[ubuntu] remove usenetserver vpn

$
0
0
I went from the pia vpn to the usenetserver vpn. The usenetserver vpn seems to shut down my internet access and, apparently, there is no solution. That being the case I want to remove the usenetserver vpn and go back to the pia vpn which had no problems. I think that all I really have to do is to remove all the usenetserver vpn files from the home directory to do that but I wanted to make sure by asking whether this is right, before I reinstall the pia vpn.

Thank you ..................

[SOLVED] reinstalling pia vpn problem

$

I have just reinstalled the pia vpn.

I had problems, sent an email to pia and they told me to remove and reinstall. I did that and, now, everything is dandy!

I am trying to figure out how to get the pia icon on the top bar. I have tried the config button (on bottom of server list) but nothing happens when I press it.

It seems that I also have a DNS leak. I have, in theory followed the directions and fixed it but I still have the leak. Here is the network info:

[ubuntu] Lenovo (Dual Booting) Ubuntu 16.04 LTS barely able to connect to the internet

Hello everybody!
Ive installed Ubuntu on my Lenovo Laptop just yesterday and internet access seems to work pretty much never.
This laptop is also running Win10 which has no issues connecting at all.

Basically the main issue is, that it is able to connect to the router but still allows no external connections.
For exampe, pinging google.com just says something as unknown host or could not reach host.
I also cant ping my local gateway (192.168.2.1). Ive disabled ipv6 in every way possible, ipv4 is set on DHCP.
Now to the weird part; It might work just a couple minutes after a router restart sometimes but if i restart the pc in this period of time it stops working once again.
Router says that the PC is connected to the router.

My RPI works just fine on this.

I have to manually type this out.
rfkill
Code:

0: ideapad_wlan: Wireless LAN
  Soft Blocked: no
  Hard blocked: no
1: ideapad_bluetooth -- skipping this one
2: hci0: Bluetooth -- skipping this one too
3: phy0: Wireless Lan
  Soft blocked: no
  Hard blocked: no

ifconfig
(too risky to type out)
Image of output:
http://i.imgur.com/g9vr91G.jpg

I havent found a solution on this on the internet, nor identical problems.
Thank you all for trying to help me out!

New installation of 16.04 Server, can SSH but can't reach ispConfig

$

I just reinstalled Ubuntu 16.04 Server using the instructions at:

https://www.howtoforge.com/tutorial/...and-ispconfig/

The installation seemed to go fine. I connected to ispConfig to begin setting things up. However, a short time later, I was unable to reconnect from inside and outside my home network. Forget port 8080, I now can't even enter the ip to get the Apache2 Ubuntu Default Page.

SSH/port 22 works with no problem but entering my server ip into my browser gives me:

Unable to connect

Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at XX.XX.XX.XX.

The site could be temporarily unavailable or too busy. Try again in a few moments.
If you are unable to load any pages, check your computer’s network connection.
If your computer or network is protected by a firewall or proxy, make sure that Firefox is permitted to access the Web.

I disabled ufw and fail2ban thinking maybe one of those was blocking the connection from my laptop, but no dice.

Any quick thoughts on why I was able to reach ispconfig, and then suddenly I'm being blocked?

Thanks

got a usb 2 dongle to do my wifi. Loaded the driver for windows & that works ok.
Now the driver for linux is another problem. Would like some novice advice on generating the driver for ubuntu.
Looked @ the configuration & noticed the changes they recommended, now there is the 'make'. Used to do things like that with unix. However, its been 20 years +/- so now how do i proceed? TIA

Fresh 16.04 Sees home wifi but no activity when clicking connect button

$

I have a Lenovo thinkpad Yoga that I was running 16.04 on. All wifi was working great.
I had to re-install ubuntu for unrelated reasons.

After I re-installed, Ubuntu can see the home wifi connection. I click on it, put in my wifi key, click the connect button but nothing happens. There is no activity with the wifi icon up in the top right corner of the desktop.

When I took this same laptop to work today, I was successfully able to connect to the wifi network there which I find odd. Not sure what it is about my home network. I don't recall having to do anything special when I set this same laptop up a few weeks ago. I was just able to connect. Now? Not so much.

The laptop does not having a hard wired connectivity. Only wifi.

Was hoping to get some help in resolving this.

Thanks
Rick

[ubuntu] No internet after changing router

Hello
I had to buy a new router for my home network and now I can't access internet on a computer with Ubuntu (15.10).
Everything works fine on other computers with Windows operating system (both LAN and WiFi).
Firefox gives "Server not found" error on every webpage I try to open and Chrome says "server DNS address could not be found".
I use DHCP and looks like ethernet configuration is obtained properly.
Here is the output of
Code:

ifconfig -a
Code:

              RX bytes:215083 (215.0 KB) RX bytes:215083 (215.0 KB)

Default route is 192.168.1.1
Primary DNS 10.101.208.1

Everything seems to be OK. There is a webpage based configuration system for that router and my PC is identified properly (name, IP, MAC). I tired to manually delete old connection and add a new one in Ubuntu but nothing changes - configuration from DHCP is obtained bu internet still doesn't work, also tried to disable standard Ubuntu Firewall.
I don't know why I can't access internet on that Ubuntu PC. Few days ago while I still had that old router everything was working fine.
Is it Ubuntu or my new router?
Any ideas?
Best regards,
Mike

Where are these kept?

Started the big 14.04 to 16.04 update last night, got up this morning and system was locked-up. Restarted the computer and and got a mesg about S.M.A.R.T. being bad and the computer wouldn't boot. Placed the drive into another computer as a 2nd drive and can read the files.

[all variants] Mounting a File Server or Rsyncing multiple Computers and Data Backup

$

Hello all fellow enthusiasts! I have a slightly convoluted question, involving aspects of different questions, for one specific purpose. I appreciate your indulging me and thank you.

I currently have three linux setups: (Main) a PC Tower running 64-bit Kubuntu 16.04 LTS, (secondary) a laptop running 64-bit Ubuntu 16.04 LTS, and a Raspberry Pi "server" running Raspbian. I have spent the past couple months setting up a wired LAN, so that I could have a centrally located home file-server. Besides the ability to share pictures, videos, etc., I am mainly interested in a shared "Documents" folder. If I write a new version of a document, or create and updated spreadsheet, or whatever, I'd like to access it and write to the file from any of my devices.

First, I collected all the data I wanted on the server to a 2TB HDD in my PC. Then I used rsync to copy and sync the folders.

Second, I used rsync to copy what data was on my laptop to a second folder ... just b/c I wanted to be careful about not losing data.

Is it better to have all my Documents & Music on the file server, and just keep separate backups on something like an external HD? I have yet another PC Tower 2TB HDD and could keep backups there, but I'm not sure if I can compress the files (both docs and music) and preserve their integrity. I also considered creating some type of images as a means of backup to this other HDD. Is it better to have hard copies of all my files, on large drives, in my PC? Then rsync to the server, and then rsync again to my other computer (laptop)? If so, could I set up cron jobs and just automate that approach?

Third, as an alternative to the above, should I just mount the file server on whichever computer I am using? I installed SAMBA, but have also looked at NFS. The problem I see is that it is not quite like "mounting" a physical drive to computer. What should I use if I go with this approach?

Thanks so much!

:( Hello all

i have a hp-2760p and i described my bigger problem with this wifi connection here:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread....2#post13506382

its another problem is: sometimes its wifi wireless connction drops without any known reason even after only 2 minutes connection and without any load of data transfer.

after disconnecting (as described in above link) i must do "service network-manager restart" as root to connect again ( its reason was described in the above link or thread) , thus i saved the /var/log/syslog from the moment of stating the network-manager service in pastebin here: http://pastebin.com/y5K8V6SB
and the output of wireless-info script is here: http://paste.ubuntu.com/23051856/

the disconnection is shown in /var/log/syslog as line bellow:
Aug 13 17:29:39 hpk1604 kernel: [664038.588250] wlo1: disassociated from D-link-932-MAC (Reason: 3)
( is existed in pastebin above )
Do anyone know what is "reason 3" in above log report ?

please help me to solve above problems
Thanks a lot

[ubuntu] Weird Wifi Login Error on Ubuntu 16.04

When trying to login to my high school's network on my laptop, I get a popup to login with my Username and Password (LEAP) I enter them and Ubuntu saves it. After about 30 seconds of trying to connect, the exact same popup comes up.
I retype my password only because Ubuntu has already saved the username and it goes away, 30 seconds later and the popup comes back again. It never tells me if it's wrong.
I can boot into Windows 10 on the same laptop and connect to the wifi just fine. The IT manager couldn't solve my problem either (although I was the first to bring in a linux laptop so there's that), he couldn't login to the security network with his admin credentials or the student one.

Network problem on 16.04.1

Hi,

I upgraded my Ubuntu 14.10 to 16.04.1. After installation the network stopped working. I do not have a wireless network, but a wired one. It identifies my network card and the "network connections"-window identifies that a wired connection has been used every time I start the computer, but the Ethernet network cannot be connected.

If there is a way to fix the problem it would help alot.

Hello all,
please help:

last night I was browsing away not doing anything out of the ordinary and suddenly the computer locked up.
It has done it before, but generally when I had a lot of tabs open plus maybe a few other things, spreadsheets, VLC etc. I was thinking it's a memory issue.

But last night when it locked that wasn't the case. I only had a few chrome tabs up and I was watching youtube.

When it rebooted it gave me a choice of safe mode, memtest or normal boot.
Tried normal boot and it got to a totally black screen and didn't do any more.
Tried safe mode, and one monitor came up but I had no mouse.
I shut it down and went to bed.

This morning to my surprise it booted up and seemed fine!
Except that I had no internet.

Specifically, Chrome says:

There is no internet connection

When I went to system settings - network I got:

I have no idea what to do at this stage.
Can anyone please help?
