but even after doing everything and rebooting the system adapter doesn't seem working.

Description: Ubuntu 18.04.3 LTS

The adapter is named as
TP-Link Archer T2U AC600 Wireless Wi-Fi Dual Band USB Adapter on Amazon.

after trying multiple askubuntu posts and articles and getting frustrated on tplink for not providing good support for this! I decided to post here for help.
Its disheartening why the official website has video guide for windows and mac but not for linux.

[ubuntu] Does not recognize the WiFi controller on my laptop

I am trying out Ubuntu 19 on an Acer Aspire V5-471 laptop but it does not recognize the WiFi controller on it. Under windows it recognizes both the 2,4GHz and 5GHz channels, on Ubuntu it does not recognize the WiFi hardware. Using the ethernet adapter is cumbersome. What do I need to do to get WiFi working on this. According to the Acer page it is a Broadcom or Atheros, I do not know for sure

Hi
Looking fo help to correctly setup killswitch after I disconnect from nordvpn (linux app) ( for example if manually disconnected and forget about it or switching to different location etc. becouse killswitch dosn't work in that case/time)
Buildin "killswitch" automatically stops all internet traffic while the VPN connection suddenly fails But it doesn't work if you disconnected manually or connecting to next location (in linux).
While connected with vpn , nordvpn diable my ufw and seting own firewall (but for a time it's connected)

Generally the only way to connect internet must be through nordvpn.

How to do it?
Looking for guide how to do it properly

[ubuntu] 18.04 Wireless connected but no internet access

I am using ubuntu 18.04 and I've been trying to connect to wifi (on RT5572 wireless adapter (which works on windows(dual boot))) by using the threads posted here but the problem still persists. The wireless icon shows up (indicating its signal strength) but when I get into browser, it doesn't get me to any websites (currently I am in China, so google.com won't work here so I tried some websites that work in China). I have ran wireless-info on my system and I attached it here. I can't use ethernet because apparently my office's router is 100MB network and the ethernet adapter I'm having has 10GB network (I don't really understand this but that's what some technician told me - ethernet doesn't work in windows too (dual boot)). Please have a look at my attached file and hopefully get my wireless to work. Thank you!

[xubuntu] Old pc: installing usrobotics pcmcia USR5410 wireless card driver

Hi,
This old notebook, a Toshiba Satellite L30-10T, has a built in wireless card that makes many versions of linux crash.
To solve this, I've bought an used usrobotics pcmcia USR5410 wireless card.

According to the manufacturer website, there were once official linux drivers (that's why I bought it in the first place) https://support.usr.com/support/prod....asp?prod=5410
I can't find those drivers anymore, so I tried googling and I found this guide http://www.houseofcraig.net/acx100_howto.php that explains how to build them from source.

I'm trying following the guide, but during compiling I get stuck to
Code:

sudo make
Kernel version file: /lib/modules/5.0.0-32-generic/build/include/linux/version.h
Kernel configuration file: /lib/modules/5.0.0-32-generic/build/.config
Make damn sure these really match your currently running kernel!!

grep: /lib/modules/5.0.0-32-generic/build/include/linux/version.h: File o directory non esistente

All of the following items are required by the driver:

vnc issue

I have an issue with one of our library computers running xubuntu 18.04. I can access the admin account (librarian) via vnc when that account is logged in but I can't connect to the non admin account (darcy) when that account is logged in. I have uninstalled and reinstalled all of the vnc software. I need to log in the the user account to do live remote help. When I try to access the user account it says failed to connect to server. The admin account connects perfectly. The ufw ihas the correct ports open. On that particular computer desktop sharing is not listing as an option in setting manager-session and startup-application autostart and I can't see how to add it. I do have everything set up correctly in dconf editor. Is there anything else to try?

I installed Ubuntu 18.04 alongside Windows 10 Pro on my Dell Vostro 1320. The wifi settings show "no wifi adapter found". I have spent several hours trying to install various drivers to see if I could get on to work to no avail. I am posting the results of script that I found on another page that helps run a thorough diagnosis.

You help is greatly appreciated.

Realtek 8811cu driver

Hi,

I have a generic Chinese USB WiFi dongle with rtl8811cu chipset. I searched some discussions and guides and found out that this driver should work for me: https://github.com/brektrou/rtl8821CU

I followed the steps and compiled and installed the driver (using the DKMS method). The driver is now installed but I still can not use the WiFi in network manager. What could be wrong? What should I do to identify and fix the problem?

Also the driver name says 9921CU but my dongle is 8811CU, so I'm not sure if I don't have to change something. But the readme doesn't mention anything regarding this.

Thank you.

Wifi trouble after sleep since 19.10 upgrade

After I upgraded my 19.04 install to 19.10 at my hp zbook 14 g2 i7-5500U the wifi stops working after a sleeping for some time, (~30 sec sleep seems to not trigger this but 30min does). The network manager can still list the networks even though it seems a bit unstable, but cannot connect properly to a network until I reboot, logout-login does not help.

restarting nwm won't help:

Streaming problems with UBUNTU 19.10

I like to stream music from my desktop to my SONOS sound system and also to stream video and pictures to my Panasonic TV. This ceased to be possible with Ubuntu versions 17.04, 17.10, 18.04, 18.10 but with the installation of 19.04 functionality was restored. However, with the 19.10 upgrade things aren’t working anymore. I checked the SAMBA config file and that seems the same as 19.04. I have switched on the new sharing settings in Settings.
I would appreciate any other suggestions!

[ubuntu] KVM VM IP address same as physical NIC IP address?

Hi all,

If I have a KVM VM instance running on an IP Address, and this VM runs through a dedicated physical NIC using passthrough, should the IP Address of the Physical NIC be the same as the VM IP address?

I can't find anything in the KVM online documentation concerning this, using the passthrough function.

[SOLVED] No wifi adapter found error

I've just downloaded ubuntu 18.04 and installed it on my Notebook HP stream. On this PC was installed windows 10 and wifi worked fine. During the installation of Ubuntu I couldn't click on the option "install third party..." (I don't remeber exactly but it was about drivers) but i don't know if it affected in someway the results. Now I get the error "No wifi adapter found" and I can't see wifi networks. I know that there are a lot of threads on that and I've been watching them for 2 days. I didn't find anything helpful.
Thank you for your help

CIFS mounted NAS, waking every 15 minutes after 19.10 upgrade

$

Hi! First post, so hopefully I'm posting in the right place.

I've got a Western Digital NAS drive mounted to a server running Ubuntu 19.10, which i've recently upgraded from 19.04.

The NAS drive runs a standard desktop hard drive (rather than anything rated for 24/7 run time), and because of this, is factory set to go into standby after 10 minutes of inactivity.

This worked fine in 19.04 Cosmic (and 18.10 Disco), and would only spin up when I wanted to access something on the drive.

Since the upgrade, my NAS drive wakes up every 15 minutes, and I can't seem to figure out why that is.

Drive is mounted using in fstab;

Code:

//192.168.1.150/Drive /home/user/drive cifs username=username,password=username,_netdev,uid=user,vers=2.0 0 0
I turned the Samba debug level up, and took this from the NAS log;

Code:

[2019/11/03 17:06:59.026977,  1] smbd/server.c:300(remove_child_pid)

[2019/11/03 17:06:59.040943,  1] smbd/service.c:1081(make_connection_snum)
  (192.168.1.150) connect to service Drive initially as user user (uid=1000, gid=1000) (pid 27187)

  Closing idle connection
[2019/11/03 17:21:59.665862,  1] smbd/service.c:1345(close_cnum)
  (192.168.1.150) closed connection to service Drive
[2019/11/03 17:21:59.676456,  1] smbd/server.c:300(remove_child_pid)
  Scheduled cleanup of brl and lock database after unclean shutdown
[2019/11/03 17:21:59.684930,  2] auth/auth.c:309(check_ntlm_password)
  check_ntlm_password:  authentication for user [user] -> [user] -> [user] succeeded

  (192.168.1.150) closed connection to service Drive

And the thing just constantly repeats. Drive sleeps after 10 minutes of inactivity, then after 5 minutes wakes back up. Thinking it's going to eventually kill the drive.

I tried this with clean installs of 19.04 and 19.10, and it's the same. No issue at all with 19.04, but waking every 15 minutes on 19.10. As soon as the "closed connection to service," log notification comes up, it attempts to remount instantly, spinning up the drive.

Not sure if it matters, but the NAS runs a pretty old version of Samba, so SMB2 is the highest supported.

Wondered if some default has changed in the way Eoan mounts, and that I need to add an additional option to the fstab entry, to stop it remounting every 15 minutes?

Grasping at straws, I also tried to downgrade the, "Mount" package to an older version from 19.04, but then it wouldn't boot.... Not an ideal solution, even if it worked.

Is there a log file for what the samba client is doing? I had a browse though the syslog, but nothing stood out as relevant for this.

Thought i'd run it past you guys, before I start to rebuild everything on a clean LTS release... Which i'd rather avoid doing. :p Cheers!

[ubuntu] Wifi goes detected and undetected alternately

Just a few days ago, my wifi was working just fine but somehow, wifi starts to get detected and undetected alternately. This change from detected to undetected is in a matter of a second or less. I didn't tinker with anything though. I just installed OpenFOAM and ran a stiff chemistry simulation, that's why I didn't bother on fixing it instantly. (though now it is troubling me). This is the wireless-info file: wireless-info.txt.

// Update

The wifi adapter is detected but it's just at the notification as "Wifi Off" and I can't toggle to on.

[ubuntu] Can't start Ubuntu after install a new router. DHCP / runlevel problem

$

I changed my router and now I can't start my Ubuntu. It seems to be a DHCP problem.

First of all, I can't understand the OS not being able to startup without internet connection.
I must be something that I added to the bootstrap in the wrong runlevel, and it's requiring Internet connection to continue bootstrap.

I removed two homebrew scripts during the bootstrap that caused a infinite loop due to the lack of Internet access.

Now, it still hangs saying nothing. Perhaps it's trying to mount a smb folder in the wrong runlevel, or something.

I started the root console and journal -b -1 says only this:

Code:

        -- Logs begin at mié 2019-11-06 06:50:02 CET, end at mié 2019-11-06 07:07:22 CET. --

        nov 06 06:50:02 ComputerName dnsmasq[1575]: using nameserver 62.81.29.254#53(via enp5s0)

And this is my dhclient.conf:

option rfc3442-classless-static-routes code 121 = array of unsigned integer 8;

Code:

        send host-name = gethostname();
        request subnet-mask, broadcast-address, time-offset, routers,
                domain-name, domain-name-servers, domain-search, host-name,
                dhcp6.name-servers, dhcp6.domain-search, dhcp6.fqdn, dhcp6.sntp-servers,
                netbios-name-servers, netbios-scope, interface-mtu,
                rfc3442-classless-static-routes, ntp-servers;

        timeout 300;

I'd like my Ubuntu to start without Internet connection. Or as a workaround, to solve the problem with the router.

In the router side, I change the net to 192.168.1.xxx, in order my computer can get its static IP.
The router can see the computer, and says it has given my computer its static IP.

Any help will be wellcome
