DISTRIB_DESCRIPTION="Ubuntu 19.04"

wireless ip address for the computer is 192.168.2.5
I like to use the OpenDNS Our FamilyShield nameservers are:
208.67.222.123
208.67.220.123

I was told to set my dns servers in nm-connection-editor ip address 4 dns servers 208.67.222.123, 208.67.220.123 but they do not work. then was told

sudo nano /etc/netplan/01-network-manager-all.yaml
set up /etc/netplan with
Code:

# Let NetworkManager manage all devices on this system
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: NetworkManager

sudo netplan generate
sudo netplan apply

I have done this and the porn still gets through. And yes I have cleared the browser cash. And check to make sure I have the right DNS addresses. Did I do something wrong?

[ubuntu] Leaking IP...

So I got a problem with leaking IP that I can’t seem to fix in Ubuntu 18.04, or in fresh install of Ubuntu 19.04.
Using a VPN and trying whatsmyip.com it has my country but different city, whatismyipaddress.com has both my city and country. A common theme observed is ipv6 seems to be the culprit, but despite changing media.peerconnection.enabled to false in firefox, disabling ipv6 in Ubuntu, and installing dnscrypt, these two websites still leak my IP. I read it best to do a fresh install to use dnscrypt, tried but no use. Cellphone don’t leak IP, says ipv6 not detected thats why thinking must be ipv6 related. Odd thing some IP leak test websites don’t reveal leak, others do.
What more steps can I take to stop my real IP leaking?

Strange WiFi connectivity / DNS issues, Ubuntu 18.04, Dell XPS 13

Hello everybody,

This is my first post here so please bear with me. Ever since updating my Dell XPS 13 9360 to Ubuntu 18.04 I've had some strange connectivity issues with my WiFi at home, while all others seem to work just fine. I cannot make much sense of it, which is why I'm asking for your help. After booting WiFi sometimes works and sometimes just doesn't. I frequently get a message of "Activation of network connection failed", but again not always. Sometimes I'm able to connect and certain websites like Google load (and I can also google things), whereas most other websites don't. In these situations Chrome throws me an error of "DNS_PROBE_FINISHED_NXDOMAIN" or "ERR_NAME_NOT_RESOLVED" for most websites, which sounds like a DNS issue. If I then try to ping 8.8.8.8 I get a "connect: Network is unreachable" error. Strangely enough, in some occasions after some reboots, random attempts to disconnect and reconnect again everything eventually works. As I couldn't make out any pattern in all of this, I'd be really grateful for your help. I've never had any of these issues with the neighbour's WiFi.

Please let me know what information I should supply you with.

Thanks a lot!

[ubuntu] Strange problem with browsers and vpn

Hi guys,
I want to use my vpn to navigate in more secure mode. I use openVpn and start it from script. When i am connecting with vpn the browser do not work, however if i ping 8.8.8.8 i recive the response.
After read online, i found that the problem may be the MTU set as default at 1500. So i set it equal to 2304: greater values are not possible because return my error. But the problem remain.
I have a double partition on my ssd, so i boot windows and it work!!
On ubuntu i can navigate only if i close the vpn. There is a problem in my os?
I tried to clear cache and data from mozilla, also uninstall, but nothing. I have got also chrome and it behave the same.
Thanks guy, hope to resolve this, not for use the vpn but to know why

Unable to establish SSH Connection through Router

I know there are a ton of these posts, but I've done a number of the intermediate steps and am just unable to figure out where to go next.

I have an ISP provided modem, performing IP Passthrough to my router. My router is then set to forward my ssh port (21212) to a machine on my network. (I have also tried enabled DMZ, no change in behavior).

I have no issues connecting from within the network using multiple machines.

The IP Tables list output on the server is as follows:

Code:

iptables -L
Code:

Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target    prot opt source              destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target    prot opt source              destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target    prot opt source              destination

Using a VPN and attempting to connect while watching tcpdump (ignoring my local device which is already established) I see the following:

Code:

tcpdump port 21212 and host not 10.0.0.12 -n -Q inout
Code:

tcpdump: verbose output suppressed, use -v or -vv for full protocol decode

I'm not sure what's going on, I don't know tcpdump as well as I should. It seems like the packets are getting received but dropped, making me think it has something to do with my SSHD configuration, but I can't find anything there which would cause such an issue.

Does anyone have any suggestions for next steps? Any ideas would be appreciated.

[ubuntu] Ethernet connection using Ethernet-USB adapter drops after a few seconds

Hi everyone,

I am facing the problem of unstable wired internet connection. In fact, I am using an adapter USB-Ethernet since my laptop does not have a direct ethernet port. After plugging in the cable I manage to load more or less 1 page and then the connection drops. When i ping I get 100% package loss. I was thinking that it might be a problem with the drivers but apparently it isn't since at the beginning i do get a connection. It must be some kind of conflict somewhere but i can't figure out what is causing it.
Thanks.

possible to access internet on moto e4 via usb connection to ubuntu desktop computer?

Just bought a motorola moto e4. This is the first cell phone I have ever used, so I don't know much about them. Is it possible to access the internet on my cellphone via my xubuntu 18.04 desktop comp with a direct usb connection? I have a plugables adapter which works when I plug it into the cellphone and then into my cable modem/router via lan. But this drains the battery fast. I would like to access the internet on my phone while at the same time charging the battery. (I can charge the battery and access the net on my phone via wifi from my modem/router, but prefer not to use wifi if possible).

I have installed mtp-tools and jmtpfs. When I plug the phone into my xubuntu 18.04 desktop, an icon for moto e4 appears on the desktop. I swipe down from the top on my phone and there is written "USB for file transfer" (Other options are "charge this device" , "transfer photos" and "use device as midi" . I have selected "use for file transfer" but still have no internet on the phone. Can anyone help? Please note I am not very expert with linux, so don't assume too much knowledge on my part.

Activation of network connection failed on Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on HP Pavillon 14 n007la

2 days ago I installed Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on HP Pavilion 14 n007la and things were working fine, until yesterday night WiFi internet suddenly stopped working (it had been working fine until that moment).

First I lost the connection to my WiFi network. Now every time I try to connect after a minute an error "Activation of network connection failed" is displayed.

The problem is not with this particular WiFi network nor router device, as I tried connecting to 3 different WiFi networks on 3 different devices and got the same error for each one of them

  • It's also not related to OS configuration, as I tried running fresh copy of Ubuntu 18.04 LTS live from USB and am getting the same errors
  • Other devices (e.g. my phone) connect to the same WiFi networks without problems

That makes me think the problem is on hardware level, not OS level.

From system logs I can see that the failure happens at DHCP, with DHCP requests being timed out.

The network controller driver in use is rt2800pci:

Sorry the code is an image and not text, but now I have only internet access on my phone and that's the only way I can capture it.

I've read many other similar questions but none of the solutions posted there worked for me.

What can I do?

[xubuntu] Huawei E5220 3G wifi hotspot, no internet. (Xubuntu Xenial)

Hello, I'd like help getting my usb device to access the internet. It's wifi hotspot that connects to 3G+ bands on its own, as far as the computer is concerned it's a router. From what I understand it uses the ethernet protocol through USB, on windows it shows up as a LAN connection, right next to the ethernet connection. It works fine on windows and puppy linux, I'm actually using it right now on puppy, where it uses the wwan0 interface, but when I try to add an ethernet connection on Xubuntu, only the ethernet interface appears (which is eth0 on puppy, and is connected to an old router that no longer gets internet, I use it to transfer files to other devices) nothing interface shows up if I try to add it as a 3G dongle, I've tried a bunch of usb-modeswitch commands I've read online but they don't work for me.

This is what I get from lsusb:
Bus 001 Device 008: ID 12d1:1506 Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. Modem/Networkcard

I have a feeling I'm not supplying enough information about the device, but I don't know what else to say or how to get that info.

My O/S in desktop is UBUNTU 19.04 64 bit. Due to lightning, the embedded LAN Card in the M/B became ineffective. Therefore, I purchased the above mentioned LAN card. My source of network connection is "wired". In the NETWORK of SETTINGS it is shown that D-Link System Ethernet is "connected". But in fact I'm not getting any connection. Need help.

[xubuntu] can not connect to wifi networks with 17.04

Yesterday I converted from 14.04 to 17.04. I can not connect to either of my two wireless networks since doing the conversion.

The network manager can "see" the networks. I've verified and re-verified that I've entered the passwords correctly. AFAIK I'm using the same security settings which worked previously when I used v14.04.

The first thumbnail below is what I see when I activate the network manager. The second one shows the result of trying to connect to my dlink router.

FWIW the computer is a Gateway P-170X, dual core Pentium, 3GB RAM, SSD. I believe the internal network adapter is from Realtek.

I am lost. At what should I look to identify what I've done wrong?

TIA

vsftpd wont start with ssl options

Hello, I had a ftp server setup for a long time and I wanted to try setting up TLS connection again. Though, something unexpected happens with the server. I can't start it with the SSL options active in the vsftpd.conf file but when the server is already running (without the SSL variables) and I uncomment all the SSL related options and simply do :
Code:

sudo service vsftpd reload
vsftpd reloads without stopping and SSL is now active and I can do TLS connections.
It is a quite unpractical setup as I would have to always do this little manipulation whenever the server suddently stops or when I reboot my physical server (it's actualy a laptop running a desktop Ubuntu release with all unnecessary programs removed). Here is my vsftpd.conf :
Code:

# Allow anonymous FTP? (Beware - allowed by default if you comment this out).
anonymous_enable=NO
# Uncomment this to allow local users to log in.
local_enable=YES
# Uncomment this to enable any form of FTP write command.
write_enable=YES
# Default umask for local users is 077. You may wish to change this to 022,
# if your users expect that (022 is used by most other ftpd's)
local_umask=022
# Make sure PORT transfer connections originate from port 20 (ftp-data).
#connect_from_port_20=YES
# You may override where the log file goes if you like. The default is shown
# below.
xferlog_file=/var/log/vsftpd.log
# You may change the default value for timing out an idle session.
#idle_session_timeout=600
#
# You may change the default value for timing out a data connection.
#data_connection_timeout=120
#
# You may specify an explicit list of local users to chroot() to their home
# directory. If chroot_local_user is YES, then this list becomes a list of
# users to NOT chroot().
# (Warning! chroot'ing can be very dangerous. If using chroot, make sure that
# the user does not have write access to the top level directory within the
# chroot)
chroot_local_user=YES
secure_chroot_dir=/var/run/vsftpd/empty
# When "listen" directive is enabled, vsftpd runs in standalone mode and
# listens on IPv4 sockets. This directive cannot be used in conjunction
# with the listen_ipv6 directive.

#
# This directive enables listening on IPv6 sockets. To listen on IPv4 and IPv6
# sockets, you must run two copies of vsftpd with two configuration files.
# Make sure, that one of the listen options is commented !!

#userlist_file=/etc/vsftpd.userlist
# when userlist_deny is set to NO, it is a whitelist
# when userlist_deny is set to YES, it is a blacklist
#userlist_deny=NO

I know it is still full of junk and some annotations that makes sense only for me. I read many forums online and so far I can't find the problem with my settings. Any of you, experienced users of vsftpd, have an idea why I have to do that manipulation in order to get TLS working?

Installed ubuntu 18.04.2 LTS yesterday on Lenovo Z580 and everything was working perfectly. Come back today and wifi can no longer connect, just says "Activation of network connection failed".

Internet works over ethernet so I'm not sure what it is. Thanks.

FIXED: After looking at wireless report I saw that the bcma and bcmsmac were blacklisted in multiple locations. Removed the blacklist and working again.

Hello all,
Complete Newbie here!

Recently I installed a Ubuntu Server 16.04 LTS on a Lenovo S110 Ideapad netbook. The installation and everything went well however I cannot connect to my network (and the internet) through either the Ethernet or the WiFi. X2go client

Hi all

I discovered x2go recently and configured it on a first, then o =n a second machine

On the second machine, when i try to connect to the server, i get the following in the terminal which originated the x2go command:

x2go-INFO-8> "Démarrage de la connexion au serveur : xx.xxx.xxx.xxx:nnn"
Enter PEM pass phrase:
Generating public/private rsa key pair.
Your identification has been saved in /home/NAME/.x2go/ssh/gen/key.Lh2370.
Your public key has been saved in /home/NAME/.x2go/ssh/gen/key.Lh2370.pub.
The key fingerprint is:
SHA256:ABunchOFCaractersdJkp4 X2Go Client RSA user key
The key's randomart image is:
(and the image)

I have to enter something as a PEM Passphrase (or carriage return)
on the first machine, i do not have that question nor the few lines afterwards. I get directly the question for the passphrase which is in the key i have prepared for ssh (which question I also get on the second machine, after this prior exchange)

Anyone please can explain me what is happening here which is not happening on the other machine ??
Where am I missing anything ?
thanks !

[lubuntu] Ugrade Sometimes Breaks Wifi

Lubuntu 18.04 LTS
Wifi EDUP EP-AC1607 USB adapter.
Driver rtl8812au-dkms installed using Synaptic Package Manager.

A a couple of recent offered upgrades, the Wifi stopped working.
Used Synaptic Package Manager to re-install each time.

Not an onerous task, but does this signify something wrong with my installation ?
If most reliable way forward is to re-install as necessary, then that is Ok.

The only real concern, is that the WiFi is used to download all the upgrade packages.
Am I missing any final tidy-up steps that were attempted after Wifi failure during the upgrade process ?

is there a tool that i could use (via sudo) that can force drop a TCP connection (or SCTP session) based on knowing the 2 addresses and ports it is working on (that can be seen in netstat or tcpdump)?
