[ubuntu] How to make my Smart TV get internet?

$

Hello All

I bought Smart TV recently and installed it under my NAS(with Ubuntu 18.04).
NAS get private IP from router(sorry for missing router in the attached picture, Router is between ISP modem and switch)
NAS has two wired network interfaces , one is eth0(WAN from switch) and another is eth1(To Smart TV)
I'd like to make my Smart TV have different IP but in same Network with NAS(To use DNLA fucntion from other device)

I did lots of try with brctl(bridge-utill) but no success and already messed up much to explain what I tried

So, I make /etc/network/interfaces back to
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

I already googled during last 3 days but no clear help from them.
Can you anyone help me on this matter?

[ubuntu_mate] Problem with Elekele AC1200 Dual band USB 3.0 adapter

Hello all,
I am using ubuntu mate 18.04(kernel 4.15.02-42 generic)(64 bit AMD Ryzen machine). I bought an Elekele AC1200 USB 3.0 adapter. Googling revealed that its a RTL88x2bu chipset. I downloaded and build/installed this driver https://github.com/FomalhautWeisszwerg/rtl8822bu.git . Note that I have also tried other drivers.
All of them get this device working. But every time I try to connect to a hotspot, it repeatedly asks for password and never manages to connect. The adapter works fine in windows 10.
Is anyone using this device on ubuntu? Please help.

Thanks in advance.

GUFW rules don't override general settings when going with the whitelisting approach

$

Hello, fiends!

I am trying to barr my computer from the internet when I play my steam games so they don't phone back home, so I can make my little statement about consent. But I want my browser to have online access so I can listen to music.

I have the GUFW Firewall. The default general settings are -Incoming: Deny, -Outgoing: Allow.

When I click on the report after a fresh boot, I get exactly 30 entries - ports: 111, 123, 137, 138, 139, 3***** for rpc.statd, 445 simbd, 5***** for avahi-daemon and rpc statd, 631 for cups-browsed, 677 rpcbind, and 68 dhclient
I imagine all these are normal things, though, reading about some, maybe I should also block them, but I'm afraid to brick something.

Anyway, I booted up Steam, and two entries showed up as 27036 ports. Very nice. So I clicked on them and made a rule- Allow: out, just like the general rule for outgoing is allow, and incoming is deny.
So I put the outgoing default setting to Deny, so both are deny, and I hoped my new rule for steam that says Allowut, would serve as a way of whitelisting specific programs, and overriding the general rule, like it is supposed to work for blacklisting, but it doesn't work!

What should I do? I can't be chasing every gme around, and the whitelisting approach is the easiest way. I read on another forum that a guy managed to only allow ports for browsers and his thunderbird, and that everything works nice. I have to type a password every time I open GUFW, so I kow it's sudo, and I should theoretically be able to do everything he did with the graphical interface.

What should I do? Am I doing something wrong? My theory was to make a profile filled with those 30 ports (or less if I can identify the useless ones) and steam, and have it on when I play games, so their proprietary software can't ring home to servers and share my data. I only allow steam to steal it and share it, but I won't be spied upon without express consent.

Thanks!

Intel 7265: "No device available", Ubuntu Mate 18.04

Hello Everyone,

I have Dell Inspiron 13-7348 with Intel 7265 wifi chip. Few days ago I've installed Ubuntu 18.04 and everything seemed fine until today. After this booting this morning I was able to launch browser and view home page, then network connection stopped working. There was no disconnection alert, wifi just froze and reconnecting failed due to "Device not ready" message. Tried rebooting, which helped at first, but then again after few minutes same thing happened. Next reboot was brought even worse effects, nm-applet says that "No device is available" from the start, and now rebooting doesn't change anything. Here's wireless-info.txt content:

over my years as a not very skilled Ubuntu user, one of the greatest challenges (and disappointments) I've found to Ubuntu has been how difficult it is to achieve the simple task of being able to see files on Ubuntu System A from Ubuntu System B, both my systems.
I've never been able to make networking and file sharing work.

having just done refresh installs of 18.04 on a desktop and a laptop, I thought now would be the perfect time to try again.

Step 1 appears to be installing (and I presume running) Samba.

From the Software Center I seem to have "installed" Sambe. but when I click on Launch, nothing seems to happen. Am I supposed to see something?

guidance anyone?

Or, if I am going down the wrong path to happy home file sharing, can you redirect me to a simpler approach?

Hello and thanks in advance!

I am trying to configure Samba server on Ubuntu Server 16.04.5 (32 bit) for Windows 10 machines to access without passwords on local network

I followed this tutorial: https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/servergu...server.html.en

Then I went through other networking tuts

Instead of accessing the File Share via Samba when I enter the server ip I get Apache serving me a default web page

I don't know what wires are crossed here, please advise

Efficient way to switch connection to wifi when it is available

$

I am implementing a network application running Ubuntu in a computer which has three network connections, Ethernet, Wifi and 3G, Ethernet takes the highest connection priority if it is available, the next is the WiFi and the next is the 3G, it is similar in mobile phone when WiFi is available, switch from 3G to Wifi immediately, does anyone know how it is implemented in mobile phone? What is the efficient and reliable way to have a smooth transition from different network connection without affecting TCP applications?

[SOLVED] Setting up NFS server

Still new to ubuntu, but have so far managed to get by using guides and existing forum posts. This time I'm stuck....

ran sudo apt-get install nfs-kernel-server

Edited /etc/exports to:
# /etc/exports: the access control list for filesystems which may be exported
# to NFS clients. See exports(5).
# /tank/Movies 192.168.1.143(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,no_root_squ ash)
# /tank/TVSeries 192.168.1.143(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,no_root_squ ash)
# /home 192.168.1.143(rw,sync,no_subtree_check,no_root_squ ash)

Got an the following error when saving:
** (gedit:19160): Warning **: 10:26:08:958: Set document metadata failed: Setting attribute metadata::gedit-spell-language not supported

Read in another forum post that this error could just be ignored??

Ran sudo systemctl restart nfs-kernel-server

Couldn't find anything on the client (Vero 4k+), si I tried running sudo exportfs -a on the server, but didn't get any output...

Tried /etc/init.d/nfs-kernel-server and received:

So as far as I can see, NFS should be running... Don't get why it doesn't seem to be exporting anything... Something wrong with the /etc/exports file possibly?

I installed a ubuntu server 18.04 machine and i'm confused about the network configuration with netplan.
Netplan by itself seems pretty simple, i'm liking it so far. The network is up and running with an ethernet NIC even though i have no network daemons.

The real puzzle is that i'm about to configure a wireless NIC, and according to netplan's manual i will need to set up a network daemon as a renderer for the device. But again, i don't believe i have a single network daemon.

Novice Ubuntu user here, I have installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS and I'm having issues with the connection. I have issues connecting to my university WiFi. The USB adapter (DLink - DWA131) works fine with Windows 10, but it's buggy with Ubuntu 18.04 LTS. The network adapter in my laptop is Intel Wireless-N 7260, and it's already buggy before I even install Ubuntu. I am currently connected via Bluetooth tethering, and it's also quite buggy as I get disconnected randomly when my phone is less than 1 meters away.

Here's my pastebin:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/BZthFpgy4Z/

lsusb gave me this:

Code:

I have also tried:
sudo apt update
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:hanipouspilot/rtlwifi

It turns out that none of the solutions above worked. May someone suggest a solution that could fix the WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity issues? Thank you.

However, after making the whole manual, the external network card still does not work.

I was also interested in the mention in readme attached to the official drivers

[ubuntu] 17.10 wifi gets Internet, but LAN is unreachable

I have a problem with wifi after upgrade to 17.10. I have three computers: A, B, and C that are connected to
a router. A and B are Fedora, C is Ubuntu 17.10. C (Ubuntu) starts up wifi. It gets IP 192.168.10.100,
it sees Internet, I can browse internet. Though, the router tells that host C (Ubunutu) has IP 192.168.1.27 .
Hosts A gets 192.168.1.10. A and B cannot reach C: they cannot establish connection to neither 192.168.10.100,
nor 192.168.1.27. Vice versus: host C (ubuntu) does not see LAN under 192.168.1.x, does not see A,
does not see network printer. At the same time, when I plug Ethernet connected to the router to host C,
it gets IP 192.168.1.28 and then host C sees the LAN and vice versus. Thus, this is not a firewall issue.

The problem is that wifi interface (wlo1 in my case) gets 192.168.10.x subnetwork that is isolated
from the rest of the LAN (192.168.1.x). Wired interface (eno1) does not have this problem.
This is a new behaviour in Ubuntu 17.10. I did not have this problem in earlier Ubunutu. I tried
to tweak /etc/dhcp/dhclient.conf, but this did not help.

How to fix that bug? How to make wifi to be connect to 192.168.1.x network? How to make
host C (ubuntu) that got IP via dhclient visible to the local network and vice versus? Any clues?

[lubuntu] How to set up functional IrDa transfer?

Hi,
I have an 9710:7780 MosChip Semiconductor MCS7780 4Mbps Fast USB IrDA Adapter, which if fully functional under 14.04 and 16.04 (with irda-utils and ircp-tray). After running 18.04, there is no power to run it. I followed this guide https://help.ubuntu.com/community/IrdaHowto but after running ircp-tray I am not able to make any data transfer. USB dongle "sees" the phone, but every data transfer attempt fails. Sometimes I am able to make ping
Code:

sudo irdaping 0x000005be
IrDA ping (0x000005be on irda0): 32 bytes
32 bytes from 0x000005be: irda_seq=0 time=1044.01 ms.
32 bytes from 0x000005be: irda_seq=1 time=1043.90 ms.
32 bytes from 0x000005be: irda_seq=2 time=1044.00 ms.
32 bytes from 0x000005be: irda_seq=3 time=1043.90 ms.
32 bytes from 0x000005be: irda_seq=4 time=1044.22 ms.

Is here any way, how I can run this dongle under 18.04 for data tranferr?
