Wifi will no longer turn on - hp laptop
Hello Ubuntuns,
I have been running 18.04.2 for some time with no issues. A couple of days ago, the WIFI would not turn on. This happened both with the built in unit and a Panda unit I tried in usb. Both units were recognized by the system. When i clicked on the turn WIFI on items in the menu, it winked out but nothing happened. WIFI remained off. There were no updates I am aware of. I did reload the OS. No improvement. I have run the script to create a wifi-info.txt which I will attach below. Any help much appreciated, thanks in advance!

[ubuntu] Can't resolve anything, pulling hairs in frustration
I installed Ombi for my Plex which downgraded my libcurl4 a few versions to allow for some dependencies. The day after I accidentally tried to put too much on 1 partition and was moving some things around from my Plex Library folders.
After having it down for a restart it couldn't resolve anything. This machine has been restarted many many times before this without issue.
Currently using systemd-resolved on Ubuntu server 18.04.
Using cloudflares 1.1.1.1 dns server.
The issue started with being up to 30 seconds for a resolve with systemd-resolved and non functioning nslookup and ping. Then it became a Connection timed out; No servers reached. Now I just have System error.
I got terabytes of data on this machine, so a fresh install is not an option.
What information do you need to assist me? I've been wasting days trying to figure this out.

How can I prevent rogue DHCP services/servers?
Hi,
Every now and then, someone plugs in a router into our LAN with its own DHCP. This DHCP starts handling IPs to some computers and these computers cannot communicate with the rest of the system. Currently, I am in the process of redesigning the network to improve the security of the system. The first step is to physically secure the switches and ports. But of course, a wisecrack can still unlplug an office computer and plug his router from there. What else can I do to prevent this from happening again?
A thread I found where this was mentioned said that Microsoft's Active Directory could help this as it would verify the DHCP server in question before allowing it into the network. I cant find resources describing this in LDAP.

[ubuntu] Sharing USB drive
i have installed Ubuntu 18, and have a USB drive attached . I want to share that drive on my home network on Win 10 PCs
I have set the sharing on local network, and can see the drive on my win 10 PC but when i try to open it i get an error saying I do not have permission. this only happens on a USB drive, if I share a folder on my internal HDD it works fine
what am I doing wrong?

Asus AC53 network adapter driver
Hi all,
I'm currently trying to connect to the 5ghz network using an Asus AC53 USB adapter. I installed the driver as explained here https://github.com/jeremyb31/rtl8822bu without any issues, but I still fail to connect to 5ghz, even though this frequency seems to be available as you can see through the output of "iwlist wlan0 freq":
I also ran the script requested in this post: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=370108
And the output can be seen here: https://pastebin.com/uevduBZt
As you can see in the output I also tried installing the driver 88x2bu.
I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 with kernel 4.15. When I installed Ubuntu in this computer (Thinkpad E470) I had quite some trouble being able to connect to the WIFI as I had to manually install the driver rtl8821ce. Now after installing the rtl8822bu driver, it appears in the menu a new option: "USB wi-fi" but when I selected the 5GHz network it fails to connect and I have to reboot to be able to connect to the 2GHz network again.
Any ideas about how I could solve this issue are highly appreciated :)

[ubuntu] Question on a company whos hacking people
Hi everyone, My background is in computers. I'm new to Ubuntu and new to the community. Unfortunately I have a strange question about a company. Any assistance would be appreciated. I'm hoping you network guys can shed some light, was I hacked or is this a new method of the internet working in is topology??????
After install and using Ubuntu for a few months now, I began having network problems with slow internet connections, etc.
I began checking do speed test and checking my router. I did ping tests and discovered my lan ip address to my systems internally was not pinging back with my lan ip address's and was being replaced by
PING franco-ubuntu.belgan (23.217.138.107) 56(84) bytes of data.
64 bytes from ubuntu.belgan (23.217.138.107): icmp_seq=1 ttl=45 time=108 ms

64 bytes from ubuntu.belgan (23.217.138.107): icmp_seq=4 ttl=45 time=102 ms
Instead of:

I checked into the company and I'm very suspicious. Any ideas? Or do I need to provide more information.
Thanks

[ubuntu] Can't connect to Internet from Ubuntu Server 18.04
I'm testing Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS in VMware and i have Windows 7 as Host.
I created a FTP Server in Ubuntu, and it works well. I can access it from Host using a Browser, typing: ftp://192.168.160.10
The problem is that i can't connect to the Internet from Ubuntu Server!!!
I leave the specs here:
Ubuntu Server Network Adapter (in VMware Workstation) => VMnet 8 (NAT)
IP Static: 192.168.160.10/24

[ubuntu] AX200 on Jetson Nano - iwconfig says "no wireless extensions"
The needful pastebin is here.
This is an odd corner case which may or may not be relevant. I've got an Intel AX200 on the Jetson Nano, and I compiled the core 45 release of the iwlwifi driver as follows:
And the card does work. iw commands see it, and I was able to somewhat get it in monitor mode. Definitely was able to pass traffic with it.
However, iwconfig can't talk to it. It says "no wireless extensions" and I'm not sure why or what to troubleshoot. (I'm trying to get Kismet working, and I suspect/wonder if this issue is why Kismet is unhappy.)
Does it look like I've done anything obviously wrong?

Still Trying to Diagnose Laggy Netwrok Connection 6 Months
I posted on this issue before about six months ago or so - https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2404177 - At the time, I thought I had found the problem. I found two devices trying to share one IP address. Apparently, that was not the issue.
To recap... Back on 16.04, everything network related worked fine. As soon as I migrated to 18.04, I began having issues accessing network shares through this laptop. Nothing changed on the computer hosting the shares, and all other systems are still able to access the shares with no problem.
The problem exhibits differently at different times.
These are just a few of the issues that I can think of right now. I'm sure there are more symptoms.
I am mounting the shares via autofs, but I have also tried mounting them via fstab. The method(s) I am mounting these shares has not changed since I migrated to 18.04 - at least not that I'm aware of.
The shares are, now, being hosted on two external USB drives connected to a raspberry pi running rasbian with samba installed and setup as a server. I was having this exact same issue, though, before moving the files to the pi. The files were on one of the same external USB drives and an internal drive connected to a desktop running Ubuntu 16.04 with samba installed and setup as a server.
If ANYONE could help me with this, I will provide any logs or information that you need. This is just driving me more bonkers than I already was!

The problem exhibits differently at different times.
- Sometimes, you can pull up a video file from one of the shares and it'll play fine. Other times, if you try to play that same file (or any other file) it takes the program (usually vlc) 30 seconds to a minute to begin playback. Once it begins, it plays fine. When this happens, you can try to reopen that same file with Videos and it may play fine or it might have the same delay.
- Almost every time that I try to open an archive file on a share, archive manager will start up , but it takes over a minute for the file to finally open.
- If I try to add files to an archive that is stored on a share, it will tell you that the operation completed successfully, but when you reopen that archive, it's been corrupted.
- (I knoew I would think of something else)... When I try to transfer a file to or from one of the network shares from this laptop, it will take 30 seconds or more for each file being transferred to begin.
These are just a few of the issues that I can think of right now. I'm sure there are more symptoms.

[ubuntu] Intel 7260 Wireless RFKILL Hard
I have a Stinger R6 cart (medical) that we are trying to run Ubuntu on to make it into a thin client. We have tried several flavors of Ubuntu including the vanilla distribution and they all work fine with wired networking, but not wireless. It appears that something is setting the driver to think that there is a hardware switch putting the wireless into airplane mode. We have literally taken apart this unit and cannot find any switches, jumpers or UEFI/BIOS settings that would control the wireless. Also the keyboard is a standard USB keyboard with no FN wireless keys. Other posts have suggested running the following command:
Unfortunately, even after chmod to 777 we get an access denied message.
I've run the wireless-info script and the results are at http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/PFHg6Kdfbm/
The same equipment works fine under Windows 7 and Windows 10 with the standard Intel drivers.
Thanks for any help you can provide.

[ubuntu] OpenVPN connection issues
Hi all,
I'm currently working on my first project with Linux setting up a VPN server on the Microsoft Azure cloud. I've gotten as far as fully configuring the server and clients with a tutorial, but then the tutorial ended and the training wheels fell off lol. I've gotten a client to connect to the server successfully after much trial and error, but I cannot get that client to connect to the internet through the server. I'd usually try to troubleshoot my way through it, and I have messed around with network configurations and the server's firewall, but this is just such a vague and seemingly complicated issue I think it's time to swallow my pride and ask for help.
The server is running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS, and I've connected with both an Ubuntu and a Windows machine.
Could anybody give me any networking advice, or any advice as to what the most likely issues are?
Please let me know if there is any additional information I should add here lol.
Thanks for your time!

new ubuntu user - need help with WiFI problems
I have just installed Ubuntu 19.04 onto my Dell XPS-8500 today and I'm having a lot of issues with the WiFI. Everything else is running great. I have an upgraded WiFi card in my desktop and it's a Realtek 8821AE 802.11ac card. My WiFi just runs super slow when connected to the 2.4ghz channel and doesn't work at all on the 5ghz. It connects, but it won't do anything. I have tried finding a solution to this problem, but as I'm new to Linux, I'm having a lot of trouble. If anyone would be willing to help me out here, I sure would appreciate it!
EDIT - I have already tried pulling the latest drivers from the site below. It actually made the problem worse. And i'm having another problem. I thought I had this fixed by switching the monitors, but sometimes when I reboot my system it acts like it's going to boot into Ubuntu and then it boots to a black screen.

[other] AC1200 Archer T4UH freezes the OS
I have followed the instructions listed in https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2340769.
This successfully allows the wireless adapter to be recognized, however when I try to connect to a network it will either fail to connect, or alternatively the whole system will hang and require a reboot.
Extremely rarely and in ways I have not been able to reproduce, it will sometimes successfully connect to a network, but not allow me to switch to any other network.
My suspicions point me towards some sort of driver issue, potentially a conflicting one? But I know too little about this to be sure.
I would greatly appreciate any assistance with this issue!

unable to write to samba share from windows 10
I've set ubuntu 19.04 up on my laptop and I followed this guide to install SAMBA (4.0.10 I think) as I want to share files locally between my Mac and PC.
I have created a shared folder called "sambashare" and on Windows 10 I have added a network location for sambashare (laptop-ip/sambashare).
I now see the network location "samba" in "This PC". I logged in with the username and password I set for samba.
It opens the folder when I click it but when I try to create a folder it says I need permission.
Does anyone know what I might've done wrong here?
Appreciate any help, thanks!

802.11ac limited to 430Mbps right next to router?
Hi,
I have the Dell Inspiron 11 3000 (running ubuntu 19.04) which supposedly has 802.11ac wireless. It's connected to the 5GHz network but the link speed is only 430Mbps however I was thinking it'd be closer to 800Mbps. I'm using it to transfer files over the local network so the faster the better.
Does anyone know why this might be? The wifi card is apparently the "Intel Corporation 3160 rev 83". Should I install drivers for it? I visited the Software Update app and it didn't say there were any additional drivers that needed downloading. Is this necessary?
Or perhaps there are some power saving settings in ubuntu by default that I'm not aware of?
The router is an 802.11ac router.
Appreciate any input.
EDIT: Well that was quick. Found an Intel page noting that the limit for this is 433Mbps so this is normal.

[lubuntu] Intel 3945ABG Wireless Not Working On Lubuntu 18.04.3 LTS
Hey there,
I am unable to get my Intel 3945ABG Wireless card working on Lubuntu 18.04.3 LTS with the latest updates installed.
My install is a fresh install - I did not change anything related to networking.
My device is a Medion MD96350 (WIM 2140) Notebook PC, if that's helpful.
I followed the instructions before posting an ran the wireless info script. Its output can be found here.
The network manager GUI in the bottom right corner displays a message like "Device is not ready" in the wireless networking section.
Can anyone help me with this?
Help is very appreciated.
