[ubuntu] No wi-fi adapter found...what to do?

Hi,

I recently installed Ubuntu 18.04 alongside Windows 10 (dual-booting) on an HP Pavilion 590 desktop. I can access the wi-fi just fine when I boot into Windows, but in Ubuntu it says that no wi-fi adapter was found.

I have this wireless adapter (which I've read many forum posts about):
02:00.0 Network controller [0280]: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd. RTL8821CE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter [10ec:c821]

The answer I see being linked a lot is here: https://askubuntu.com/questions/1071...n-ubuntu-18-04
However I can't connect to the internet via Ethernet either, so I can't install dkms using apt-get. (Is there another way?)

Another solution I've seen is to get the Panda wi-fi adapter mentioned in this post: https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread....3#post13840273
However on the Amazon page it explicitly says it won't work on the 5 GHz band, which is what the routers use (I can't change this).

Any ideas on what I should do? Any help is greatly appreciated.

Thanks,
Jim
