E3276 4G very slow

Hi all,

I have the following problem. I managed to initialized Huawei 4G modem E3276 to start and connect using wvdial app. And as I see in the output I'm connected on LTE

AT^SYSINFOEX
^SYSINFOEX:2,3,0,1,,6,"LTE",101,"LTE"
OK

But what's bothering me is why the connection is so slow? using speedtest is like at most 4Mbps DL / 4Mbps UP.
Comparing this results with Windows machine where I reached over 10Mbps for both DL/UP.

On the same Ubuntu machine using the same script but connecting to 3G, I received almost 8-9Mbps of DL.

Had anybody similar problem?

I have a problem concerning my internet connection with both, cable and wireless.
I bought a Lenovo Thinkpad E555 and had no problems for some time with Linux Mint 17.2. MATE
Then connection is setup to cable or wireless.
Finally I instlled Ubuntu MATE 15.04 yesterday.
It worked fine right after the installation.
Now, upload works, but the download does not work most of the time. It recieves some bytes for a second and drops again to 0.
However with MAC-books and my android phone I always have wireless connection without problems.

I tried a lot of things already, mostly to improve the wireless connection (driver RTL8723BE), but apparently it is not restricted on the wireless connection.

With LinuxMint, I have tried a wired connection to the same router but through an intermediate router. This connection was more stable and I have noo idea why.

Somebody has any idea?

I have problems with the roaming network at my uni ('eduroam'):

Often I can't connect at all after repeated failed connection attempts with password prompts every so often.

Hello,
Few days ago I installed Ubuntu 14.04 in a new computer in an enterprise which has 2 branch, it is taking about 5 minutes to list files in a shared folder in other site.
The enterprise has 2 branch, both branch has a internet conection and there is a point to point line between both branch
Both branch have a file server with centos and both file servers have a shared folder named public, which are accesed from any branch and in any OS
The problem I saw in this new PC with Ubuntu but I tested it in an older PC with Centos 6.3, it took less than in ubuntu but too much, but in any Windows it take about 2 seconds
To mount the shared folder permanently, after search in google I added the following lines to the /etc/fstab file:
//192.168.2.32/public /media/public2 cifs guest,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8 0 0
//192.168.1.32/public /media/public1 cifs guest,uid=1000,iocharset=utf8 0 0
The first one add the public folder of the remote site and the second add the public folder on the server of the same site
The problem doesn't happen when I try to access the the second (local site), just with the first one (remote site)
Each time I open Nautilus and access to public2 it took about 5 minutes to list the files
When I do a "ls" the files appear inmediately but doing a "ls -l" it take more than 1 mimute (less than Nautilus but more than Windows explorer)
I think it is a problem with the way I am mounting the shared folder but I am not sure
I discard Internet problem or a problem in the server because from Windows it works fine
I discard a Nautilus problem because also it happen with "ls -l"
I disabled preview in Nautilus, and tried to change the view (list or icons), nothing changed

Anyone know what is the problem?

Internet not working on ubuntu after power failure

After a power failure in my home I started up my computers again. Internet is working fine on my mac and windows PC but my server running ubuntu 14.04 refuse to connect no matter how many time I restart or reset the router. I also have one more computer running mint and it has the same problem as the Ubuntu computer - no internet! Has been working fine for months but after the power failure they refuse to connect to internet, anyone have an idea what could be wrong??

I just did a clean install after running 12.10 past EOL.

I have a printer installed, and was sharing it on my LAN. I have access the network, and can see my WD Cloud and shared folders on other computers.

Controls/ dialogues that were on previous versions, (such as the "Share Local Printer" button in printer setup ) are not available on GNOME 15.04, I need help locating them if they are here!

I can not find any way to make a folder on this machine available on the network.
I need to share my local attached printer with other systems on my LAN, but I can not find a way to enable it.

So I just tried to set up ubuntu on my laptop, and this is the first time I will actually be using ubuntu on a regular basis. I know how to use the terminal a little bit. Anyways, ubuntu itself works fine, however I cant get wifi working. I had the wifi to work while I was using ubuntu off of a usb stick, but after it was finished installing, the wifi wont work anymore. I recently purchased this dongle: http://www.edimax.com/edimax/merchan...450/ew-7711mac because it's supposed to work with Linux.

I downloaded the drivers from their site, but when I try to 'make' it, I get the following error:

Cannot find wifi connection

Hello,
I have a HP Pavilion 15 e026sl where I installed Ubuntu 15.04. When installed Ubuntu, the wifi worked fine for a while, by some days, it seems it can't find any wifi connection at all. I noted that if I select "Connect to hidden wifi network" from the wifi dropdown and I connect to my router, the connections works and the pc also finds all the wifi connections in the area. What could be the problem?

PS: I see that many of you post commands in order to see what is inside the pc, I would like to do that aswell, but i dont't know how to help you! feel free to suggest any info you could need. Thank you!

Use a netgear adapter with Ubuntu 8.04

Heres a little back story, just got a decent pc but have had tons of issues with windows not recognizes the drivers for tons of things. Also, dell quit supporting the drivers I need. So I decided to get ubuntu. Unfortunately I had to downgrade from the latest, back to 8.04 because of some issues (I guess).
Good news is, ethernet works. Which means I do have internet on the machine. But before I do a full install (Booted from a usb), I want to make sure I can have wifi working on it as well.

I do know that there are plenty of tutorials on how to get this thing to work, but none of them really make sense to me. Plus they are mostly for 10+, as I am running 8.04, I'm not sure that they will work.

The device I'd like to get running is : Netgear Wireless N-300 USB Adapter WNA3100 ;
As I stated above, I am booted from a usb using Ubuntu 8.04 ;

Obviously I am super new to this, and I have no idea what I am doing. Not even sure how to figure out how to see a list of devices connected to the machine..

Any help would be awesome, and if you need more info let me know.

Networking Settings Greyed Out

This should be an easy fix.

I am running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS . When I click on the settings applet --> Network --> Select Wired and click the options button, all the settings on all the tabs are greyed out or disabled. I can see all my static IP information but I am unable to change it.

What could be causing this and how can I enable the editing of the network details?

I try for a long time to set-up the wifi for my dell pro venue 11 (wifi chipset Intel Corporation Wireless 7260).
The wifi connection is perfect until the computer is suspend. After a suspend, even activating the wifi from network manager is impossible (picture).

Recently 15.04 has been update to 4.2 RC8. Nothing new !

A file unload_modules has been created.
/etc/pm/config.d with SUSPEND_MODULES="$SUSPEND_MODULES iwlwifi" without any effect.

sudo service network-manager restart doesn't work too !

Is there a command to force the wifi card ?

I just built a new computer and installed 14.04 on it, but my wireless connection is stuck between 20-30 Mbps even though my roommate gets ~60Mbps on her Mac. I've combed through the forums and I've tried all of the following:
1) fixing Debian Avahi-daemon bug/problem by editing the line in /etc/nsswitch.conf
and
2) upgraded kernel

Gaming with OpenVPN

Hi,

After years of indecisiveness, not long after upgrading to Windows 10 I finally decided to ditch Windows as my main OS on my gaming computer. Most of my Linux experience comes from RHEL and Lubuntu, but this time I got Mint 17.2 because I just love the Cinnamon desktop. Shouldn't make too much of a difference in this purpose though.
I feel that perspectives for Linux gaming look a lot better than they used to back the first and last time I tried this in late 2012 or early 13. There's just this one thing:
For years I've been playing various games with friends (one guy likes to experiment, rest is Windows guys with 7 or even Vista) through Hamachi and, after Hamachi started pissing us off too much, Evolve - some HoMM, some Civ, some other stuff, but in particular we played the crap out of Empires: Dawn of the Modern World (sadly pretty much a dead game, and has a garbage rating in WineHQ from 2009...) and later Minecraft. Now, the game runs perfectly natively and so does the server BUT of course the only way for me to play MInecraft while on my gaming PC with Linux and with my friends is by running the server on my laptop with Windows and Evolve.

It didn't take me long to google that the messianic application to solve this connectivity problem would be OpenVPN and there are even instructions on how to set it up... but 90% of it is gibberish to me. I've taken a network class for a year but so far we haven't done much more than about the functions of some devices, half of which are obsolete, topologies and cable types. :D I know what a DNS is for and how to set up eth0 with a static 10 or 192 IP (but only if it's under /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts), and that is where my networking knowledge pretty much ends already. So I have no idea what I am doing... yet.

Anyone here who ever set up something like this and actually understands?

Edit: Okay, buy just following instructions such as https://openvpn.net/index.php/open-s...ion/howto.html and https://www.howtoforge.com/internet-...ough-firewalls, I managed to get the openvpn server installed and without errors on my PC and the client configured on my desktop. But connection fails with no output at all. That makes it hard to figure out. Maybe it's because I configured all the client certificates centrally and just moved one set over with an USB Stick?

Wi-fi can't discover any network and can't connect to network directly too. I tried to use different wi-fi settings on my router, but unsuccessfully. My android-phone and win7 see my and others networks very good.

[ubuntu] WiFi extremely slow on computer running 15.04, Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300

For a few months now my WiFi has been much slower than other devices connected to the same router. From the same location, other PC's and Macs routinely get ~100Mpbs down while my computer, (3 year old Sony Vaio), maxes out at around 25Mpbs while averaging ~10Mpbs. The problem effects both 2.4GHZ and 5GHZ networks, but 5GHZ is slightly faster (but still no where near where it should be). I installed the Intel Centrino Ultimate-N 6300 over my stock card to remedy the problem, but it didn't seem to help with the speed, only the range. I'm hoping it's a software problem, but I'm unsure as to what would be causing this. The problem persisted even after upgrading from 14.04 up the the latest release.
