NFS autofs freezes client after a while

$

Hello,

I use NFS to connect to my server. When accessing from client 1, the client gets slower file access after a while and the sometimes it freezes completely. After a reboot everything seems fine again. On client 2 everything is fine.

Server: Debian GNU/Linux 9.12 (stretch)
in /etc/exports
Code:

/mnt/md0/chris  10.0.0.0/24(rw,sync,no_subtree_check)

Client 1: Linux Mint 19.3 Tricia (Ubuntu Bionic)
Client 2: Linux Mint 19 Tara (Ubuntu Bionic)
both use autofs to connect to the NFS share
in /etc/auto.master
Code:

/net    -hosts    --timeout=60

Code:

root@client1:~# cat /var/log/syslog | grep -i automount
Apr 19 21:29:21 client1 kernel: [    4.001453] systemd[1]: Set up automount Arbitrary Executable File Formats File System Automount Point.
Apr 19 21:29:27 client1 systemd[1]: Starting Automounts filesystems on demand...
Apr 19 21:29:27 client1 systemd[1]: Started Automounts filesystems on demand.

do you have any hint what could be wrong here, or where to look?

Thanks, Chris

Can't find my wireless device on Dell Latitude e6520

I got this older labtop and installed Ubuntu. During install, the wireless device is detected. I even got it to work once from the install menu.

Once installed, I have no wireless and it doesn't show up in lspci. I figure it is just a matter of installing the right driver/firmware, but I have not had any luck with search engines.

The wireless-info.txt is here:

USB dongle recommendations for Ubuntu and Ubuntu-based distros?

$

Hi all - this should be an easy one!

I just set up a Linux desktop PC for a family friend who bought it as a second computer and wants to set it up in a room away from his router, so he won't be able to hardwire it via ethernet to his router.

Does anybody have suggestions for a cheap USB WiFi dongle that works plug-and-play with Linux (preferably Ubuntu or Linux Mint?, from Amazon or elsewhere (and would preferably also work plug-and-play with Windows10 as well as his other computer runs Windows 10 and he may swap their locations in the future)?

All suggestions are welcome, so certainly point out any at all that you are aware of, but one caveat though - he would PREFER one that has a detachable antenna, like this sort of thing:
...reason being is that he mentioned he may move it to the workshop in his heated/wired garage to use there as he works at some point and the antenna that comes with it may not be strong enough to get a signal from the WiFi in his house, so one with a detachable antenna like this would let him buy a better separate antenna to plug in to increase the signal strength.

Thanks for any suggestions! :D

I installed kubuntu 20.04 and cannot get my wifi to work. My laptop uses BCM43142 adapter and as usual I installed the bcmwl-kernel-source package.
The install process completed successfully but their was an fatal error(mentioned in the title) in the process. I restarted my system and wifi still didn't worked. I did a manual modprobe wl and it still can't be found. My kernel version is 5.4.0-24-lowlatency(default in kubuntu 20.04). Is the broadcom driver incompatible for this kernel?

[ubuntu] IPv6 Stops communication frequently

Hi All,

I am seeing one issue related to isc-dhcp-server6. It stops communication to UBR10k cmts even though both are on same IPv6 Local network.

1. Ubuntu 18.04.4 LTS
2. Isc-dhcp-server application
3. IP configuration is give on interfaces with same ethernet has assigned IPv4 and IPv6
4. CMTS ubr10k has Gigabit ethernet interface has both IP on same interface.
5. Both systems are communication are connected through Switch on same network.

I tried to look on Networking Module and NetworkManager. I do not see error log. The solution if this issue when I do up down and UP interface through ifconfig eth0 down/Up. It starts working fine.
I am having only IPv communication where IPv5 working fine and never have any issue.

If anybody have any idea, appreciate it. I tried my best and could not find any clue. I do not have any idea where issue is from CMTS or isc-dhcp-server or Network Module. Please let me know

Thanks.

Fix for flaky Intel N-6205 Wifi (wlp3s0) in 20.04 Focal

I had been using Ubuntu 18.04 for a long time on a first gen carbon X1 and the wifi was rock stable with it and Windows 10, and also with my initial install of 20.04, but during the last few updates, it would cut in and out and be really slow at times. With 5.4.0-26-generic and this added to a file created in /etc/modprobe.d/iwlwifi-opt.conf:

Code:

options iwlwifi 11n_disable=8 swcrypto=1 bt_coex_active=0 power_save=0 bt_coex_active=0 11n_disable=1
The posts I found these options in varied and suggested I just needed to modprobe -r and modprobe the module, but only a reboot fixed it.

It seems solid now. Oddly, one would think that 11n_disable=8 and 11n_disable=1 both would not be necessary, but if I take either or both out, my connection experience is terrible.

Problems entering the password

Hi,

I'm new to Ubuntu. Every time I access Ubuntu and I go online I have to re-enter the password. It's very frustrating. Is there a way to get around or to solve this?

Thank you very much for your kind help.

Bluetooth inactivity timeout making input devices unusable

$

Hi, fellow Linux lovers....

I'm seeing Bluetooth issues after a short time (around 20 - 30 seconds). The mouse (HP X4000B) and Keyboard (Logitech K780) seem to disconnect from the computer, and take 2 -3 seconds to reconnect. The mouse has to be moved around for 2 -3 seconds before the cursor starts following it, and often that means mouse clicks are seen in the wrong place. They keyboard takes the same time to reappear, and often the first character typed is lost. This renders both devices almost useless - you can't see if your password has a character missing, for instance. I've tried all the usual advice, such as modifying the /etc/bluetooth/*.conf files after making sure all drivers, etc, are up to date, restarting the bluetooth service...nothing works. Often, but not always, the Bluetooth manager in KDE strts to show that no device was detected after a while.
I'm a long term Linux user and developer since 2001, and pretty adept at many things Linux, but this is stumping me....any and all suggestions gratefully received

Machine is an 8 core (16 HT) AMD Ryzen box with 16G RAM and a 1T SSD. I dual boot it with windows 10, and Bluetooth works just fine there, so same hardware.

[SOLVED] Problems with Netplan yaml configure file doesn't enable ethernet device

$

Hi everybody,

I configured netplan yesterday, and the changes seemed to be persistent across reboots. Yet today, it doens't seem to work.

When running
Code:

sudo lshw -c network
Ethernet device appears disabled.

Here's my yaml configuration file;
Code:

network:

    ethernets:

      enp2sO:

        addresses: []
        dhcp4: true

    version: 2

I generated and applied the yaml configuration file multple times using :
Code:

sudo netplan generate
Code:

sudo netplan apply
I have to run after each reboot :
Code:

sudo dhclient enp2s0
Any ideas as to what should I do ?

Ubuntu 20.04 not using first DNS Server listed, 18.04 however does.

$

So I have installed 20.04LTS works, but it is not using the first (internal DNS) first, while 18.04LTS does so. hence my overrides for testing are being ignored

Code:

root@ubuntu2004lts:~# nmcli dev show ens33 | grep -i dns
IP4.DNS[1]:                            10.120.25.1
IP4.DNS[2]:                            1.1.1.1
IP4.DNS[3]:                            8.8.4.4
IP4.DNS[4]:                            XXXXXX
IP4.DNS[5]:                            8.8.8.8
IP4.DNS[6]:                            XXXXXX

So the first listed DNS is 10.120.25.1

Now this DNs over-rides a number of addressees from external to internal for testing and other reasons.

Code:

root@ubuntu2004lts:~# nslookup mughi.XXX.XXX 10.120.25.1
Server:        10.120.25.1
Address:        10.120.25.1#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:    mughi.XXX.XXX
Address: 10.120.25.62

So 10.120.25.1 returns what I want, but running nslookup returns:
Code:

egandt@ubuntu2004lts:~$ nslookup mughi.XXX.XXX
Server:        127.0.0.53
Address:        127.0.0.53#53

Non-authoritative answer:
Name:  mughi.XXX.XXX
Address: 100.38.XXX.XXX

So the external facing IP, which is wrong. Since 10.120.25.1 is first it should be used and hence resolve an internal IP, but while this works on Windows and Ubuntu 18.04, it is not working on 20.04LTS. I can not say what DNS it is using by default, but it is not the correct aka first one listed.

Why is 127.0.0.53 not using the first DNS set by the adapter? in this case 10.120.25.1, how do I get it to do so?

Code:

Link 2 (ens33)
      Current Scopes: DNS
DefaultRoute setting: yes
      LLMNR setting: yes
MulticastDNS setting: no
  DNSOverTLS setting: no
      DNSSEC setting: no
    DNSSEC supported: no
  Current DNS Server: 1.1.1.1
        DNS Servers: 10.120.25.1
                      1.1.1.1
                      8.8.4.4
                      XXX
                      8.8.8.8
                      XXX
          DNS Domain: ~.
                      <removed>

So based on "systemd-resolve --status" it is clear that it did not use the first entry but the second which is incorrect, but why is it ignoring/skipping the first entry?

18.04LTS looks the same but the order is correct with 10.120.25.1 showing up first.
Code:

Link 2 (ens33)
      Current Scopes: DNS
      LLMNR setting: yes
MulticastDNS setting: no
      DNSSEC setting: no
    DNSSEC supported: no
        DNS Servers: 10.120.25.1
                      1.1.1.1
                      8.8.4.4
                      xxxx
                      8.8.8.8
                      xxxx
          DNS Domain: ~.
                      <removed>

Correct server is being used.

Frequent Wireless Disconnection

My Wireless Network Adapter seems to detect a wireless access point that is about 100 yards away. The router in my house, the adapter frequently disconnects every 2 minutes and goes into the hidden networks every 30-60 minutes.

The access point at the 100 yard location is at someone else's home and it needs an authentication key to gain access. It seems to be a very stable and consistent detection.

I've talked with the owner of the access point that I have permission to access. They said they haven't made any changes to the router and that they are having no issues with frequent automatic disconnect.

Why can't my adapter detect the closest one with more consistent stability?

Hey Flolks,

I've searched this and other forums but I cannot get my bluetooth to work for me. I'm running Ubuntu 18.04 on a Toshiba Satellite C55-A. I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, starting, restarting and other things I only somewhat understood but can't get it to work.

Here's what I get in my terminal

As you can see something is running in the background, but I don't know what.

Any ideas?

[server] iperf test is 930Mb/s, but TCP send packet is slow, why?

I have an HTTP server, and two ports(eth1 and eth2) are LAN connections to a device to get data from the device. The HTTP server is connected to a gigabit switch through the eth0 port, which is connected to multiple PCS that access the HTTP server and request video data.

I deployed an HTTP server on the server (Intel® Atom® Processor C3758), tested 980Mb/s with iperf, and tested 980Mb/s with PC capturing HTTP video data. But when I deployed the HTTP server on an Intel i5 PC, the speed never reached 800Mb/s, and after that it dropped to 600Mb/s, but iperf tested it at 930Mb/s.

The operating system of the deployed server is: Ubuntu server 18.04, memory 4G.

I have a small LAN of 4 PCs and have updated one of them to Kubuntu 20.04 but when I try to connect to any of the existing 19.10 samba servers I get this error: The file or folder smb://XXXXX.local/ does not exist. From the file manager on the 20.04, when I click on the Network button I can see the samba servers listed, including the server on the client machine which is the 20.04 machine. I get the error message even if I attempt to connect to the server on the 20.04 from the 20.04 machine. Changing max protocol from NT1 to off makes no difference. I am able to access Samba on the 19.10 PCs from the 20.04 PC. The 19.10 PCs can still connect to each other as normal. Something has obviously changed in 20.04, does anybody know what it is.

Up till now I have not installed this package but my its working fine. so, there is no package then which module managing that configuration? and then why we need this package?

I need little urgent help. Thank you so much.

Our router doesn't want us to video chat

$

I don't think this is actually an Ubuntu issue, but hopefully someone can point me in the right direction anyway.

Basically, if I use any video chat software (Zoom, Microsoft Teams, Skype), my internet connection drops 2-3 minutes later and I need to restart the router. This happens with two different Ubuntu machines (both 18.04 LTS) and also with my Android phone.

The router is a fairly old Netgear N150 model DGN1000.

If anyone has any suggestions for things I can try to get this working, it'd be very appreciated.
