[kubuntu] SMB4K Crashes

Hello, I am running kubntu 16.04 1 LTS with Pasma 5.5.5 and have recently added SMB4K facility which installed ok. I have a windows laptop that I use as a server and another pc running kubuntu 16.04 LTS with plasma 5.5.5 which runs smb4k ok and sees the windows share mount no problem. However on the other pc running 16.04 1 when I click the windows share folder in the smb4k GUI which I have imaginatively named "workgroup", the whole programme crashes.....I get an error message from the crashed GUI which is below, it is difficult for me to understand what it is saying.......
I did read somewhere that I may be using an old version of SMB4K I am using version 1.1.2 but I will check how to upgrade this, perhaps that will solve the issue.....any ideas? thanks!!

Cannot get nfs to work

I have followed the NFS install and another post. I have attached from the server: exports, and fstab. The folder is amanda_photos. The server is "gateway" (192.168.3.1).
One client is phil-network (192.168.3.2) I have not used any login passwords and at boot the client states problem mounting /mnt/amanda_photos.
I believe the following is all the pertinent terminal info from each machine. I have been using putty to get in the server.

[lubuntu] kworker using 100% CPU and over 90°C when reconnecting lost WiFi connection

Hello

When I use the WiFi on my notebook and it loses connection, it may reconnect soon later, it may disconnect or it may keep trying to reconnect forever and then use 100% CPU. The issue happens on this third case: once that eternal reconnection attempt happens, the only 2 ways it will stop using 100% CPU is by rebooting the computer or if (by a miracle) it reconnects.

When this happens, not only I become unable to connect to any wireless network, but the notebook's temperature gets pretty high: after 2 minutes, it easily raises to 90°C. Nothing makes the temperature raise so quickly, even other CPU intensive processes which use 100% all the time. As a workaround to solve this if I can't reboot the notebook, I change the CPU frequency to 1 GHz, so the temperature gets lower. But my father don't know how to do this, so if this happens when he is using, the only thing he can do is to restart the computer.

When looking at the result of the command top when the bug happens, there are 2 different kworker processes that demands high CPU.

As consequence of this, the user can no longer use wireless connections and the temperature gets dangerously high.

The notebook is a Asus M2400N with a 1.7 GHz processor and 1248 MB of RAM. Its wireless device is a Intel Corporation PRO/Wireless 2200BG [Calexico2] Network Connection (rev 05). All versions of Lubuntu which I installed (from 12.04 to 16.04) present this issue.

I searched everywhere but to date cannot find a wifi driver for my favourite xubuntu.

I am relatively new to linux so am wary of attempting to build a driver from sources I have come across.

Can anyone tell me if there is a 'made' driver available now, maybe RTL8723e which apparently included the 'b'

The Realtec web site does not have one. It seems this has been a problem wifi card since 2013.

Having trouble connecting to any PPTP VPN server

I have a PPTP server setup on a remote router which I know works. I can connect and disconnect my MacOS computer all day without a problem. I am having so many issues trying to get a PPTP VPN connection working reliably in linux. I have spent a day yesterday trying all sorts of things, but just left with frustration.

I tried this first on Raspbian with no luck, and now I'm trying to do the same on my Ubuntu 14.04 laptop, and getting the same error, so it must be something I am doing wrong.

I am even having this problem if I use the graphical VPN setup, it may work the first time, but if I try to disconnect and reconnect, issues arise.

After installing pptp-linux, I used the pptpsetup command to configure the VPN settings:

I followed these instructions for VPN setup. The issue is not unique to my mikrotik, I have received similar results on free PPTP VPN services. I will edit the post for any command output or configuration files needed.

[ubuntu] Can't connect to channel 140 on 5ghz in regulatory domain RU

Hello,

I live in Russia and have a asus rt-N77u router set to 5gh control channel 140 (5700 mhz) my macbook, and android phones connects fine to the router but my ubuntu 14.04 LTS does not. I tried to change my regulatory domain to RU, as seen at:

Wikipedia states that channel 140 is allowed https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_o...Fac.29.5B17.5D.

Some of my neighbours run routers with countrycodes GB and SE if that matters.

I tried to make a script that changes iw reg set to all countries possible, and none of them show 140 as a selecatble channel. I can connect with 2.4ghz fine though.

Broadcom BCM4350/16.04/4.7.0-Wireless still says connected but stopped working

So the issue I am having is my wireless worked fine for a bit but now it still says connected but has no internet connection on my brand new Lenovo Yoga 710. I am sure the hardware still works as I am able to boot into windows and use the wireless just fine. I am new to linux so I am sure you all can help me solve this issue.

I installed 16.04 and on my Lenovo Yoga 710 it was having ACPI boot issue but I was able to fix that by updating to kernel 4.7.0. But after a few days on 4.7.0 the internet just stopped working, it still says it is connected though but no sites will pull up. I figured some update just messed up and didn't have anything important on the system yet so I just reinstalled 16.04 and updated the kernel again. But the issue just happened again and I am stuck on how to fix it.

I don't have any way to get wired internet on that laptop but I am able to use my secondary laptop and a USB to transfer things.

I have intel wireless 5300 Wi-Fi card and I should run an AP with this card.
However, intel 5300 doesn't support AP mode so hostapd doesn't work.
Description of airbase-ng says it has an ability to act as a full access point.
I tried to run airbase-ng, but my smartphone didn't detect any SSID.
How can I run a full AP with the airbase-ng?

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 16.04 ssh restart failing

I have Ubuntu 16.04 server edition installed on a remote server.
I am using ssh to connect on it. Today after an update/upgrade, I had new openssh-server package version installed (1:7.2p2-4ubuntu2.1) but configure step failed with : invoke-rc.d: initscript ssh, action "restart" failed.

I know that restarting ssh while being connected through ssh should not be a problem.
I have rebooted my server and ssh is working fine.
When I try manually /etc/init.d/ssh restart the restart is failing.
systemctl status ssh.service result is:

No network connectivity on reboot

I've been trying to fix the setup of a new Ubuntu server box, and one problem is that when it's rebooted, it comes up with no network connectivity. I've done a lot of googling, and the result is a lot of confusion. Is there somewhere a coherent description of the "latest, greatest" setup stuff.

One problem is that we can't even convince ourselves that we know what release of Ubuntu is on the box. Typing "uname -a" gives:

However, nearly all the docs use OS version numbers starting with "16-". We suspect it's 16-4 (or maybe 16-6?), but nowhere do we find anything that gives a 16-* number. What are we missing? Where is this documented?

Also, ifconfig gives the result for the known ethernet port (en01):

One thing that looks wrong is that the /etc/network/interfaces file says:

That's not the address that ifconfig shows, and "ls -lu" shows that /etc/network/interfaces wasn't read after the reboot. So, despite all the helpful docs saying to put the info in /etc/network/interfaces, that info is apparently not used during a boot. Or is it? I discovered the "ip address" command, which gives:

This gets even more reactions. What's this 10.0.1.1 gateway, and where did it come from? That string isn't in any config file that I can find. And where did the 169.254.0.0 address come from? What is doing this setup, and how to we fix it?

Anyway, we're looking for a bit of guidance in making sense of this mess, so we can get the server up and running sanely. (Googling the problems isn't getting us anywhere. ;-)

(We're convinced that some big changes have been made somewhere. Part of the evidence is that I tried copying the network setup from a machine just down the wire that's been running for a few years, changing only the last field of the IP addresses to 17 for this machine. The result was an earlier version of the failure you see above. But part of the evidence is also that "ls -lu" tells us that some of the config files weren't even read after a boot.)

(And I did find references to network-manager, which I tried disabling using some instructions that google found, but that didn't seem to change anything at all, so it may not be the problem.)

(And points to anyone who can name the sci-fi novel that the machine's name came from. ;-)

Windows Client unable to access Ubuntu Server

I have 2 Ubuntu 12.04 servers, they have been running for a long time. I have several windows client that access Samba shares on the Ubuntu servers.

Recently one of the clients has been unable to access one of the servers. It can access the other server and the other windows clients can access both on the servers. I have restart the Windows client and I have restarted the Ubuntu server. I can't find anything out of place.

Any Ideas?

Hello,
I have an old laptop and i decided to put ubuntu on it trying to move away from W10. I installed Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS, but now im having a little problem with my wired internet connection but the wifi works. I get this "Disconnected - you are now offline". I did some research on my own, but since im new to linux i need some opinion and maybe a solution.
So i ran lspci -knn in terminal and i get this message regarding my lan card/driver:

[ubuntu] Auto connect to VPN when connected to wifi

I have selected auto-connect to my VPN for certain wifis. However, what happens is that when it connects to those wifis it brings up the VPN dialog instead of automatically connecting in the background. Under certain conditions this leads to some problems(due to some custom software I have installed). How do I automatically connect to the VPN in the background without the dialog popping up?

network "unclaimed" after a disk integrity problem

I no longer have networking because I somehow got a disk integrity problem and though it tried to repair the problem on bootup, apparently it didn't do it successfully. I'm running 14.04.

Now I have no eth0 but lshw -C network shows my network card. It is listed as "UNCLAIMED". From what I can tell that means the driver isn't loading? The driver does still seem to exist in the kernel/drivers/net/ethernet directory. Maybe the driver itself is messed up? Or is there anything else that would block it from loading or prevent the card from being properly recognized as being associated with that driver (intel e1000 btw)?

This is in vmware and I do have an older snapshot. I'll lose a bunch of changes if I simply go back to that one so I hope to salvage my current state if at all possible. That said, I can go back to the old snapshot to compare/grab files or whatever if that helps. The network does work in that snapshot FWIW.

Wifi not working in Ubuntu server 16.04

Hi all,

I have been trying to search online but I didn't find any solution to my issue, just to clarify I am using ubuntu server 14.04 for over a year and everything was working fine.

I have an intel NUC 2820 with an Intel wifi 7260 card, and I can use only wifi connection no ethernet.

I did a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04 in a new SSD, and normally with Ubuntu 14.04 I would setup /etc/network/interfaces like this:

Hello everyone,

I've been following a forum post on how to fix my wired connection speed in ubuntu 14.04 (https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread....2227323&page=3).
