Ubuntu 19.10: Lenovo Ideapad Flex 14 Intel 9560 - Adapter not found

$

Hi,
I just dual-boot my new Lenovo laptop.
While installing Ubuntu-19.10 the Wi-Fi was working. However, when I am using Ubuntu, it says the Wi-Fi adapter not found.
Somehow, when I boot Ubuntu from Advanced options to an old kernel, the Wifi works.

Can someone please suggest something?
My earphones are not working too.

I saw some steps online. But, they require Ethernet jack or adapter. I don't have both.

[ubuntu_mate] Problem with cetain web pages when connected to my LTE wifi mobile router

Hello everybody,

I have a strange problem with my mobile LTE wifi router. When I connect to it, most of the times some URLS are not reachable and I keep getting an error similar to 'the ... page has not been found". If I use a VPN connection such as the one included in Opera browser or TOR everything works.

It's not a problem of browsing policy, as even 'neutral' domains Ubuntu servers are not reachable,

What's even stranger to me is that, after a while that I am connected, everything starts working normally again.

It might look like a DNS or routing problem, I'm not sure.

Any ideas or suggestions? :)

[ubuntu] Port forwarding when using Wi-Fi hotspot

$

Hello,

I'd like to know how to do port forwarding when when using a Ubuntu 18.04 LTS desktop as a Wi-Fi hotspot. If using a typical, physical router, I can access to the router by typing its local IP address (e.g., https://192.xxx.xxx.xxx) on a web browser. Because I'm using the Wi-Fi hotspot function, however, it seems like I cannot access to the 'virtual' router. Then how can I do port forwarding?

I know I could use something like 'iptables' for port forwarding but the thing is a little tricky. My Ubuntu desktop is located in a local area network (LAN) at an institution, which has a global IP address (e.g., 210.xxx.xxx.xxx). So, my desktop has a local IP address (e.g., 192.xxx.xxx.xxx) within the LAN as well as another local IP address (e.g., 10.xxx.xxx.xxx) for the Wi-Fi hotspot's 'virtual' router mentioned above. I have all of these IP addresses but, because I cannot access the 'virtual' router, I don't know what to type in when using 'iptables'.

Basically I am trying to access to an IP camera over the Internet. So I know I need to port forward to the 554 port (RTSP) on the router.

Related to this, I'd like to know about UPnP, which seems to take care of the above task automatically, if someone knows about it.

Thanks in advance.

[ubuntu] Router denies my connection with correct PASS Archer T4U V3

Hello everyone, few day ago I bought an TP-Link Archer T4U V3 for use by Ubuntu 18.04 Platform.

I had a few problems with a drivers but I got it right fortunetly after few hours of battle. My card is now visible in the system. My problem is that I can not connect to my Wireless home net (both 2.4 and 5 GHz), more over it's not even possible to connect to my smartphone hotspot.

It looks like net denies password and requests for another one after few seconds. I'd be grateful for any tips.

Thanks!

Hello,

I was using Ubuntu 18.04.3 and no problem with my Linksys WUSB6300 usb wifi.

However, after I upgraded my system, my wifi is gone. I tried to install different drivers I found in github but no luck. So I hope someone here can help me.

My system is updated.

All the infos I got from the script here:

[ubuntu] lxdbr0 and wlan0 hotspot with the same DHCP Server

$

Hello everyone,
In my Raspberry (ubuntu server 18.04) I have configured a Wifi Hotspot, which provides network access to computers and cell phones at home. I have also configured LXD with a Btrfs Raid1 on two USB Drives. Containers are located in that Raid1. All good up to this point.

What I am trying to configure now is that the lxdbr0 bridge and the wlan0 interface have the same DHCP Server, in order to have both the containers and the rest of the home computers on the same subnet. Is this possible? How can I do it?

I inserted an image with the network diagram as currently.

[ubuntu] Wireless networks out of range after access point setup, please help

Hi,

I have been struggling with this problem. My goal is set up my Jetson TX2, ubuntu 18.04, as an access point so I can remotely login using ssh. After setting up an access point, I would then turn off hotspot so I can re-connect to wireless internet, but none of the wireless networks show up anymore although I know they are there. I have tried everything I can find online regarding this but I have had no luck. First time I just re-flashed the Jetson and things were fine again, but after trying again same problem surfaced. I really would like to understand and fix this. I have attached a text file with all relevant wireless information using this.

When I try to connect to wifi, the settings say NO Wi-FI adapter found, make sure you have a wifi adapter plugged and turned on. How do I connect to my wifi, because I know there is wifi in my house?

Hey,
I'm new to Ubuntu, I really appreciate your help.

The hardware is plugged in properly, but when I go to "Wi-Fi", I get no wifi adapter found notification.

https://pastebin.com/yjasB3vK (followed instructions from "Before posting in Networking & Wireless")

I tried this advice because it seems like this person faced a similar problem, it didn't solve my problem (https://www.linuxquestions.org/quest...-4175619526/):

1) Go to https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_...rmware/rtlwifi
2) Download rtl8812aefw.bin and rtl8812aefw_wowlan.bin
3) Copy both files to /lib/firmware/rtlwifi
4) Restart computer

Thank you for your help.

[kubuntu] Droping A2DP - 0a5c:217f Broadcom Corp. BCM2045B (BDC-2.1).

$

Hello,

I have an issue that is apparently exactly identical to this problem over at the archlinux.org forums, only I'm on Kubuntu 18.04 LTS.

Short version:

- Bluetooth adapter as reported by lsusb is: 0a5c:217f Broadcom Corp. BCM2045B (BDC-2.1)
- System abruptly drops A2DP SBC audio every 10-20 mins, but still thinks all is good.
- Media keys on the headset resurrect the audio if pressed reasonably soon after the drop.
- Failing that, turning the headset off and on causes it to reconnect, and we go back to the start.
- Even with everything even remotely resembling power saving/autosuspend disabled, the problem still persists.
- There is basically nothing in the logs to post, system thinks everything is fine. (This screams FW to me)

I'm wondering what the latest word is on this? Does this sound familiar to anyone? Is there anyone here that can help? Is there a more proper place to bring this to get attention? Where do I file a bug report? (inb4: Just buy a new adapter. :/)

More info:
The only apparent differences with the above thread and my situation are that I'm on Kubuntu 18.04 LTS, and I'm on a ThinkPad Edge e520, not a T420 (though, by my inspection, they are very similar). Based on the fact that I am having this same issue on Kubuntu and not Arch, I think it's safe to rule out a distro specific issue. Even so, I'm here now as it's the place for the distro I'm using. As for another key point, I tried some PPA's for different pulseaudio versions/builds and that changed basically nothing. I feel this is reasonable enough to support elimination of pulseaudio as the suspect, though I concede this could easily prove to be premature. If anyone knows a more conclusively way to eliminate pulseaudio, please do let me know.

I more or less suspect it's kernelmod/firmware issue. I think the most obvious clue here is the Bluetooth dongle. Aside from the fact that it's broadcom (which is known for being trash fire tier) these specific units are pretty much exclusive to ThinkPads of this same generation as far as I know. Both the other people with this problem also have ThinkPads of similar era, and the OP in that thread has the exact same Vid/Pid as I do. So I think that is the lowest common factor.

Now, to be honest, I *DO* have an external USB dongle, and it is much more well behaved. However believe it or not it also has almost the same problem, only it takes quite a bit longer for it to happen. It is, unfortunately, also a broadcom chipset, so it doesn't much help to rule out broadcom firmware. It does, however, bring up an interesting point about possible related bugs and a link in the chain of possibly fixing more than one. Lastly, it's just plain annoying as hell to have a USB port tied up on my already lacking laptop, so I would like to have the built in unit working. Though that last part is small potatoes frankly.

That all being said, if there is any community interest in fixing this I can certainly help do some tests. One thing I thought would probably be a good thing to figure out is the exact frequency that this happens. This could prove useful if there is a precise timing pattern to this. Another thing I figure could be tried is keeping the mouse moving, to see if it has something to do with inactivity, which may further relate this to a power saving issue, albeit tangentially. In the linked thread, someone suggested WiFi interference, and I would like to eliminate that as a possibility. Unfortunately, this laptop has a $#!77y whitelist, of course, so I can't simply install a 5.8Ghz unit. I may just bite the bullet and take out the WiFi card for a day or so, and see if that changes anything.

All in all, could be a fun bug hunt. Though, to be honest, I'm really not interested in doing this if it's all by myself. I'm also mostly hoping for a miracle, and that someone just happens to already have a fix for this. :Fingers crossed:

Thanks for your assistance.

Accessing Ubuntu shared folders and drives from MacOS with NFS

$

After having managed to setup a share on Ubuntu LTS 18.04 (using the GUI command "Local Network Share") and having found that shared folder by just browsing to the Ubuntu server machine on my Mac Min (running High Sierra), I was able to assess that I opened a Guest access on Ubuntu, yet the Guest access seemed to work - I was able to copy a file from my Mac to my Ubuntu, modify the file saved on Ubuntu using an app on my Mac... everything proved to work correctly.

Today I added 2 new USB drives, called Storage 1 and Storage 2. I tried sharing these the same way I did my Ubuntu Downloads folder. Didn't work at all. Somehow the Mac sees the name of the share being broadcast, but when I browse to the drive and double click to open, I get an error message on the Mac saying that I tried accessing the drive but it wasn't there anymore (well... close enough)

The username on my Mac is my full name. It's associated to my email address (as with most Apple products), but it's not using the same USERNAME as on my Ubuntu, hence the problem I believe. Should I try to create a new user on Ubuntu? What should I name it? how do I do this, from GUI or Terminal? Can anyone point to a step-by-step guide that has worked for you guys?

I've looked in this forum AND I've scoured the web for this info, but everyone's got their own perspective on things. I can't find the proper info I'm looking for.

Pretty much, this is the lowdown: I run Ubuntu remotely. I have it hooked up to my TV but I access it through TeamViewer. I need to download files using my Mac, save the files on the Ubuntu, and run conversion jobs from the Mac on the files stored in Ubuntu (on the USB drives). So I know I need read-write permissions, but ownership is weird - I would need to have Ubuntu Share the ownership of all the files. Any way to set that up?

Hi there! I'm new to the Linux community after using my free time this quarantine going distro hopping for the past couple of weeks. I decided on Ubuntu as it seems really polished and beginner-friendly. After dual-booting it with Windows 10 and finishing my setup, I noticed this while updating my drivers:

I got the same issue when I tried out Mint. WiFI and Bluetooth seem to work fine, though. How should I proceed from this? Thanks to anyone who will help! :)

[ubuntu] 18.04 TAP VPN with Network Manager

I am trying to use nm-openvpn to connect to a Netgear router openvpn style VPN that requires tap and having no luck. I have seen other answers that suggest using tap in Ubuntu is tricky, but I can't think that no one has got this working through network manager.

Is there a trick to using tap this way?

I am noticing even though a tap style adapter is specified, the log suggests it is treating it as a tun style adapter.

Any hints?

WiFi Indicator Turns To Question Mark - But Still Works?

$

The WiFi indicator up top (panel? what do you call it in Ubuntu? I'm used to Linux Mint) turns into a question mark, but the WiFi connection continues to work.

If you drill down into settings, the network still shows connected without the ?.

Not a huge deal, of course, as the connection still works. I'm just wondering what is going on.

WiFiStillEnabled.png

This is in 20.04, though I have no idea if previous versions of Ubuntu had this problem.
