Hi Friends,

I am using Modem and the Tp-Link TP-WR740N router, recently I installed Ubuntu Mate 16.04. I am not able to configure router under the link so I can use the DSL connection using the LAN Cable and also use the WiFi. I would appreciate if someone can guide me step by step.

Thanks in advance

WiFi not working with Qualcomm Atheros AR9285 Wireless Network Adapter

I had a previously running Ubuntu 12.04 installation where everything was working perfectly, including sharing the wired internet connection (by creating a wireless network and hostapd). I tried upgrading the installation to Ubuntu 14.04. In the beginning, WiFi was working (as in showing the networks in the area). But it was unable to create a wireless network. I tried a few things but then WiFi also stopped working completely after that. Any help would be appreciated.

Internet problems (Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6250 (Taylor Peak) 2x2 AGN)

Hi,

I have installed Lubuntu on my laptop, and encountered 2 problems:

1. The laptop has a Intel Centrino Advanced-N 6250 (Taylor Peak) 2x2 AGN wifi module.
Which drivers do I need, and where can I get them?

2. Internet over direct LAN works (when I connect the wall plug with my laptop through an ethernet cable). However, if I connect my laptop to a working router which is connected to the wall, then internet does not work.

Can you please help me?

Add routes with NetworkManager after tun0 is up

Hi All,

I have a cisco VPN setup in NetworkManager (vpnc). I'm able to connect to it, but I don't like having tun0 as my default route. So I ignore routes obtained with a connection and have to run 2 commands after I connect

Code:

ip r add 10.1.0.0/16 dev tun0
ip r add 10.2.0.0/16 dev tun0

i don't know the remote gateway address to use NetworkManager UI to setup these routes. So my question is:- is it able to achieve the same with other means? Maybe some if-up scripts instead?

Thank you in advance!

Wifi problem in Ubuntu 16.04

Hello,

I have installed Ubuntu 16.04 on my Lenovo U31 and having slow connection issues in Ubuntu. Windows is also installed on the same laptop and works fine. I would really appreciate any suggestion.

Some details:
After I installed Ubuntu, the wifi driver was not recognized. It started to work after I downloaded firmware files for the driver from this website. However, the speed is very slow and the signal is very weak. Very often the connection drops and asks for wifi password. Everything is fine if I connect with a cable.

[lubuntu] Wifi Connection disconnects and reconnects + Wifi is slow

First up sorry for the length of this post, and my newbieness, although I've been a user of lubuntu for a while, I'm still pretty new to a lot of it's inner workings. I currently have lubuntu 16.04.1 installed on a HP Compaq nc6220 laptop.

Anyway, I noticed a few months ago (quite possibly when I upgraded to 16.04, but I can't be sure to be honest) that my wifi connection has a habit of disconnecting itself then reconnecting. I also noticed that my connection is quite slow - based on speedtest.net my girlfriends laptop next to me always gets at least 10mbps download speeds, whilst I vary between 4mbps al the way through to 10mbps.

After looking at other threads here I tried to install wicd and remove network manager as I heard that can help, but made some mistakes along the way and somehow removed the ability to connect to the internet (or I just didn't know enough to fix it myself!). So I though I'd do a clean install of 16.04.1 (erased everything on the drive after backing up), but alas the same problems persist.

I went through this article here about speeding up internet on ubuntu, but none of it works for me; https://itsfoss.com/speed-up-slow-wi...ection-ubuntu/

Solution 1: For Slow WiFi in Atheros Wireless Network Adaptors - I don't think I have atheros based on the output from lshw -C network below so doesn't apply;

Code:

WARNING: you should run this program as super-user.

      resources: irq:21 memory:d0400000-d0400fff
WARNING: output may be incomplete or inaccurate, you should run this program as super-user.

Solution 2: Disable 802.11n - Running sudo rmmod iwlwif results in:
Code:

rmmod: ERROR: Module iwlwif is not currently loaded
Solution 3: Fix the bug in Debian Avahi-daemon - /etc/nsswitch.conf doesn't have the problems listed (it says hosts: files dns as it should do)

Solution 4: Disable IPv6 support - I went through the instructions and disabled IPV6 support but it didn't change the speed (is it problematic that IPv6 is now disabled?

Solution 5: Ditch default network manager and embrace Wicd - this could work but I don't know how to do it successfully without stopping my wifi from working completely!

Solution 6: More power to wireless adaptor - Running sudo iwconfig results in;

Code:

enp16s0  no wireless extensions.

lo        no wireless extensions.

wlp2s4    IEEE 802.11bg  ESSID:"waytogo"
          Mode:Managed  Frequency:2.462 GHz  Access Point: 00:60:64:80:04:2C

Rx invalid nwid:0  Rx invalid crypt:0  Rx invalid frag:0
          Tx excessive retries:0  Invalid misc:0  Missed beacon:8

I can turn the power managment off using sudo iwconfig wlp2s4 power off, but it doesn't speed up the internet, and upon reboot power management is back on (as you can see above!).

Finally, in case this helps, here is the output from running the wireless info script:

Code:

OPenvpn client issues

Hi there

I am trying to configure OPenvpn on my Ubuntu 14.04 laptop following this guide:

https://help.ubuntu.com/14.04/serverguide/openvpn.html

I am connecting to an Ubuntu VPS with OpenVPN configured

For some reason though the client side isn't working. The tunnel inteface isn't being created

Code:

$ ifconfig -a
enp9s0    Link encap:Ethernet  HWaddr a4:ba:db:9d:53:f6
          inet addr:192.168.1.170  Bcast:192.168.1.255  Mask:255.255.255.0
          inet6 addr: fe80::d7d1:afdd:d70f:3704/64 Scope:Link

          RX bytes:464957998 (464.9 MB)  TX bytes:227037131 (227.0 MB)
          Interrupt:18

lo        Link encap:Local Loopback
          inet addr:127.0.0.1  Mask:255.0.0.0
          inet6 addr: ::1/128 Scope:Host
          UP LOOPBACK RUNNING  MTU:65536  Metric:1
          RX packets:57501 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:57501 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1
          RX bytes:15108145 (15.1 MB)  TX bytes:15108145 (15.1 MB)

$ ifconfig -a

and there is no output to /var/log/syslog other than a systemd entry:

Code:

Aug  6 13:35:47 qholloi-Inspiron-1545 systemd[1]: Starting OpenVPN service...
Aug  6 13:35:47 qholloi-Inspiron-1545 systemd[1]: Started OpenVPN service.

I tried increasing verbosity in /etc/oprnvpn/client.conf but still nothing.

Here is /etc/openvpn/client.conf:

Code:

internet doen't work after update to 16.04

Hey,

I updated my system to 16.04 and it did not end up well.
The graphic card (nvidia) is not working, so I'm in terminal mode.
More important, the internet is not working, so I can't fix the rest of the problems.

I have connected my machine with an ethernet cable, however, I have no internet.
Please excuse me for using pictures, I can't transfer the log to my laptop.

I tried all kind of solution over the internet, and I believe that the source of the problem is with the dhclient.

Thank you for the help!

Those are all the screenshots I took:

Thank you!

Wifi works ok on my user account, but does not connect on the guest signin. Why is that?

Thanks.

(Another) wireless issue in Ubuntu 16.04

Hey folks

Yet another user struggling with wifi consistency on Ubuntu 16.04. HP Stream 11, wireless is EXTREMELY intermittent, i.e. could be up for 6 hours without issue, or losing connection and reconnecting every 10 seconds, and everything in between. I can be by the router itself and lose connection repeatedly, or miles away from it and have no issues, or vice versa.

I've switched to WICD over NetworkManager to no avail, but at least it reconnects upon disconnection now. I've also (manually) turned off power management for the wireless to no avail.

As per the usual request, I've run the wireless script and attached the info below.

Can anyone help please? Thanks in advance,

Mark

Chip reset with physical movement?

So I know this is a bit of an odd issue and maybe doesn't belong here - but it's related to wireless and drivers and what not so hopefully someone knows what's going on. I have a wireless adapter attached via a dongle to a USB port, which works, for the most part, fine.

Except when I move my laptop, the adapter, or check to make sure it's plugged in fully (which it is). Sometimes I will lose connection and maybe 30 seconds later get it back. I could just be moving my laptop, and it disconnects, with the cord plugged in all the way and no sign of wear or tear in it or the adapter. It may occur more often on some kernels than others.

########## wireless info END ############

I did not have this problem in 15.10.

I have tried other USB ports with no change. I 'have' to use the dongle connector because the adapter itself pops out too easily if it's connected directly.

Any ideas?

Network Manager miscategorizes wireless card as ethernet (16.04)

I have an intermittent problem where Network Manager miscategorizes my wireless card (a TP-LINK USB adapter with an Atheros chipset) as a wired ethernet adapter. The only "fix" I've found so far is to physically unplug the adapter and plug it in again, or to reboot the machine.

The problem appears to be specific to Network Manager. Command-line tools such as "iwlist scan" work fine. I don't recall having this issue in Ubuntu 15.10; it seems to have started appearing after the update to 16.04.

Output of the wireless-info script in a "bad" state and a "good" state (after unplugging the adapter and plugging it in again) are attached. The blank DRIVER-VERSION and FIRMWARE-VERSION lines in the "bad" file make me wonder if this is a timing issue; i.e. Network Manager is querying the card too soon, before it's fully initialized.

Significant lines:

[all variants] How do I make a Broadcom Combo Wifi AC + BT 4.0 work in Ubuntu?

Hi,

I have a AzureWave Broadcom BCM94352HMB/BCM94352 802.11/ac/867Mbps WLAN + BT4.0 Half Mini PCI-E Card [14E4:43B1] .
The wifi works fine after installing bcmwl-kernel--source, but the Bluetooth part of the card is not recognized by Ubuntu. I tried upgrading the kernel to Linux 4.4.14-040414-generic but it did not help.

My computer (Toshiba Qosmio X500 - PM55 chipset) has already a bluetooth device (Ver 2.11 + EDR) but its range is extremely limited and I would like to use the capabilities of the combo card.

The output of lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net; lsusb; lsmod | grep blue; dmesg | egrep -i 'blue|firm' is:

There is a similar question here:
HTML Code:

but the solution did not work for me. Also, I am not sure as to where to get the hex file for this particular card.

Does anyone know how to make it work?

Thanks!

[Xubuntu] Wireless Card not detected after upgrade to 16.04

$

Today i've upgraded Xubuntu in my laptop from 15.04 to 16.04 using USB. I choose the delete and reinstall option because the upgrade options was grayed out. Also, same like before, it's dual-booted with win 7.

Several week before, at 15.04 xubuntu detects my wireless card as Intel Centrino Wireless. Even though it's detected, it's faulty. It discovers nearby wifi networks with low signal and can't connect to it. One of my reason to upgrade is to (hopefully) fix this problem. Now it's even worse, the card doesn't showed itself when i use lspci, lshw, or lsusb.

Also, I downloaded the suitable driver for that card and place it at /lib/firmware, severe weeks before the upgrade. It doesn't seem to matter. I'm sure it's wiped out after the upgrade.

I need some help. Thanks before.

[ubuntu] 16.04: Jmicron Gigabit NIC does not work on 1000 mbps speed

Hi,

My laptop (Asus K42 JA) has a Jmicron Gigabit nic card, full name is below

Code:

lspci -nn | grep -i eth
07:00.5 Ethernet controller [0200]: JMicron Technology Corp. JMC250 PCI Express Gigabit Ethernet Controller [197b:0250] (rev 03)

and here is the ethtool output (Right now its forced to 100 mbps)

Code:

sudo ethtool enp7s0f5
Settings for enp7s0f5:
Supported ports: [ TP MII ]
        Supported link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full

        Advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
Link partner advertised link modes:  10baseT/Half 10baseT/Full
                                            100baseT/Half 100baseT/Full
Link partner advertised pause frame use: Symmetric Receive-only
        Link partner advertised auto-negotiation: Yes
        Speed: 100Mb/s
        Duplex: Full
        Port: MII
        PHYAD: 1
        Transceiver: internal
        Auto-negotiation: on
        Supports Wake-on: pg
        Wake-on: g
        Current message level: 0x000020c6 (8390)
                              probe link rx_err tx_err hw
        Link detected: yes

It is supposed to work on max 1000 mbps but if I leave the card at 1000 mpbs with auto-negotiation, the link does not get detected at the other end. I have an Asus AC router and a Sonicwall Firewall, both supporting 1000 mbps, The same ports on both Asus and Sonicwall does work on 1000 mbps if I connect some other gigabit device to them.

I have tried forcing the speed on the Ubuntu for the laptop nic to 100 mbps and this works fine, link gets detected and also works at 100 mbps. I used the below command from another thread to do so

Code:

sudo ethtool -s enp7s0f5 speed 100 duplex full autoneg on
Even if I change the 100 to 1000 on the above command the link does not get detected.

Is there anything else I could try?

Edit: Changed multiple cable, even tried the cable which works at 1000 mbps on other devices

Thanks

basic networking question

I have set up a subdomain with an Ubuntu 16.04 machine, with a DHCP server and a Samba server both working well. Clients can share the internet connection and file sharing is possible.

Now I would like to set up domain user accounts with domain user profiles, i.e. users login not to their local machine account but to the domain account. The applications of the local machine should still be available but not the local directories.

Can someone point me to the right literature on how to do this with Linux? I have done some searching but all I find are publications explaining how to join a windows machine to a Windows active directory domain.

Thanks for a pointer.

Rebooting doesn't help, nor does turning the switch on/off, or disabling and re-enabling network or wifi. The wifi light is not lit (bluetooth is). In Lubuntu, the error is Wifi device not ready.

I'm not sure what to check next. The wireless has worked for the last 6 months, and I have not made any changes to configuration or software (unless maybe an automatic update happened without my knowledge).

Thanks!
