I have some important files I really need to back up over the network in order to upgrade Ubuntu versions. Currently running 10.04 LTS which does fine for what I need it to do mostly. Problem is that I can't see this machine under the network tab in Win7. It shows up fine on my status page of the router but past that pinging is all I can do. I am running static routes on all my equipment due mainly to some network satellite receivers that need a static address to work properly.
I cn access the internet fine on the Ubuntu machine but not the Windows network. SAMBA is installed running and configured with the accounts I need shared. This machine worked previously on the same network but was off lined for a few years and the static addresses were implemented since it was last running on the network.
I have tried everything I can think of and research but still no go ! I'm sure it's a simple something, it usually is in these situations.
I upgraded from Ubuntu 14 to 16. I think it was the .04 version of 16, and I both my wired and wireless connections are down, but I can get online with no problem for Windows.
The computer is an HP-15 ac143 laptop.
I know who to open the command console and type commands, but I am far from a Linux expert so if I need to use a diagnostic command I would likely have to be told exactly what to type into the console.
For a long time we have had fiber + microwave feeding a server in the Florida swamp. We could get data copied to/from our server in Boston at top speed of the microwave (approx 250mbps). Then something happened and speeds dropped off from like noon to midnight. Dropped to like 3-8 mbps! That is a big drop off! Nothing running on our servers that we know of that is time sensitive like that. AT&T in Florida checked out their fiber and swore it was working better than guaranteed rates of 250mbps, and a guy jacked into _our_ router there could see the same fast speed while the server using iPerf3 back up to Boston would see only 4-5mbps. Management said we were finally getting new fiber in to the Swamp directly and dropping the microwave (takes a lot of red tape cutting evidently) and didn't want me trying to solve the problem. Well they installed that new fiber Friday. Of course, I warned them that it could have absolutely nothing to do with that and the switch to new fiber provider may not fix a thing. Indeed, it did not. In fact, it seems that we have a not as slow connection now around 30-90mbps, but still not the 1gbps that both facilities now have and not the 250mbps we once had. Actualy scp copies from Boston to Swamp are running about 120mbps (not sure why it would be faster but still slower than it should be).
What is strange, is that iperf3 to iperf.scottlinux.com (3rd party in California with 1gbps connection?) shows 260+mbps from either location, but iperf3 -R to iperf.scottlinux.com shows 20-40mbps from the swamp and 100-120 mbps to Boston.
Now, I never checked rates to iperf.scottlinux.com before. We had our theoretical max from Swamp to Boston and everyone was happy so I can't say what problems started when but if someone could either direct me to some place that would help tune this up or give me some suggestions it would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Deron
Just in case the iperf3 output helps here is some:
I recently bought a Lenovo ideapad 110 that came with Windows. I wiped the harddrive and installed Ubuntu. From the beginning I had issues with the wifi. The wifi would see my network and connect with it, but after about 30 seconds or a minute, it would stop talking to the router. I couldn't ping anything on the web or even ping the router. It would just show connection time out, though it would still show formally connected to the router. I figured that Ubuntu just needed to update, so I plugged into a wired connection and installed all the updates. No dice. Same problem.
Then I googled around a bit and found that I was not the only person having issues with Realtek wifi cards. I read through this thread:
I followed the steps listed out in it (except I changed the name of the wifi card to my wifi card RTL8821AE rather than the 8723be). Now my computer doesn't seem to recognize the wifi card at all. I ran the wifi info app and will cut and paste the info below. Thank in advance for any help with this. I'm starting to get a bit frustrated.

Hi all, I am new to Ubuntu/Linux and am having some wireless driver issues.
I bought a usb WiFi adapter (PAU06) which uses the antiquated Ralink 5372 chipset. The native Ubuntu 16.04 driver (rt2800usb) does support this chipset, however my download speeds are exceptionally slow (between 500kbps and around 5mbps). The same WiFi adapter in my Windows laptop yields download speeds from 30-50mbps.
Because of this, I'm fairly certain that it is a driver issue, however it appears as if Ralink chipsets no longer receive driver updates / support. I am a half step away from trying ndswrapper to use the Windows drivers that were given by the sellers of the actual adapter, but I wanted to try and see if something else could work better.
Below I pasted some potentially relevant information. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Any help is greatly appreciated!
I have a Dell Latitude E5510 which I upgraded to a SSD with 8GB RAM (before 4GB) and to W10 from W7Pro. It works fine for an hour or so then gives me a unknown error message on blue background and I have to reboot. Spent way too much time trying to determine what was wrong, so decided to install a Live CD version on it to see if the error message re-appears. If so, must be hardware, and if not, probably something in W10 (never had the problem in W7).
I managed to break one of the leads to the built in WiFi so am trying to use an AirLink 101 Wireless N USB adapter. UM 16.04 doesn't seem to see it. Is that likely because it is N, and this older computer may not have N drivers?
Or what?
I am not very experienced in network issues so plain talk at ABC level will be appreciated. Thanks
Hello everyone, I'm new to linux, and just wanted to setup a server inside of a VM, thus I did manage to have internet access using the Bridge connection. But my problem is that I want to allow the ens33 (eth0) to be connected only to the network and not to the internet and that wlan0 becomes the primary internet access. After hours of googling I finally did connect to the AP, and got an IP from the DHCP server, but the problem is that when I ping, It always fails. Thus can someone please help me out? Thanks in Advance!
A few months ago I bought a new Lenovo ideapad 100. After a short trial of dual booting I wiped Win10 off and installed Ubuntu 16.06.
It's been fantastic. Everything working fine, even the WiFi has been flying along. That is until I recommended my set-up [Huawei MiFi unit on UK 3 Mobile Network] to my neighbour.
Since he got his on Saturday, my WiFi signal strength / speed has deteriorated.
I had my unit fixed on channel 11 and when I checked with 'Wifi Radar' I found that my neighbour is on channel 9. I have tried channels 1,3,5,6,7,13 and none offered any improvement, so I'm back on 11.
It shows a vast improvement when his Mifi is turned off. So, it is not a coincidence.
Anyone got any suggestions???
Attached is a Screenshot from Wifi Radar with my neighbours MiFi turned off (mine is highlighted) and wireless-infor.tar.gz
The rains continue so I have hauled out my HP 2133 netbook which has Lubuntu 12.04 on it. It also has a problem with wifi. Clicking on the network connections symbol on the lower right, everything is greyed out except VPN connections. Wired says: "Wired Network disconnected" and Wireless says "Device not ready (Firmware missing)"

I'm new to Linux and I've been having trouble with the wireless/wifi not showing up on my Ubuntu on a VM. I'm currently running Ubuntu on a virtual machine and the wifi on my Dell Inspiron 15 runs perfectly fine but I've been trying to get it to work on Ubuntu for the past 2 days with no luck. Searched everywhere on the web to try and find a solution to no avail.
Ubuntu Version: 14.04
Additional Drivers: no additional drivers show up in settings even with Ethernet connection.
This is the ouput when I type "sudo lshw -class network": http://imgur.com/a/H1pT1
Hello everyone! So I've got a very difficult WiFi USB, its a Realtek, RTL8192eu, and it took me days of messing around to get it to work on the first computer, now I've gotten this computer wired up & have another laptop I'd like to get it working on which is a bit older, running 14.04 32 bit.. I figure maybe there's a way to copy the driver files or to repackage them as a .deb perhaps? I've tried the PPA "Hanipouspilot", doesn't seem to work unfortunately. My apologies if I'm missing anything, I very rarely post on any forums!
Hey. Been puzzling for quite a while over this one. This started happening recently, around september on Ubuntu 16.04 and continued through to 16.10 after upgrading.
I've been having issues with networking not recovering after waking up from suspend. Network appears connected correctly and I see nothing untoward on the system logs. I cannot connect to anything at all. Restarting network manager or networking service doesn't help.
This issue solves itself if I log off and log back in - not a reboot, but simply logging off back to the Unity greeter. Inspecting logs I can see network hasn't been reconnected when logging off and then back on again. The only change is logging off my user account and logging back in.
Something similar happens with the ethernet connection, but instead of after a resume it happens after I unplug the cable and put it back in. Again, logging off solves the connectivity issues.
I have already tried with a new, pristine user account and the issue is still there.
How do I check the security of a network with the programs nmap & zenmap? I wanne check if my ipv6 network is safe enough with one of the two programs.
I've just done a fresh install of Ubuntu 16.04.1 (previously I was on 14.04.1) on my HP MicroServer. The server is used as a headless server to host music, movies, tv shows & photos to 1 Mac and 2 Raspberry Pi's running OpenELEC.
I previously used SMB but thought this time I would give NFS a go but I don't seem to be getting anywhere fast :-(
my /etc/exports file reads
Code:
# /etc/exports: the access control list for filesystems which may be exported # to NFS clients. See exports(5). # # Example for NFSv2 and NFSv3: # /srv/homes hostname1(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) hostname2(ro,sync,no_subtree_check) # # Example for NFSv4: # /srv/nfs4 gss/krb5i(rw,sync,fsid=0,crossmnt,no_subtree_check) # /srv/nfs4/homes gss/krb5i(rw,sync,no_subtree_check) #
When I try to connect to the NFS share from OS X it tells me I do not have permission and when I try to connect from one of the Pi's I can see the share '192.168.0.7' (which is the servers IP) and then when selected it shows me the three shares, /media/movies, /media/storage & /media/tv_shows but I can't see any of the files contained within.
I am not able to connect to our corporate wireless network using an Ubuntu 16.04 machine. On Windows 7 everything works fine. It tries to connect, but keeps asking for a password. As I said, this username/password combination works fine in Windows. Also, I can connect fine from my Android phone.
Details of the connection gleaned from my windows machine:
Security type: WPA2-Enterprise
Encryption type: AES
Authentication method: PEAP
Authentication mode: Computer authentication
no certificate in use
I also had a look at the file in /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/SNI and saw that my identity and password were shown correctly.
I ran the wifi test script and attached the file. The network I am trying to connect to is called SNI. Several channels are shown available in the report.
What can I do to fix this?
I am trying to figure out what is going wrong ob my recent ubuntu 16.04.01 LTS installation concerning openssl and SSL connections to other systems (and to my system).

First off, I know the Ubuntu Forums may not seem like the proper place to post a thread like this, but just bear with me for a moment. I believe my issue is more of a network type problem, rather than having to do with Minecraft specifically. I've tried getting help on other Minecraft server oriented forums, but haven't had any luck, and I feel like I might be able to get better help from people who are more knowledgeable about servers, firewalls, etc.
So, just some background here... I have an OVH VPS that I've run a Minecraft server (Spigot) on for a few months. I haven't been able to connect to it recently (it times out) and I'm not sure why. I'm able to log in via SSH, other people can connect to it, and I'm able to connect to other servers. By default, it runs on port 25565, but if I change it to another port, then I am able to connect. Normally, this might suggest a firewall issue (I think), but I don't think that's the case since other people can connect, and I can connect to other servers. I've tried adding a firewall exception for port 25565 anyway and it still didn't work.
I thought that perhaps my router had something to do with it, so I connected directly to my modem via an Ethernet cable and it still wouldn't connect. I'm totally stumped and out of ideas at this point.
It just doesn't make sense that it used to work, other people can connect, I can connect to other servers, and that I am able to connect when it's running on a port other than 25565.
