SSH over WiFi - long delay (5 mins) before login possible

Hi,

Im running Ubuntu server 16.04.1 LTS on an Intel NUC. I've configured my network settings with the help of network manager (nmcli). Everything seems to be working fine:

When I disconnect my ethernet the wifi takes over. If I connect ethernet that takes over etc.

My only problem is: when booting without ethernet (with only wifi) it takes around 5 minutes for SSH to start working. I can ping the computer instantly but SSH gives me "connection refused". After five minutes SSH starts working. If the ethernet cable has been connected after (or on) reboot then SSH over wifi (once ethernet is disconnected) works instantaneously.

Anyone has any idea what the problem could be?

I am apparently shockingly behind the times knowledge wise. I seem to recall a time (many many years ago) when tethering your computer to a cell phone was illegal... but maybe that was on an "unlimited" service...?

Just cut the cable from Comcast and got netBlazer (Boston, MA) it works VDSL2 over the old phone lines to the basement where they connect to their new fiberoptic to the building roof antenna. (This 1970's 20 story building gets about 95Mbits/sec max - far more than I would ever need.) It works flawlessly, but I was wondering what about an emergency - can I use my phone (Moto G 3rd gen)? Went to phone settings/more/tethering and portable hotspot/ USB tethering (I had connected my mini usb to the computer's usb) and LO, Ubuntu connected immediately! IMMEDIATELY!!! I of course called ATT (GoPhone) and checked that it was legal and of course it was. Very scary how little I know!!! I do have 5 or 6 gig rollover there so it would never be a worry.

300/10 points for Ubuntu!

[ubuntu] proxychains dns resolution failure

Trying to get proxychains working on a 16.04 Desktop and can't get the dns lookup working.
My proxychains.conf looks like this

[ubuntu] Lenovo ideapad Z410 issues.

Hey guys, happy friday,
i'm new in the forum, sorry if the thread is not good.
I'm been using Ubuntu (16.04 right now) in my notebook Lenovo ideapad Z410 for almost two years now,
I want to share my experience and the issues that i'm having, maybe you can give me some advice about them.

1. WiFi is really really slow and have a lot of cuts. (BCM43142)
2. Suspend is not working, i'm not able to came back from a suspension.
3. Brightness control is not working (it was working some time ago).
I only was able to change brightness with this command:
echo 150 | sudo tee /sys/class/backlight/intel_backlight/brightness

Of course the worst issue is the WiFi one.
I have try really a lot of solutions that i found without success.

[SOLVED] No Wi-fi on lubuntu 16.10...still

I decided to install Lubuntu 16.10 on an Acer AOD250, since W10 wrecked my hard drive a couple weeks ago (and was sluggish anyway). This IS my first rodeo with any linux distro, so I am very wet behind the ears when it comes to using the terminal.
I was initially plagued with no internet connection whatsoever. After a night of struggles, I managed to get the LAN connection to finally work, expecting it would also enable the wireless connection. It did not.:(

Things I've tried:
Additional Drivers->selected 'Broadcom STA' , rebooted
sudo apt-get update
install/reinstall bcmwl-kernel-source
install/reinstall firmware-b43-lpphy-installer; would not install, apparently obsolete
ndiswrapper with windows driver (i very likely did this wrong)

No wifi on a netbook really sucks, but after hours of googling and trying different methods, I figured I either suck at the search bar or suck at following instructions.

I should also add that I'm pretty certain it's a Broadcom unit, unless the following command only gives info based on the installed driver.

I tried to post this before; for some reason, it's not showing. Apologies for double-posting.

I have a Dell Latitude E4200. Don't know squat 'bout Linux.

I tried troubleshooting and installing a Broadcom driver. Got the following error massage:

[SOLVED] Ralink RT5390 wifi issues on LXLE 16.04.1

Hi,

I'm having issues connecting to the wifi networks on LXLE 16.04.1, my card is:

Network controller [0280]: Ralink corp. RT5390 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe [1814:5390]
Subsystem: Foxconn International, Inc. RT5390 Wireless 802.11n 1T/1R PCIe [105b:e054]
Kernel driver in use: rt2800pci

So basically I can see all the networks available but I have trouble connecting. I have two routers which I can see on the network list but most of the time I can only connect to one, the other usually I'm not able to connect to; and when I do connect the speed is low on either of them.
The network that I'm able to connect to is ZON-7FB0, the other one is ZON-7FB0_2.

My laptop is an Asus X55U-SX038H.

[kubuntu] usb wireless adapter has stopped working

Hi, I'm running Kubuntu 16.04. Until recently my Raylink RT2870/RT3070 wireless usb adapter, was working fine. Now it is recognized when I type lsusb, but it will no longer connect. I have tested both the adapter and my usb ports and they are fine. Please let me know if you need any additional information. Thanks in advance. Scott I dual boot my machine with windows 10 and have no trouble when I'm running under it.

No key store is available or it's incorrectly setup. By default GNOME keyring can do this. Under Xfce it is recommended to enable “GNOME services” under “Session and Startup settings”. To make sure, that the output of “gnome-keyring –startup” is correctly sent to the environment, you can add “export `gnome-keyring-daemon –start`” to .xinitrc.

i am trying to setup virtual machine's network by networkd, i config a dummy bridge with dhcpv4 server: IP Pool 192.168.51.0/24, default DNS server 192.168.1.1 (external router)

My Windows 7 is able to get IP 192.168.51.6 by DHCP, but the DNS server is not set

i captured the DHCP REPLY package by tcpdump, DNS server is not found

Recently the connection to Ubuntu main servers (ip starting with 91.189...) from Japan is very unreliable. My usual download speed from the main server was 5-12MiB/s, but recently it is often 20-250KiB/s. I thought that this was a problem with my isp, but it is a problem with many other ISP's (possibly a problem for all of Japan).

Tested ISP's:
-OCN [Open Computer Network] (tested @ computer store 122.26.185.19x) http://www.ocn.ne.jp/
-So-Net [Sony Network Communications] (tested @ internet cafe 118.238.212.x and
Dell store 59.147.202.24x) http://www.so-net.ne.jp/
-iij (tested @ 2 computer stores and home connection) https://www.iijmio.jp/
-@T-COM (tested @ internet cafe) http://www.t-com.ne.jp/

-probably more ISP's are affected, I only listed the ones that I tested (100% of which are affected)
-I also tested download speed from cdimage.debian (always ~14MiB/s) and http://ftp.riken.jp/ (always ~50MiB/s). This shows that the problem is limited to the Ubuntu servers.
-all types of downloads to Ubuntu servers (apt-get, update, synaptic, cdimage etc...) are affected
-This problem started some time between July 2016 and September 2016
-Download speed is slow (20-250KiB/s) for about 70% of the day. 30% of the day is normal (5-12MiB/s). When speed is fast or slow seems to be random.
-(at times when speed is slow) sometimes canceling and restarting a download over and over again will eventually get a fast connection (5-12MiB/s). This only works occasionally.

-Does anyone know why this is suddenly a problem?
-Who should I contact to fix this problem?

[ubuntu] Can't reach openvpn Client from server and also from other reachable clients

Hello Everyone!


I'm having troubles stablishing communitacion between a client to another clients through a configurated OpenVPN Server. After months of investigation I've done almost everything to try this to work. I need your help.

Here's the detailed thing:

- I have configurated an OpenVPN Server which is on a VPS I own.
- Every client can get access to the server using the config file [I've 1 laptop (Ubuntu 16.04), 1 desktop pc (Windows 10), and 1 iPhone (iOS 9.3); both with differents config files].

The thing is I want to access to any service from any client (a web server, ssh access, any service). I've tried to connect the desktop pc and the iphone to the vpn server, and I can get communication between them two (Ping requests and responses, Web services, anything).
The weird thing is when I connect my laptop (ubuntu) to the vpn server. It does connect. I can reach the desktop pc and the iphone. BUT THEY CANNOT GET ACCESS TO UBUNTU LAPTOP!
I've checked ufw, I defenitely disabled it. Then I cleaned up iptables, Ip forwarding from sysctl is enabled.
I've checked ufw, sysctl, iptables, ip_forwarding in the OpenVPN server as well and everything looks ok. (Because I can access between desktop pc and iphone. So, It might work for everything.) Also, i've connected an Android tablet and also is reacheable.
What I want to do is that I can reach my Ubuntu Laptop, thus my other devices can get access to it.
NOTE: I've ran Wireshark on my Ubuntu Laptop, and I sent ping requests, webpage GET request, and EVERYTHING GOES IN, but it can't send any response. It's like the laptop can't get the way to communicate back to the other devices which are requesting.

Lenovo S10.3t and Nexus 5

Any ideas why the hostpot isn't listed?

I tried using the hotspot from my chromebook - no problem at all. The SSID isn't listed at all on the Lenovo, yet it works just fine on my home router.

Running from iso kubuntu-16.10-desktop-amd64.iso. Connected to home wifi and wifi keeps disconnecting and reconnecting.Debian 8 works well with it.I've seen others in the forum with similar problems but I can't fix the problem.Appreciate any advice. Thanks in advance.

Hey guys, i'm just a boy who wanna change from windows 10 to Ubuntu. So I installed it on my laptop with dual boot with w10, but it doesn't connect the wifi. I mean it looks like it has conected but i can't navigate through the web with firefox so....i can't do much.

The other problem is when trying to install the latest ubuntu version LTS on another pc(dual boot also). When i boot the USB with the installation stuff it says "d-sub out of range", i know the problem is smth about my monitor,but i don't know how to solve it so i can install it :(

So I am new to Ubuntu and Linux in general(finally had it with Windows) but anxious to learn. However I am having trouble getting my internet to work. I have searched the interwebs for hours trying to find solutions and nothing works also anything I can find with similar problems is 10 months to multiple years old.

Both my Ethernet and wireless will not connect. My wireless can see my home network but will not connect. I would prefer to use Ethernet but if wireless is my only option that's ok. I have tried resetting network manager, I have tried disabling ipv6 and I have tried editing etc/network/interfaces.

Please any help would be greatly appreciated. I don't understand what's wrong. Again, new to Linux so not sure what other information is needed.

I have a TP-LINK AC600 USB wireless device that worked perfectly fine on Ubuntu 14.04 after following the directions for building the kernel module here: http://askubuntu.com/questions/72656...-14-04-lts-x64

After building this same module on Ubuntu 16.04 the device appears in my network manager, but it is listed as "device not managed". I have edited the file /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf to be the contents:

But it did not have any effect. Any suggestions for how to get this wireless card working under 16.04?
