WiFi not working after making hotspot

$

Hi, I have installed ubuntu 16.04 LTS 32-bit on my netbook. I have set up hotspot for my ip cameras, but when I wanted to update ubuntu and connect to another wifi I was unable to do it. So I have deleted the hotspot, but this make it even worse, because now the WiFi card cannot find any wifi network + wired (LAN) have stopped working aswell.
Also before making that hotspot, WiFi was working just fine.
PLUS, the netbook is unbelievably slow right from installation of ubuntu.

[ubuntu] My 18.04 system is leaking DNS queries when using VPN. How to resolve?

$

I recently installed Ubuntu 18.04. I want to ensure that my DNS requests use my VPN DNS rather than my ISP DNS.

In 16.04, preventing DNS leakage was easy: just disable the dnsmasq entry in /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf.

However, in 18.04, there is no dnsmasq entry in the above file.

resolv.conf just shows: nameserver 127.0.0.53 irrespective of whether I am using the VPN. It should show the IP of the VPN DNS servers.

Does anyone know how to prevent DNS leakage in 18.04 (whether or not dnsmasq is the issue)? Thanks.

[ubuntu] Bluetooth keeps connecting and immediately disconnecting after upgrade to 18.04

After I upgraded to 18.04 a few days ago, I've found that there's an issue with Bluetooth. When I try to use my Bose wireless headphones to listen to something on my Ubuntu laptop, I keep hearing the message, "[network name] connected", then immediately, "[network name] disconnected" without my having done anything to disconnect the headphones. The connection isn't being lost--if I did, I'd hear, "[network name] lost." If I go into my settings, I see that Bluetooth is turned on, but the network is disconnected.

Now, if I restart my laptop, the connection works just fine. The problem seems to occur only when I close the lid and put the laptop to sleep, then wake the laptop from sleep mode. I've tried re-pairing the headphones with the laptop, and that only works until I put the laptop in sleep and then wake it.

The headphones worked just fine before the upgrade, and there's been no recent update to the Bose firmware, so I am pretty sure this problem is caused by the upgrade.

Suggestions on how to resolve it? I don't want to have to restart my laptop all the time just to listen to music.

[ubuntu] Slow Network Speeds

$

I can only get up to 900 kBps file copies between my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS computer and either my Ubuntu 18.04 LTS server or a Windows 10 Dell laptop when I copy through the Files utility using Samba. However, when I copy from my Ubuntu computer to my laptop through Windows File Manager, I get up to 100 MBps.

I nearly returned my new router because I thought the gigabit ports weren't up to speed since 900 kBps is not even 10 Mbps and I can back up to my external drive via USB 2 ports in minutes, where it was taking days to backup to my server (over an hour just to copy 1 GB)!
So something is very wrong with Ubuntu's networking. I plugged both my Ubuntu computer and the Windows laptop directly into the router with Cat5e cables and disconnected my cable modem to eliminate any other interferences in my network.

[gnome] Nautilus can't browse samba network hosts

Is it a gnome problem after upgrade to samba 4.7?
If I do
Code:

killall gvfsd-smb-browse && GVFS_DEBUG=1 /usr/lib/gvfs/gvfsd-smb-browse

and click Windows Network in Nautilus, I can see one
"send_reply(0x55c9be346150), failed=1 (Operation not supported by the processing engine)" message which,I think, is the culprit behind not working gnome samba browser - gvfsd-smb-browse. SO, clearly something is not working as it should.
Code:

16.04 can, but 17.10 can't

So recently I ran into this problem with 17.10 where I keep running into an error on Firefox saying that the server is down. Now before you ask me if I'm connected, the answer is yes, otherwise I would not have access to the internet on 16.04. This error on 17.10 is probably keeping me from upgrading to Bionic Beaver, and frankly I'm not willing to go nuclear on my new monitor over this.

Why Two Icons for same computer in Files Browse Network

When looking at the LAN using browse network in the Files (aka nautilus) sidebar on old computer running ubuntu 16.04, I get two separate icons for my new Ubuntu 18.04 computer. For one icon, the properties indicate smb://hostname.local/ and the properties for the other indicate smb://hostname/. The one for hostname.local goes away if I turn off the avahi-daemon on the 18.04 machine. But, I want to run both avahi-daemon and use samba to share files from my 18.04 public directory for both my linux computer and windows 10 computer. Looking for samba solution to eliminate the superfluous icon.

[ubuntu] WI-FI keeps dropping for BROADCOM BCM43142 wireless card on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

My WI-FI keeps dropping every 2minutes and I have to reconnect manually each time.I tried the solution given at https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2214110 .I went through the thread and it looks like I already have the correct driver (bcmwl-kernel-source) for my pci.id.Someone then suggested I use another driver which I installed using the code
Code:

sudo apt-get install linux-headers-$(uname -r) build-essential dkms
wget http://ubuntu-master.mirror.tudos.de/ubuntu/pool/multiverse/b/broadcom-sta/broadcom-sta-dkms_6.30.223.271-5_all.deb
sudo dpkg -i broadcom-sta-dkms_6.30.223.271-5_all.deb
sudo apt-get remove --purge bcmwl-kernel-source
echo "blacklist b43" | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

and the problem still persist.Someone also suggested I set my ipv6 to ignored. It made the network manager to always remain in connected state although the WI-FI had dropped and I still have to reconnect manually every 2 minutes or so.I also added a script to /etc/NetworkManager/dispatcher.d so that I don't have to reconnect manually everytime but it also doesn't work:
Code:

#!/bin/bash

if [ "$CONNECTION_UUID" = " *********" ]; then
    if [ "$2" = "down" ]; then
        sleep 10
        nmcli con up uuid $CONNECTION_UUID

OpenVPN Help

I am trying to VPN into my network from my phone. When I try to connect to my VPN server, it says "server poll timeout, trying next remote entry...". Doing a tcpdump on my external interface for 1194 traffic, I am not seeing any. I can not also telnet from my server to my IP via port 1194. Does it matter if my phone is on my home wi-fi network while trying to vpn into the external network IP? Also, I've added these IPtables rules to my firewall: https://arashmilani.com/post?id=53.

ddns dhcp update of bind : client timeout / server takes to long

$

have dhcp and bind setup so dhcp pushes hostname records to bind based on the hostname requested by the client.

updates work ok and seem to take place in the same second (based on log files) however the client sometimes times out (seen by DHCPDISCOVER 2 or more times on the client [example from ifdown eth0; ifup eth0) also seen by browser and video stream play back for a regular renewal hanging/pausing.

Thoughts for resolving this by client / server configs?

[ubuntu] Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 WiFi very slow TX

$

I have a Dell Laptop 15 5570 with a Qualcomm Atheros QCA9377 802.11ac wifi interface running Ubuntu 18.04.

My access point is a Ubiquiti UAP-AC-LR.

The RX speed as measured by iperf3 and a large file transfer with Filezilla is good at 300Mbps but the TX speed is very slow, around 10Mbps.

A Win10 tablet at the same location gets RX of 250Mbps and TX of 180Mbps, so reasonable.

Any suggestions on how to improve this would be very much appreciated. I have searched for a solution without success. I have updated, disabled powersave and IPV6 without any change.

Good day, i have a HP 17-ak026nc notebook. I need to work with Ubuntu 16.04 LTS or 18.04 LTS. The problem is that when i connect to the Internet via a LAN cable or WiFi, the operating system (Ubuntu 16 and 18) freezes and i have to shut down the notebook. And it happens even when installing Ubuntu. I have a connected LAN cable - the installer is freezing. Without an Internet connection - everything works. Thanks in advance for the answers.

BitTorrent clients not working (even Transmission)

I have not been able to use my laptop to download torrent since I started using Ubuntu. Transmission always returns error connection failed or could not connect to tracker. I've tried other BitTorrent clients too. I tried Vuse, Tixati. Deludge doesn't connect at all. I am sure it is not from the ISP because I download torrents on windows before porting to Ubuntu. I use Ubuntu 18

PCI , USB WiFi neither is turning on. PCI Wi-Fi Device: RT3290 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe, USB WiFi Device: TP-LINK TL-WN722N (Device ID: 0cf3:9271 Atheros Communications, Inc. AR9271 802.11n)
Screenshot from 2018-06-11 18-13-48.jpg Like in the picture Clicking on Turn On does not do anything. I've also tried in the Wi-Fi settings.
Code:

# rfkill list all
0: phy0: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: yes
1: phy1: Wireless LAN
    Soft blocked: no
    Hard blocked: no

rfkill shows USB wifi is not blocked.

the green light on the USB Wi-Fi lights up but nothing else happens.
ath9k_htc Firmwire is installed.
I've also tried installing WICD while removing the network-manager, but it didn't work. But on ubuntu 16.04, using WICD I could run the USB Wi-Fi.
