, but I would really appreciate your help!

since the kernel upgrade to 4.0.1, because I had a version 3.1x, when
you update the driver rtl8192eu not work for me, I get the following
error

I tried to go back to the kernel version 3.1x but the problem persists

when compiling the 4.0.1 kernel drivers looking in the menuconfig
meeting almost every family realtek drivers 8192ex, 8192eu least, is

[SOLVED] BCM4313 unclaimed after upgrade to 15.04

BCM4313 [14e4:4727] (rev 01) wireless adapter (which was working under 14.10) shows as "unclaimed" in 15.04 under both systemd and upstart boots.

Wireless-info script output and /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf attached.

I’m new to Ubuntu and today I’ve decided to install Ubuntu 14.04 LTS onto my PC. But I’m having trouble connecting to the internet via my home network. I’ve managed to get my Netgear wireless adaptor (model: N-300 WNA3100) to work on Ubuntu (thanks to: http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2221251) but when I try to connect to my home wifi, I repeatedly get “Authentication required by Wi-Fi network” and it asks for the password again and again without connecting. I thought it might be my wireless adaptor, but I can connect fine via my iPhone (when it’s used as a hotspot) and via another Wi-Fi network.


My Wi-fi settings:
Mode: Infrastructure
Wi-Fi security: WPA & WPA2 Personal


I’ve had a look around on the internet for similar problems but it doesn’t seem to work. Does anybody know how to solve this issue?


P.S: I’ve tried resetting the router and turning off and on my PC a couple of times. Still get this problem.

EDIT: I forgot to mention that the Netgear adapter can connect to my home wifi perfectly fine from the same PC when I'm running Windows.

Hi all.

Not quite sure where to post this / what exactly to title it
basically I have several machines , 2 laptops / netbook / desktop / and then a Linux server and a raspberry pi

I'd like to create a scenario whereby Windows user dirs are actually stored on the server - and I can login to any windows machine using the same user/pass (stored on the server ) and it loads the dir off the server

From what I've read NFS and Samba as a PDC? I don't need openLDAP or Kerberos for this?

Hi all
I am trying to run hostapd based wireless hotspot from my linux laptop. I have been using this particular scheme since the past 3 years that I have owned this machine. However, after a recent re-installation of Ubuntu 14.04, I found this error cropping up when I try to add iptable rules for redirection:

I have tried to modprobe the module iptable_nat and that hasn't resolved the issue either.

It seems to me that kernel 3.13 aimed to replace iptables with something called nftables. Is it the case that ubuntu is amidst that transition but hasn't completed it?

Hello,

I am new to ubuntu and i would require some help in order to set a system that i need.My hardware is the odroid xu3 board , huawei e1750 gsm modem and the pixhawk autopilot board.The basic idea is to forward all the information from the pixhawk to a the internet to a specific ip through the gsm modem.On the other side a software will connect to that ip in order to retrieve these information.The pixahawk is connected to the odroid by usb .The operating system is the lubuntu 14.04.My Huawei modem comes assigned with an ip.I have managed to make the modem work with the ubuntu thus i have full connection to the internet.

As i mentioned i want to forward all the information form the pixhawk to the internet.I believe that i need to set some kind of server using the public ip provided my provider but im not sure how can i achieve that.So what im trying to find is how can i create this server that all the information from pixhawk will be forward too.

Im really confused of how this communication can be established.

The further that i reached till now is to find in what prot is my device connected by using : dmesg grep | tty
and the use the command mavproxy.py --master=/dev/ttyACM0 --baudrate 57600 --out IPADDRESS:14550 in order to forward these.

How can i find my ip adress that the info will be sent to and how can i make sure that connection is established.

Any kind of help or idea will be really usefull.

Joining Mate 15.04 to Windows 2008 AD. Several errors

My first question if PBIS Open is the preferred method of joining Ubuntu to a Windows Domain they how come it never seems to install clean??? That is something that puzzles me. I had to do some work but I finally got the domainjoin-gui command to come up... but when I enter in the Administratior password I get the following error. The problem is I cannot seem to find anything about this error anywhere, so I thought I would come to the developers to see if they know. Here is the error:::

NIC configuration Question

Hi,

First of all I am new to working with ubuntu and would like to say I am having great fun playing around with it. I am currently wanting to setup a Radius server, MySql with coovachilli on the same server and have some network pre-requisites I need to meet before I can proceed. Namely the following:

2 NICs eth0 connected to Internet on either static or dhcp, eth1 connect to clients with no IP address

Question is how do I configure the network in this manner, also I do not have eth1 when I check ipconfig I have the following:

So I presume the fact I have a wlan0 means I cannot do this setup or? It seems I need two physical network cards and the wlan does not count?

Use Internal DNS first, then External DNS

14.04 install, eth0 is setup to use DHCP and the eth1 is a static configuration. I want name resolution to go against an internal DNS server first, then to the external DNS servers supplied as part of DHCP on eth0. I know /etc/resolv.conf has the name servers and the order is important. However, /etc/resolv.conf gets overwritten each time resolvconf is called. How can I specify my internal DNS server as the first to search, if name is not found move on to the external DNS servers. Probably also need to reduce the timeout when a DNS call is made so that true external names don't incur a performance hit just because we searched internal DNS first.

Cannot connect to WPA/WPA2 wireless with Dell Inspiron running Ubuntu 15.04

Hey all,
I've been looking around, but can't seem to find an answer to this question. I recently updated to 15.04 from 14.04 LTS and everything works fine, except that I suddenly cannot connect to certain WiFi networks (I think they are specifically WPA/WPA2 networks). Other networks, like my university network (which isn't password protected) seem to work fine, and I have access to ethernet/wired connections. Has anybody been able to fix this issue or can somebody get me in the right direction?

Hi, can someone please help me get wireless working in Ubuntu on my Alienware 15 laptop?

I have been trying to get this working, every time i get something working it either
stops or something else wont work. The Alienware 15 doesn't come with an Optical Drive, I struggled getting all the
ndiswrapper drivers installed.

I can use my NWA3100 USB adapter for a couple minutes then it stops sending and receiving packets. I really want to use Linux and I can't use Ethernet conveniently. My laptop that I had Ubuntu on actually worked no problems what so ever and it got stolen. I have tried so many different things and Nothing seems
to help.

Broadcom BCM4306 not working on Ubuntu 14.04

I'm at a loss here, hoping someone can help. I have an old Dell Inspiron 5100 with a Broadcom BCM4306 wireless chipset, which is not working. Clicking on the wireless icon at the top shows "No network devices available." Out put for lshw -c network shows the device, and for "configuration" it says "driver=b43-pci-bridge latency=32" (sorry for no copy-paste of output, the wired isn't working either, so I can't post from the same machine).

Output of lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net is "Kernel driver in use: b43-pci-bridge. This device has an ID of [14e4:4320]. So as far as I can tell from posts online, that is the correct driver. However, ifconfig -a shows no wlan0 entry, so I'm guessing that has something to do with it. What am I missing here?

Please remember, I don't have internet on the machine in question, so posting output is difficult, and I'll have to copy installation packages over manually. I'm not very familiar with Linux, so step-by-step commands will be needed.

[ubuntu] Ubuntu pc cannot see any pc in a windows workgroup

Hello,

I have started switching computers from xp to linux mint and ubuntu but i havent managed to view any computers from my workgroup.

All xp computers belong to a workgroup named workgroup and i started adding a couple of linux ones.

But when i go to network through nautilus i can see the icon workgroup but when i try to access it it is either blank or it crashes and the window closes straight away.

I have installed samba and in smdb.conf workgroup = workgroup by default anyway.. it is very strange and i ve been struggling with this matter for quite some days...

So please HELP !!!!!
