What I have done:

[x] change the settings for the wireless connection in Network Manager for IPv6 to ignore
[x] Set the country code
[x] wifi router - changed the encryption to WPA2 only

I am getting between 15-20 mbps with this dongle, as compared to 3-4x higher with dongle attached to a windows pc.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Ken

Hi there, For the past few days I have been trying to get my AC 7260 to work with Ubuntu. And I keep failing every time. that is until I found a script that you guys said would help determine my problem. So I have taken the liberty of running that script on Ubuntu 16.04 and displaying the results here.
Code:

[ubuntu] Intel® Pentium(R) CPU B970 @ 2.30GHz × 2 slow internet

Since upgrading to Ubuntu 16.04 my internet connection speeds seem to be very slow at times. I never encountered this problem with 14.04. I am running 16,04, 64 bit with 8 Gb ram. This is my wireless tar.gz which I have looked at, but might as well have tried to split the atom. I am hoping that someone can tell me where my problem lies. Oh, I'm using chrome as my browser, but firefox encounters the same problems as in many forums are very slow to load or refresh pages.

[SOLVED] Trying to install server 14.04 with wireless only

I am repurposing an old laptop as a VM server on my home network and here is the issue.

Install allows selection of wlan0 for "main" network connection during install, but fails to install any drivers for it, so I'm stuck after the initial install with absolutely no way to continue. I simply don't have an eth0 available right now.

Wifi router is Intel 3945ABG

How do I select restricted/third-party/etc... drivers in a command line only installation?

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 16.04 unable to use wireless

I updated my Ubuntu 14.04 to 16.04 on my Dell Latitude E6420. Wireless function at 14.04 as does my Windows 7 system. wireless is turned on and Networking recognizes my Modem wireless as excellent signal strength. i enter my password and connect and nothing happens. i suspect i need a driver and have found multiple such problems with multiple answers so am confused. in "additional drivers" i find only "using processor microcode firmware for INTEL CPU. nothing about a wireless driver. i found a thread "how to install a driver for Broadcom series of PCI wireless cards". This sounds like what i need so i followed the instructions. first issuer LSPCI -nn -d 14e4: command to determine which driver i need. the command displays nothing and returns to the prompt?? it is not connected to the internet via ethernet. i hope i explained my situation and would appreciate any help thanks. ken

[ubuntu] No network if HDMI monitor is not connected?

$

I have bought PCG02U Ubuntu Stick PC. It is a nice and cheap device with 64-bit Intel By Trail processor (Atom) and 2 GB RAM. Everything is working fine, but I noticed that if I do not connect monitor via HDMI (actually, I am using HDMI-to-VGA adapter) before booting, device does not connect to a network. Device has Wifi and ethernet connection.

However, if monitor is connected and switched of (or on), device boots normally and network comes up.

Any idea what could be the problem?

For me, it would be great if I would be able to boot the device without monitor connected, because then I can ssh to a device (directly or via OpenVPN). But without monitor connected this is not possible.

I also tried to connect HDMI-to-VGA adapter, but device still won't get the network connection...

XPS13: Wi-fi disconnects after waking up from 'suspend'

$

OS: Ubuntu 16.04 Intel64-bit
Laptop: Dell XPS-13-9343

When I wake up the computer from 'suspend', the wi-fi connection does not come up, and 'enable networking' becomes unticked of its own accord but 'enable wi-fi' does not appear when I right click on the wi-fi applet on the top panel/menubar. I have to restart the computer and the wi-fi connection comes up.

Any solutions will be gratefully acknowledged; however I have no expertise in locating or amending the system files.

[ubuntu] 16.04 Turning Off Bluetooth Connection to Keyboard

$

I have a Lenovo Bluetooth keyboard on a home made machine. Bluetooth seems to work fine except that after a few hours the Gnome Bluetooth app turns off the connection to the keyboard. If i connect a USB keyboard and turn the connection back on in the notification GUI, everything is fine. There is no way that I have found to turn this (I assume power saving) feature off.

If anyone has any ideas, please advise.

Snort installation error

During Snort installation on a new Ubuntu 16.04 virtual server, the installer asks "Address range for local network?" with default of 192.168.0.0/16, which I accept.

After installing several packages, the following error is displayed. The default IP address may need to be changed to something else but I'm not sure. I tried pinging the server's broadcast IP address but that failed. Can someone help me with troubleshooting this Snort installation error?

Setting up libdaq2 (2.0.4-3) ...
Setting up snort (2.9.7.0-5) ...
Job for snort.service failed because the control process exited with error code. See "systemctl status snort.service" and "journalctl -xe" for details.

Windows to Ubuntu networking - IPv6 - Can't connect to web server using etc/hosts

My setup is:

Windows 10 OS
Ubuntu Virtual Instance - VirtualBox
Bridged ethernet device for VirtualBox

I tend to move around from various coffee shops and libraries to get my work done (too many distractions at home, lol).

One of places I go to is using specifically IPv6 for LAN DHCP.

I am having some trouble connecting to my virtualbox Ubuntu server under a specified hostname in the windows hosts file for this IP.

I AM ABLE to connect to the server in the web browser (port 80), sftp (port 22) and ssh using JUST the IPv6 address. My problem is that I need to assign a hostname for the IPv6 address because of an issue I'm having with Notepad++ for web development (Notepad++ programmatically tries to create a working cache directory using the username@hostname/ipaddress. By connecting to the server with just the IPv6 address, Notepad++ tries to create a cache directory using illegal directory characters that are in the IPv6 string). I can't seem to find a way to override this setting for each profile/connection; there is however a global setting that I can edit. But, this is not preferred as I normally connect to LANs that assign IPv4, and it will be very annoying having to change that global each time I decide to connect to a different LAN. I figured this should be a very simple fix: Add the IP to the Windows host file, and assign a domain (ie localipv6.com), however I was completely wrong. Maybe I'm missing something simple?

This may be more of a Windows question, so I apologize if this is in the wrong section.

Thanks.

EDIT: Ok, I've managed to solve the issue without using the host file. I didn't realize that you can set up a "cache file map" in Notepad ++ that allows you to set the directory, per profile.

[ubuntu] IPV6: Browser goes to parked domains for no reason

Hi,

I have an IPV6-enabled Ubuntu desktop system.

I've noticed that frequently when I go to some website (including ubuntu forums) sometimes I get one of those generic domain parking websites. A few minutes later I get the real site again. Incredibly irritating.

It seems to me that this only happens to sites which do not have an IPV6 address.

I'm curious if anyone else gets this, or knows how to fix it.

I'm getting my IPV6 automatically through my ISP. It's not a tunnel through an IPV4 network.

Thanks.

[ubuntu] Route certain traffic to second NIC with unclear gateway

There are two Ubuntu Desktop 15.10 machines. Both run on virtual machines based on VmWare Fusion.
Each of these two virt. machines uses a network card of Fusion's NAT type.
The network traffic generated by regular work goes to LAN and Internet through such card and all are happy - users and administrator.

Nowadays one change in setup is sough - it is about downloading package updates / do installation of new packages through
a proxy - apt-cacher-ng is going to play the proxy role and is going to be installed and operate on one of these two virt. machines.
Whole package management traffic (update/installation/...) should run through apt-cacher-ng, inclusively the OS' hosting apt-cacher-ng.
In further future more clients will join (some of them are also virt. machines on same physical host but
possibly housed by VirtualBox, others are physical clients emerging in same physical LAN the physical host of mentioned
2 virt. machines is present in). But now let's limit this discussion to these two virt. machines mentioned in the beginnning.

Problem: apt-get update on client virt. machine can't connect to apt-cacher-ng -- it fails in the DNS dialog.
Clients apt-get is configured such a way to speak to apt-cacher on another virt. machine instead of public repository
Code:

cat /etc/apt/apt.conf.d/01proxy
Acquire::http::Proxy "http://ip6-<servers-ipv6-address>:3142";

For some reason client's apt-get treats the server's ip set in apt-get config directory/file as domain name
- according to wireshark - instead of treating it as ip address. DNS resolution fails cause local DNS does not know such domain.
`apt-get` should treat this entry as ip address instead.

What is the proper format of ipv6-address (nic number and port number included) for apt-get configuration Acquire::http::Proxy?
