Network drops on LAN

$

Dear,

From the last couples weeks i got dropping lan connections;
Some specs:

18.04.1 LTS x64
lspci | egrep -i --color 'network|ethernet'
03:00.0 Ethernet controller: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8111/8168/8411 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller (rev 06)

I dont know why this is, all other netwerk devices in lan +-/ 20 devices are not having this issue.

I need to disconnect lan and reconnect to get it working again.
As im a noob on linux, can someone tell me where to start? Where to find logs? I already enter a static ip, but thats not solving it.

Thank you much

[lubuntu] MT7601U Wireless Adapter issue

I am using Lubuntu 18.04 LTS virtual machine.

I have the following USB wireless adapters.

$ lsusb

Bus 001 Device 006: ID 148f:5370 Ralink Technology, Corp. RT5370 Wireless Adapter
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 148f:7601 Ralink Technology, Corp. MT7601U Wireless Adapter

The first one "RT5370 Wireless Adapter" works perfectly with Lubuntu and there are no issues at all.
But the second one "MT7601U Wireless Adapter" works only 50-50% of the time (if successful, wifi connectivity will have no issues until it is unplugged from the system, after that, if connected the following problem MAY occur (not always) :

In some cases, the second one "MT7601U Wireless Adapter" cannot detect any networks nor connect to my router even though lsusb shows that it is detected by the system.

even after I unplug the MT7601U Wireless Adapter from the Lubuntu 18.04 LTS virtual machine, "lsusb" still shows it as "detected by the system".

I tried this also with the latest Lubuntu 18.10 and Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, this issue is also there in both of them. Can you tell me what should I do?

[ubuntu] Wifi card driver install help.

Hi everyone,

I have been looking around for awhile now for the solution to my problem however I can't seem to find one and I'm on the verge of pulling my hair out.
The issue in question is that I'm trying to install the drivers associated with my wifi card but I'm rather new to linux so I'm not quite sure what I should be doing with the driver files.
If anyone can explain to me what it is I have to do that would be great. Keep in mind that this computer has no access to internet whatsoever.

[kubuntu] Kubuntu 18.10: Alfa AWUS036ACH Finding No Networks and Not Connecting

After installing the basic drivers, I got connected to the WiFi. About an hour later, it disconnected and showed no networks in range at all--I tried rebooting, disconnecting the USB, scanning again, etc. Eventually it seemed to start working again.

But then it disconnected and once again shows no networks found.

I've tried looking in Network Manager--every time it connects to a network it seems to make that a new connection restricted to a particular address, and then won't even show the network whilst it's there. On top of disconnecting, now it seems to refuse to connect--it asks for the password once, then, when it would previously go through configuring interface... it does nothing.

I have an Ubuntu server running 14.04 on a "fitlet i" (AMD A4 Micro-6400T APU + AMD Radeon R3 Graphics @ 4x 1GHz) and I haven't upgraded the OS because the networking setup is flawless and I know newer Ubuntu changes the networking significantly.

The server uses the iwlwifi driver for the Intel chip, and running hostapd to deliver wireless in host/AP mode. This is my /etc/hostapd/hostapd.conf

Code:

#channel=36 #for N/5ghz

Aside from writing my own driver, are there any ways to get 5ghz wireless out of this thing?

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 16.04 - Sennheiser bluetooth headset lagging with A2DP

Hi there,
I just got a Sennheiser HD 4.40 BT headset, and it works perfectly with my phone and on Windows 10 (I have a dual boot on my laptop), but it's giving me problems on Ubuntu 16.04.

I can use it with the HSP/HFP audio profile, but the audio quality is plainly horrible. If I switch to A2DP the sound quality gets much better, but then the audio starts lagging. The lag starts almost immediately, it seems the audio is buffering (after I stop the video or the song, it keeps playing the sound for a few seconds afterwards).
I seem to understand it is a common issue, but I can't figure a way to fix it. I read it could be related to the Wi-Fi and the Bluetooth conflicting, but the lag still happens if I connect to Internet through an ethernet cable, or even if I watch a movie on my laptop.

Any suggestion on how to fix this? Thanks!

The gist of the problem is: I constantly have to run "sudo service network-manager restart" in order to reconnect to the internet.

Basically, I'll be randomly doing internet things, and all of a sudden, the page will seemingly take forever to load. A simple ping to google will hang forever, and dmesg will have a series of lines like this:

Upgraded from Ubuntu 16.04 to 18.04 - wifi no longer working

Hi

Very inexperienced non technical Linux user here.

I recently upgraded to Ubuntu 18.04, which has resulted in me now being unable to connect to wifi.

My computer can see the various wifi networks available, but is unable to connect to any of them.

I have been googling around for the past 6 hours, and tried multiple things I've read, but with no luck.

Any help would be much appreciated ..i am running an old Toshiba machine. this is my main laptop and this recent Ubuntu upgrade and associated difficulties has made me consider switching to a Mac instead for productivity reasons. The lack of internet on the laptop is making it particularly difficult to troubleshoot .

Many thanks in advance for any help that can be offered.

Thanks!

No access to shares on Windows 2012 Server, Samba is installed.

I am a Linux beginner and I’m currently looking for a good distro for my novice purposes. I’ve looked at Ubuntu, SuSe and elementary OS, among others, I’ve settled on Ubuntu for a couple of reasons but I’m stumped by a networking issue dealing with my old Windows server. My explanation is probably very n00b-like, but here goes..

I’m running an old Window Server 2012 R2 Essentials machine, named BJSERVER, with a lot of movies, TV-series and such. I can access the shares on my Windows PC’ s without issues and also on Android devices and on a Macbook. But not on Ubuntu. The server is on a domain that I named BJ-NET.

- I’ve installed Samba. I can access a share that is on the Ubuntu machine on my Windows PC and use that without problems.
- If I look in File Manager under ‘Other locations’ I do see my Windows PC, but not the server. There is however ‘Windows Network’. If I go there, There are two items; WORKGROUP and BJ-NET.
- If I click on BJ-NET I get the following error:

'Unable to access location. Failed to retrieve share list form server: success'

- If I type ‘smbtree’ in terminal I get the following listing:

WORKGROUP
\\SHIELD
\\FRITZ-NAS FRITZ!Box
\\FRITZ-NAS\IPC$ IPC Service (FRITZ!Box)
\\FRITZ-NAS\FRITZ.NAS
\\EPSONC2814B
\\EPSONC2814B\USBSTORAGE EPSON
\\EPSONC2814B\IPC$ IPC Service
\\WIN-PC Ryzen-PC
\\ASUS-LAPTOP Samba 4.8.4-Ubuntu
BJ-NET
\\BJSERVER Server

So it does list the server here. After reading some other post about this issue I added the line '192.168.1.2 BJSERVER' to the hosts file. And I added the line 'name resolve order = host bcast lmhosts wins' to smb.conf. This had no effect.
I’m probably forgetting something obvious, but what amazes me is; in Elementary OS everything works out of the box. If I go to ‘Windows Network’ and click on ‘BJ-NET’ I have full access to the server.

All help is extremely appreciated

Hi I am a newbie as far as Linux is concerned and I am struggling with an issue. I wonder if anyone can help? I have a new HP Pavilion Laptop that I want to convert to Ubuntu to have play? Everything seemed to be ok on the install until the system wanted to download updates during the installation. The system does not appear to recognise the wireless device. I am currently using a bit of steam technology, A Net Gear Dongle that is like a house brick!

Can anyone tell me, how I can get Ubuntu to recognise the internal wireless device.

If you can keep it simple, I am Old and Grey and quite new to Linux and Ubuntu.

Many Thanks

[xubuntu] help needed to uninstall ExpressVPN

Essentially I have no internet, with or without vpn. I'm not using wireless, it's
all cables. The computer I'm using now and the one that has problems are
both connected to the same router.

I've been chatting for hours with the ExpressVPN people and eventually they
gave up.

They say their software has been tested with Ubuntu but not Xubuntu. This is
Xubuntu 16.04, up to date.

Everything I did trying to temporarily remove ExpressVPN to reinstall it, following
their advices, using apt, dpkg, and Ubuntu Software Center resulted in no internet
connection and a broken vpn, while Ubuntu Software Center reports that
ExpressVPN is still installed.

Even if I wanted to permanently remove ExpressVPN and use the internet without
it, like i did before I Installed it, I cannot.

Thanks in advance for any help or advice.

Problem with logical interface of my network Arcnet PCI20EX-CBX Card

Hello,

I have a PCI Express card with BNC Port, its an Arcnet PCI20EX-CBX of Contemporary Controls, normally, ubuntu has its own driver for this card implemented in the kernel under the name of : Com20020 or Com20020pci (in an Arcnet folder), so i used modprobe to use it as a module, normally i can see the card as a network Card but there is no logical interface for it (for example "eth0" for my network ethernet card) as you can see below :

for info : I use Ubuntu 14.

sudo lshw -c network -businfo

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 18.04 Server as router

$

I installed Ubuntu server (18.04) months ago which I would like to configure as a router, besides all the other stuff it's already doing for me.

In the older versions things worked fine, but it appears since 18.04 things are very different now.
I tried countless things I found, but with no result.
A few examples:
to the letter: https://www.ascinc.com/blog/linux/ho...bionic-beaver/
read and tried: https://help.ubuntu.com/lts/serverguide/firewall.html
https://linoxide.com/linux-how-to/in...e-dhcp-ubuntu/
http://manpages.ubuntu.com/manpages/...netplan.5.html

What do I have:
- A working Ubuntu Server 18.04 that is connected to internet, DHCP and UFW up and running
- A working Ubuntu Client 17.04 that can ping to the server (and the other way arround)
I can temp. connect the client directly to internet, which is working and I use to search stuff,
or I can connect my server and use a switch between my server and client, which enables me to test "whatever I found"

Of course, switching cables each time is time consuming and nerve wrecking.
In next post I will dig up the configuration files from my server and put them here.
If there is additional information I need to provide, I'm happy to hear it.

Thanks in advance if you can help me out.

Ubuntu 18.04 asymmetrical wired network connection speeds?

$

So... I'm relatively new to this, just did a new install of Ubuntu 18.04 on an older laptop (dual boot with Win10) and am having a somewhat weird issue with file transfer speeds, not sure where to go to troubleshoot.

The machine is an older Lenovo (3000 V200 laptop) that has been running various Windows since it was born, currently on Win10 and working fine, just veeerrrryyyy slow with Win... I loaded Ubuntu on it in hopes of having a snappier option to use for various low-impact tasks (like web browsing, downloading, file transfers...)

The machine is part of a local network that includes various other devices, including two Raspberry Pi media centers (one for video running Openelec/Kodi, one for audio running Raspbian/Clementine) and a home office desktop that is on Windows 10. All devices are wired connections, all appear to be working fine themselves. I can transfer files at "normal" speeds between the various RPI and desktop devices with no problems.

When the Lenovo is booted to Windows, it also has no problem with this - transfer speeds usually in the 10MB/S range.

HOWEVER, when the Lenovo is booted into Ubuntu, the same machine, with no changes in connectivity, will only transfer FROM itself TO other devices with a max transfer speed of about 400Kb/S. Often substantially slower.

Strangely enough, if I initiate a transfer TO the laptop from any of the other devices on the network (doing this using the laptop's file manager), the transfer speed approaches the same 10MB/S I get when the machine is doing the same transfer inside Windows.

To summarize - transfers from laptop to network devices, slow. Transfers from network devices to laptop, fast. Boot same machine into Windows with no changes otherwise, both directions fast...

I'm far from a Linux expert, but here are some configuration details below.

What should I look for in this to figure this out? It's not the world's largest problem, but the general purpose of this machine is to download large files and transfer them out to the network so it's annoying to have that take 10-20 times the time it should...

Hello,

On running: systemd-analyze blame -> networking.service
Code:

22.613s networking.service
On running sudo nano /etc/network/interfaces
Code:

# interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
auto br1
iface br1 inet dhcp
  bridge_ports enp0s25
  bridge_stp on
  bridge_fd 0.0

I have a KVM Hypervisor that works perfectly. It's my personal primary home machine.

Any idea how to speed this up? Thanks

[ubuntu] Fallback WiFi on same network - trying to figure out how to configure it?

Running a fresh install of 18.04. I know it can sound dumb, but my home server has had some odd struggles lately with the system and its network. It plugs into a 24-port Dlink unmanaged switch. Anyway, I'm considering a backup option via a WiFi adapter for access to resolve network issues such as resetting the network service through ssh remotely using that new route. How would I go about having the two interfaces and having the system automatically start using the WiFi data route when the wired NIC isn't functioning, ie. it's network is down, and then stop using WiFi when the wired network is online and when it returns after resetting it following an outage?

Thanks in advance.

[ubuntu] WIFI signal is very weak on HP laptop RTL8723BE (Tried so many solutions)

Greetings everyone,

I have tried every solution I could find as there are a lot out there with the same issue but still can't get a strong wifi signal. I'm using an HP laptop with a RTL8723BE wireless network adapter on Ubuntu 18.04.1 LTS.

I was able to resolve this issue in the past (not long ago maybe a month or so) by downloading and following the steps here at https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new , but now it's not being fixed anymore.

When I run iwlist scan | egrep -i 'ssid|quality' I get very close results for both antennas (ant_sel=1 or ant_sel=2) always -70 or less.

I read somewhere that the new kernel has fixed this issue, so I updated my kernel but couldn't get it fixed yet.

Please let me know what to do to help you help me :)

Any help is appreciated!
