[ubuntu] Ethernet connection turned off on reboot with the VPN auto-connect option enabled
Hey guys I've been trying to solve this little problem most of the day to no avail. I apologize if this issue is posted elsewhere. I have searched the forums but didn't find any posts with my particular problem. I've been using Ubuntu 18.04 for a while now and just started getting into the VPN world. After some digging on Google I found the nm-connection-editor command to run in the terminal, which I was able to enable the "Automatically connect to VPN when using this connection" option under Wired Connection 1. However, after rebooting, Wired Connection 1 was turned off, as was my chosen VPN connection. when I turned the Wired Connection 1 back on the VPN connection came on with it. I've tried different things but no luck. Has anyone have any suggestions or have dealt with this in the past? I have seen one other person with this issue on another forum which goes back to 2014. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

[ubuntu] 2NIC, 2IPs but one faster connection
Dear All,
I have a question and I do not know if someone can help.
I work at the university and the institution limited internet speed at 10Mb per second. However, I got a new computer with two Network card and I can request two IPs.
I would like to test whether combining the two cards with two IPs, i can increase internet speed. I saw few examples in netplan examples but none of them can help me.
Can you someone help?
cheers
Luigi

[SOLVED] Reboot vs Shutdown, Wait, Start
Reboot vs Shutdown, Wait, Start
RE: TP-Link TL WN823N RTL8192EU
Issue: TL WN823N fails to establish wireless connection upon reboot of system
I have owned the referenced USB network adapter for a couple of years now. It is currently connected to a dual-boot machine with Xubuntu 19.04 and 19.10 installed.
Observations over the past several weeks:
Cold Boot: System starts with TL WN823N connecting wirelessly with the router/AP.
Warm Reboot: System starts with TL WN823N NOT connecting with the router/AP.
Shutdown, Wait 30-60 seconds, Boot: System starts with TL WN823N connecting wirelessly with the router/AP.
My best unscientific guess: The warm reboot does not allow time for the registers to drain to 0 volts while the cold boot and the shutdown, wait, boot sequence provides enough time for the registers to drain to 0 volts.
Any thoughts?

[ubuntu] Bridging wireless and Ethernet on my laptop
Hi good people,
I have an old laptop lying around with CentOS 6 32-bit installed on it already (upgraded it from Windows XP) and am trying to bridge that laptop's wireless network connection with its Ethernet network connection. I thought it would be a breeze but apparently it isn't, so I am thinking of pulling the trick of switching distros and am considering a 32-bit Ubintu flavor.
How would I bridge wireless and Ethernet in ubuntu-12.04.5, provided it is at all possible?
Scenario:
Laptop has a wireless adapter that connects it to the Internet, address is in the range of 10.0.0.0/24, it is assigned dynamically from a router two houses away, to which I don't have access (it's somebody else's house, we are all in a gated community). Laptop also has an Ethernet adapter which will connect to a home wireless router- that wireless router will provide internet connection around my house and also keep my network devices from being accessed by my neighbors by accident (we're all on the same network as it is now and I'd be happy to separate but keep the internet connection). That wireless router will also assign network address to the Ethernet adapter of my laptop.
I need to share the internet connection from the wireless card to the Ethernet adapter. So the now- CentOS 6 and in the future Ubuntu 12.04 laptop will serve as a pasthrough of sorts.

[ubuntu] Bluetooth access by class of device
Hello, I have bluetooth dongle connected to Ubuntu 18.04. Is it possible to restrict incoming Bluetooth connections by device class (CoD)? Can I write a set of rules for income device in conf file /etc/bluetooth/input.conf (including CoD)?

What PID/program is this?
I am running the netstat command to check if there are any unwanted connections and there is a program which keeps coming up for a few seconds that I don't know about.
Here is a description : udp 0 0 0.0.0.0:44848 0.0.0.0:* 20730/host
This shows up many times but only for a short time and the other PIDs that it has shown up with are 512, 32404, 32353, 31509, 31123. The port of the local address is different also every time.
Sometimes it shows up when I connect to the internet after disconnecting and sometimes it does not.
Can you provide some information on how to detect unwanted access using netstat or some other program?
I ran a virus scan and I found nothing.

UFW only allows connections in when admin is logged in
Hello.
I have a fresh install of Ubuntu 18.04 on a computer that I have set up with 4 accounts, one of which being an admin account. When I set up ufw under the admin account with the following commands, everything works fine; the other three users are able to log in remotely to the computer.
sudo ufw enable
sudo ufw allow to any port 22 to tcp from x.x.0.0/16 (I removed the first two numbers for privacy reasons)
sudo iptables-save
sudo ufw status numbered
However, once I log out of the admin account, the other three accounts are no longer able to log in remotely via PuTTy (or otherwise) to the computer, until I sign back into the admin account. I would like it so that the other three users are still able to log in and access the computer even while the admin account is logged out. I appreciate any help that you can provide. Thank you.

Bluetooth not finding any devices
Hello, I'm writing here because I can't manage to pair my headphones since bluetooth doesn't find any device when scannig (tried with different devices to no avail). I have a Lenovo B50-10 that uses a Realtek RTL8723BE as its network/bluetooth adapter, wifi works fine, the bluetooth adapter is detected by the OS but when I search for devices no results show up so I can't pair my headphones (Sony WH1000xm3, don't know if it's relevant). I'm running KDE Neon but I'm posting here since the community seems more active and, as I understand it, it shouldn't make much of a difference, if it's against some rule I apologize.
Looking at other discussions on this topic it seems this should be useful:

[ubuntu] Tp Link usb device slower than Windows 10
So I just installed Ubuntu 18.04 along with Windows 10. I'm pretty amazed with it's speed when booting, starting apps, etc. However, the only problem so far has been Wi fi.
You'll see, since I got this laptop 2 years ago, it had wi fi issues: it identified the surrounding networks and it was able to connect with them, but not to actually use internet. I tried everything, from trying everything I found in the internet, to ask for technical support. One guy even said that the problem was windows 8, and proceeded to install windows 10, nothing changed at all. I gave up and resigned to use my ethernet cable (so i couldn't use internet out of the modem room). One day my mom brought this wireless usb device, hoping that it'd solve my problem. It came with a disk. I just ran it in my laptop, and it worked. I finally got wi fi.
That was like one and a half year ago. Back to a few days, the device wasn't working on Ubuntu. Later i realized that it was due to Ubuntu not having installed the driver that the Tp Link CD had previously installed on Windows 10. When i tried to run it again, it couldn't run the executable file. Even after properly installing wine and the executable file "running", it couldn't install the driver due to it not recognizing it.
Long story short, I had to find the driver on the internet (using my ethernet cable) and install it, thus making the usb device work again. That moment truly was glorius, or at least that's what i thought...
Recently I found that Firefox was reaaaally taking it's time to load sites. I updated it, installed chromium, but it was the same. When plugged the ethernet cable, I found out that the problem weren't the browsers.
Again, I've been looking on the web an answer, and although I see similar situations, none of the solutions works for me. The driver is TL WN-725N (V2). The drivers on the internet don't really specify the version of the driver, so i don't know where to find it. Please, I need help.
PS: The CD actually has a folder called "Linux Driver", but it only contains a .txt file, which reads "For Linux users, please visit the TP-LINK support website, find and download the compatible version of driver for your network adapter at www.tp-link.com.". According to the support site, only the V3 supports Linux. V2 supports only Windows and Mac.

A start job is running for Raise network interfaces (5min 2s) in Ubuntu 18.04
Problem: 5 minute delay on startup
Device: UP board, running 18.04, with a Panda PAU05 wireless USB adapter, connected via HDMI to a keyboard
Network configuration: using netplan and systemd-networkd. NetworkManager is not installed.
When the Ethernet is connected, the device boots up quickly. I can unplug the Ethernet and rely on wifi. SSH works, etc.
When the Ethernet is not connected, there's a 5 minute delay. The console says "A start job is running for Raise network interfaces (Xmin Ys / 5min 2s)" and slowly counts up to 5min 2s. I can ping the device, but ssh is refused: "ssh: connect to host rodeobot.local port 22: Connection refused". After 5 minutes the boot completes fine.
I tinkered with my netplan to make both ethernet and wifi interfaces optional, but this doesn't help. I also tried removing the ethernet interface, but that didn't help. Here's "/etc/netplan/config.yaml":
Any ideas?

[lubuntu] Multi-homed network question
I have Lubuntu 16.04 based system very customized.
I have a question about networking and seems there is no clear info
First:
I have a machine that must connect to two networks.
eth1 is wired ethernet with International's access.
wlan2 is Wifi that connects to a scanner direct . The scanners DHCP server MUST assign the IP address or the scanner will not work It can NOT use a fixed IP. (THIS IS THE WAY THIS SCANNER WORKS IT CAN NOT BE CHANGED!)
This scanner is shared over the network with other machines by way of a custom app, over eth1.
wlan2 is not always connected. In fact the scanner will turn itself off after a few minutes.
Sometimes when I turn on the scanner and the wifi connects to it, I lose internet access.
Interestingly enough I had another machine running ubuntu 16.04 and never had this issue when it was used as the scanner host. I do not have the network configuration from that machine.
I have tried assigning fixed IP and google DNS to the eth1 , that seems to make no difference.
Now in network settings I see that I can use DHCP addresses only on the wlan2 but I still have the issue.
Any suggestions?

useradd via ssh - struggles to make user profile to work
Hi.
I have currently two computers on my home network.
I'm in the process of learning to use ssh, so I may not doing it the easiest way.
On the desktop there are currently only one user profile, and I want to make another user - using SSH when sitting in front of the laptop - ADN this user will have its home folder encrypted.
Previous to this I have make SSH to work properly, and I have already tested rsync between the computers to function just well.
Here is detailed steps of what I have done so far (Already logged in on desktop via ssh as main user) :
Adding new user
~$ sudo useradd -G lager littlebrother
~$ passwd littlebrother
Installing ecryptfs package
~$ sudo apt-get install ecryptfs-utils cryptsetup
Trying to encrypt the new users home dir
~$ sudo ecryptfs-migrate-home -u littlebrother
Sign of trouble. After some searching on internet I learned that the useradd command probably don't create a home dir for the new user. So I found a recipee on how to manually add the user home dir.
Trying to login as the newly created user - expect this to work now, but
ssh littlebrother@192.168.0.14
When logged in as the other user, it seemed like any other commands other than "exit" have no effect. How comes?
Is it because there are no shell? Can this be fixed without deleting the user?

I previously had two NIC's (enp6s0 and enp7s0) defined as slaves to bond0, which had a static IP address. However, somewhat recently after a reboot I was having enp6s0 getting an IP address via dhcp, and this resulting in conflicts (bond0 still got it's static IP, enp6s0 getting a dhcp IP). I commented out my existing /etc/network/interfaces setup, and just set enp6s0 to a static configuration:
Curiously, after a reboot, ifconfig shows bond0 still existing and receiving an ip address (also 192.168.0.10). There is nothing in /etc/netplan, and I've never done anything with netplan. /etc/network/interfaces.d/ is empty as well.
Where else can bond0 be being defined? How can I go about tracking this down?
Code:
# This file describes the network interfaces available on your system
# and how to activate them. For more information, see interfaces(5).
source /etc/network/interfaces.d/*
# The loopback network interface

iface lo inet loopback
# The primary network interface
#auto enp6s0
#iface enp6s0 inet manual
# bond-master bond0
#auto enp7s0

#auto bond0
#iface bond0 inet static
# bond-slaves enp6s0 enp7s0
# bond-mode 1
# bond-miimon 100
auto enp6s0
iface enp6s0 inet static
address 192.168.0.10
netmask 255.255.255.0

broadcast 192.168.0.255
gateway 192.168.0.1

[ubuntu] Network not working
Hey
Have Ubuntu 18:04. My network stop work on one machine. Have changed cabels but stilll broken. It just says " Connection failed Activation of network connection failed " in a pop-up window. Under Settings network [ Wired, Connection - 100Mb/s ON ]. If I unplugg the network cabel, [ Cabel unplugged ] and also a pop-up windows says so. It looks like my Router give the computer an ip-adress, but I don't have ipconfig in the standard installation of 18:04. :(
How can I find the error?
Cheers /Azyx

[ubuntu] How to make VPN connect automatically after login (18.04)
I have a working VPN on Ubuntu 18.04.2 and GNOME shell 3.28.3.
I can't see how to make the VPN connect automatically after I login. How do I do that?
I do not want the VPN available to all users.
I want the VPN to start automatically after I log in, and I also want then to be able to control it using the standard network settings panel and have the VPN connect icon in the system tray to show that it is indeed still running.
