Ubuntu Mate 16.04 wifi login problem?

$

I've done several searches online for something that would resolve this issue but found nothing to date. Search here also didn't find anything so here goes.

Ubuntu Mate 16.04 won't login to my wifi connections? The drivers for the RT8191 USB wireless adapter I'm using are obviously there as I can see the 3 different wireless router connections available to me but NONE of them will connect? I can put the password in and it tries to connect but never does on any of the 3 connections that I have. It sits there for a minute or two then the login screen appears again like the password is wrong, but it's not. I've used that wireless adapter on other systems including Mint 17.2 and .3 along with Ubuntu 14.04 with no problems. It also works fine with the various flavors of Windowz that I have loaded.

FYI this seems to be a problem with anything 16.04 as I tried Lubuntu 16.04 back a couple of weeks ago and got the same results.

So can someone tell me how to get this Ubuntu Mate 16.04 to log in to my routers?

Thanks

For a couple weeks I have been struggling with an issue where my wifi with no rhyme or reason stops functioning until I reboot.
I am relatively inexperienced with Linux but I have a handle on the terminal and can follow instructions.
I am also new to this forum so I apologize if I make any mistakes.

Info:

What I know

  • As far as I can tell there is no pattern to when the wifi cuts out
  • The wifi icon changes and eventually disappears
  • no networks show under the wifi page in settings
  • under the word wifi it says unavailable
  • Probably not a network manager issue
    • sudo service network-manager restart has no effect

  • lshw -C network shows *-network when wifi is functioning but *-network DISABLED once the wifi is no longer working
  • firmware seems up to date although there is something about firmware in the dmesg | grep iwl log but that happens before the wifi cuts out so I dont think it is the issue

Things I have tried
  • Updating the firmware
  • Various kernel versions from 4.13 to 4.15
  • Reinstalling Ubuntu
  • Scouring Google with patent pending Google fu and search terms from things like dmesg
  • sudo service network-manager restart
  • disabling wifi power saving in TLP
  • sudo ifconfig wlp3s0 down/up
    • returns an I/O error

I have been dealing with this for a while so if I remember anything I have tried I will add it.
If I could get this fixed I could finally get on with enjoying ubuntu, any help would really be appreciated!

[ubuntu] VSFTPD SFTP speeds from outside network cap at ~1.3mbps

System: ubuntu Server 17

So my SFTP transfer speeds via VSFTPD are getting capped at 1.3/1.4mbps when transferring to a connection outside of my home network, where the server is located. (For instance, transferring from my server, which is on my home connection, to my filezilla client at work, it caps at ~1.4mbps.) This issue repeats with any FTP client I use.

When transferring via SFTP within my home network I get speeds of 10mbps+, but outside they are much slower. The SFTP connection connects fine and it is set to connect on a higher port that is not commonly used by anything.

Could it be my ISP that is somehow throttling the transfer speeds? Is there anything else I can try to change within VSFTPD or my router settings to try and fix this issue?

Thanks in advance!

Ethernet and Wireless "Network Unclaimed" on New Install of Ubuntu 14.04

Hello all,

I am a new Ubuntu user who recently installed Ubuntu 14.04 to dual boot with Windows 10. My issue is that neither the wireless nor ethernet menu's are showing up so I cannot establish an internet connection. This is essential to doing anything so it's the first thing I'd like to take care of. Both ethernet and wireless work in windows so I know the router isn't the problem. I've done a bit of searching and it seems like this is due to me not having the right drivers installed but I don't know where to get them. I've seen people with similar issues get their problems solved so I've copied some of the outputs some people have asked them to post on their threads. Hopefully this will expedite my debugging process.

Please note that I'm as new as a user as possible so detailed instructions would be greatly appreciated. Also, keep in mind that I DO NOT HAVE INTERNET. Most of the solutions I've seen online ask you to "download" this or "apt-get" that. I can download something in Windows and access it from Ubuntu but please don't suggest things that require me to have internet within Ubuntu.

Below, I have the output to certain commands (in bold) that I've seen other people ask for:
ifconfig

WNDA3100v2 Wireless Adapter Installation Issues on Ubuntu 16.04.3

Hello!

I am having plenty of issues getting my WNDA3100v2 Wireless Adapter to function in Ubuntu 16.04.3. I have tried several tutorials I've found through Google (which I failed to copy the links for future reference), but to no avail.

The furthest I get is being able to see that a driver (I believe it to be the correct one) is installed and active, but there is still no wireless.

I ran through both sticky's before posting but I had no success with chili555's post (lspci -nn -d 14e4: returns nothing).

I have uploaded my wireless-info.txt file per bapoumba's thread. That file is located here: https://paste.ubuntu.com/26254536/

Please let me know if you need anymore information. I will await further instructions, if any :)

Hi,

I'm having trouble installing the driver for my wifi adapter, specifically the one found at this link

I tried installing the drivers the manufacturer linked to on the product page but upon running install.sh I get several compilation errors:

[lubuntu] WiFi connection detected as Ethernet - iwconfig no wireless extensions

Hi everyone! New to the forum and also an Ubuntu noob.
I've been driving myself up a wall for several hours now, so I'm caving and asking for help.

So, since I'm studying network security, I thought I'd give this tutorial https://www.makeuseof.com/tag/wpapro...-secure-reaver a try and see if I could get my WiFi password to show up. I have a VM with Lubuntu 16.04 on it.

After several bumps along the way, I finally got to the last step, "airmon-ng start wlan0". This gives me a short list of processes that might interfere, then there's: Interface/Chipset/Driver and... absolutely nothing below them.

So I tried iwconfig and indeed, what I get is:
lo no wireless extensions.
enp0s3 no wireless extensions.

This is weird, seeing as I'm on a laptop and connected through WiFi (which I know for a fact, as the Ethernet cable is not even physically plugged in!).
That's when I went to check the Network Connections panels and realised my WiFi connection is actually marked down as Ethernet.

Any help or pointers at all on what might be wrong? I'm really at my wits' end over here.
I will supply all necessary extra info of course!!

Thanks in advance.

Wi-Fi hotspot offer no Internet sharing (Ubuntu 17.10)

smb shares problem. left for awhile mounted doesnt start copying (Delay Problem).

Hi folks.

I have some strange issues with SMB shares from my Server in Ubuntu. When left connected to network shares for awhile i run into a issue upon copying to the Server it gets stuck on Prepairing Files & Music that is being played from the server stops for a second until the copying is started. This seems to be a issue in Ubuntu. Doesnt happen in Windows 7 or 10. However i have tried NFS Shares but doesnt work there is a problem upon mounting the Server then once mounting it will refuse to stay mounted so i scrapped NFS due to it doesnt work. Just need to fix the SMB problem.

Sometimes when listening to music i have a issue where it paused then starts playing again.

I have also built & compiled my own Kernel but still have the issue with SMB Shares.

I have modified the smb.conf file changed to SMB 3.0 speeds up files transfers a lot but still have a issue. Its like its gone to sleep then waiting for it to wake up.

The Network card im using is a Intel 82572EI Single Port PCI-E Ethernet card i know thats not the issue as i have a few of these cards and tried others. I have tried onboard realtek Ethernet card on my Motherboard but still same problem. originally i thought it was a issue with the Realtek Stack but still the same problem with the Intel Card but i know that the Intel Stack in Linux is stable so i know its not the issue with the Drivers.

Any ideas & help would be appreciated.

Thank You.

Jack.

HI Guys....

Just installed xubuntu on a Thinkpad E470 and cannot get a decent wifi signal. Laptop isn't far from the router and other devices receive decent signal from same spot. There is nothing in the way that would be blocking the signal either. Thank you for taking the time to read my post.

[ubuntu] Samba Share Path

Folks,

Going mad here.

Running 16:04 on a laptop, also on my network I have two Raspberry Pi devices, both with samba server running.

One share definition displays exactly as expected but for some reason the other one has the following;

Code:

[TVH-Recordings]
comment = For testing only
        writable = yes
        create mode = 775
        path = /media/CORSAIR/Recordings/
        valid users = osmc
        directory mode = 775
        browseable = yes
        read only = no

For some reason when I browse the network both CORSAIR and Recordings show as directories.

I don't want CORSAIR to show, any ideas what may be the problem appreciated.

As mentioned, other R-Pi displays share exactly as required.

[ubuntu] Copy large files from cifs mount freeze server

I've mounted a cifs share via /etc/fstab and I can access it without any problems.

But when I try to copy large files (>2GB) my system freeze and I cannot ping it until it recovers after 5-10 minutes. When I copy smaller files (~700mb) the system freezes to but after 1-2min the file was copied to the correct location.

Is there anything I can do so that the copy process doesn't it up all my resources and freezes the server?

A well-known "eduroam" wifi disconnecting problem

Hello guys,

I have really disaster and annoying problem: my computer always randomly disconnects from "eduroam" wifi without any reason. Then I have to connect to it again. I investigated dozens of similar and same issues in the forums and some web-sites like "stackoverflow", however I didn't find any clear reason and solution for my problem. That's why I'm writing here.

I want to tell, that solution to connect to concrete wifi instance does not work. The wifi still disconnects.

I found here good script, which brings all necessary information into one file for solving the problem: https://pastebin.ubuntu.com/26266068/

I'm using Lenovo Y50-70 computer and running Linux Ubuntu 16.04 along with Windows 10 (dual-boot). I want to confirm that Wifi works perfectly on Windows (everywhere) and on Linux only using not enterprise wifi.

Eduroam's connection information:
  • Security: WPA & WPA2 Enterprise
  • Authentication: PEAP
  • CA Certificate: AddTrust_External_Root.pem
  • PEAP version: Automatic
  • Inner auth: MSCHAPv2

I tried these solutions (but none of them fixed my problem):

I would appreciate any helpful information.

Thank you for your time.

[SOLVED] Unable to detect Killer Wireless network adapter (16.04)

$

Hi all,

I've got a fresh new installation of Ubuntu 16.04 on an Asus Zenbook that previously had windows 10. I installed Ubuntu 16.04 over Windows 10 and everything was going great. I was able to reboot, sleep, shutdown without any problems and I would automatically reconnect to my wifi. However this morning I am unable to connect to wifi. I think the problem is that Ubuntu can't detect my wireless adapter now.

I've input the following code:

Code:

sudo lshw -c network
and the output I get is:

Code:

*-network                      description: Ethernet interface
      physical id: 1
      logical name: enp0s20f0u2
      serial: 06:be:42:9a:55:2e
      capabilities: ethernet physical
      configuration: broadcast=yes driver=rndis_host driverversion=22-Aug-2005 firmware=RNDIS device ip=192.168.42.29 link=yes multicast=yes

I've tried updating firmware with no success. I have a Killer Wireless 1535 network adapter that worked fine yesterday. For some reason today when I booted up my Bluetooth and wifi adapter just aren't being detected even though it worked perfectly yesterday.

I would greatly appreciate any and all help.

EDIT:

I am a stupid, I was able to fix my problem with the sudo apt-get update and sudo apt dist-upgrade codes.

Can't change to static IP

Hi all,

I'm baffled, trying the change the network interface from a DHCP lease to a static IP. I'm using Linux-Mint 18.3.

I have tried both methods outlines in https://linuxhint.com/change-from-dhcp- ... ss-ubuntu/, and the result stubbornly stays on the DHCP-assigned IP.

The current content of my /stc/network/interfaces files is

interfaces(5) file used by ifup(8) and ifdown(8)
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback

# iface dsl-provider inet ppp
# pre-up /sbin/ifconfig --help up # line maintained by pppoeconf
# provider dsl-provider

auto eth0
# iface eth0 inet dhcp
iface eth0 inet static
address 10.1.1.10
netmask 255.0.0.0
gateway 10.1.1.1
dns-nameservers 10.1.1.1 8.8.8.8

And after trying the second method, it appears the network -manager configuration is lost altogether, and will not accept new connections: the screenshot of the applet is attached:

USB Wi-Fi Adapter hardware ID different beteen reboot and unplug/replug

$

Hi all,

I'm having an issue with my Linksys AE1200 802.11bgn Wireless Adapter, or the Broadcom BCM43235, on my Ubuntu 16.04 LTS (i386) install. During the install, the Ubuntu Installer recognized my wireless adapter, and allowed me to connect to a Wi-Fi network during the installation without an issue. However, upon first boot, Ubuntu did not find the USB wireless adapter driver. After running lsusb, I get the following output:

Quote:

Bus 001 Device 004: ID 13b1:0bdc Linksys
Bus 001 Device 003: ID 058f:6362 Alcor Micro Corp. Flash Card Reader/Writer
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 413c:3200 Dell Computer Corp. Mouse
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
However, if I unplug and replug the USB wireless adapter, it successfully works, and I am able to connect to a Wi-Fi network without an issue. Running lsusb again gives me the following output:

Quote:

Bus 001 Device 003: ID 058f:6362 Alcor Micro Corp. Flash Card Reader/Writer
Bus 001 Device 005: ID 13b1:0039 Linksys AE1200 802.11bgn Wireless Adapter [Broadcom BCM43235]
Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub
Bus 002 Device 002: ID 413c:3200 Dell Computer Corp. Mouse
Bus 002 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0001 Linux Foundation 1.1 root hub
While this works for the time being, I must unplug/replug upon every reboot. Otherwise, I am back to the other device ID and no connection.

I'm not sure why the device IDs would be different-- coming from a Windows background, I imagine this is why Ubuntu is struggling to find a device driver. Does anyone have any suggestions to resolve this issue? Thanks in advance.
