I've made a Ubuntu lamp server and it works for like 10mins and after that I can't connect to it. The only way I can connect is if I connect to it from a device before 10 mins but it only works on that device. But if I turn off that device I connect to the server it can't connect. Please help. Btw I can't connect using my web browser, ssh, etc

[SOLVED] Panda Wireless N USB / Ubuntu 17.04 not connecting to Xfinity router
Hi,
I've been struggling to get an old wireless card working and gave up and bought a Panda USB adapter instead. Ubuntu 17.04 seems to have recognized it as soon as I plugged it in, but I can't get it to connect to our xfinity cable box. Several other computers in the house connect to the cable router box and comcast cheerfully tells me the router is working fine. I can see the correct SSID and can see the password for the wireless network is correct. I have the computer wired via ethernet so it's fairly close (1 meter?) to the router and I can access the internet. But I'd like to move this computer somewhere more convenient. At this point, I might "hail Mary" and upgrade to 17.10. Anyone see anything in the pastebin? Thanks for all your help!

[ubuntu] Can not connect to WiFi anymore: Authentication timed out, Intel 5100, Vostro 1220
Hi folks!
I had this laptop running Ubuntu beautifully for almost the entire past 10 years, when my wireless connection started to hick-up in September 2017 or so.
What's weird is that occassionally, I can connect to the wifi without changing anything, and once I am logged-in, it seems to work for a while, even after a reboot or hibernate. I got about 15 devices using my wifi without any issues, including another Ubuntu 17.10 laptop. The issue existed on a 16.10.3 installation, a fresh re-install of that, and now 17.10. At the moment, I can't connect to my Wifi at all, but I can always scan for it (and find it). Dmesg outputs that the connection has timed out.
I've tried every possible combination of option parameters to iwlwifi, to no avail. I'm starting to believe this might be a hardware issue on this old boy, maybe a broken antenna cable or something. Please tell me it's not :-)
Thanks
therealsuperuser

Lenovo T460: patchy wifi with Ubuntu 16.04.
I have recently installed 16.04 on a Lenovo T460 which has an Intel 8260 chipset. With the original ucode firmware (21), I can get something like 1-2 minutes of connectivity before the wifi drops out. A drop-out does not mean that I lose connectivity to the router, I still have an IP address, but all connection to the internet just suddenly halts, with all browser tabs hanging until a time-out occurs. Disconnecting the wifi from the router followed by reconnecting gives me another 1-2 minutes of connectivity.
I tried changing the ucode in /lib/firmware by renaming some of the files there. I found that an older version: iwlwifi-8000C-13.ucode gives me maybe 30 minutes upto a couple of hours of connectivity, but still eventually drops out.
Here is the results from the wireless-info script: http://paste.ubuntu.com/26284975/
I see many people with the same problem, but nothing I've tried has worked. Could some of the gurus here help with their expert advice? I've currently moved near to my router and am connected through a wire cable.
Thanks!

Kubuntu 17.04 HotSpot/wifi disconnects
Hi, (Laptop is asus ux305ca with intel 7265 wlan chip)
my problem is that i get wifi disconnects from time to time when im using the hotspot of my android device with my laptop (think i also got them with my normal router, but i only use my android hot spot for a year now so not really sure how it is now). very rarely but consistently. also got them with ubuntu 16.04 and linux mint 18.3.
in kde the wifi symbol will get grey and a yellow questionmark appears on the wifi symbol. i just have to disconnect and connect again and everything works fine then for another 5-15 hours or so. the problem only is with linux, windows works fine in that regard.
hope my description is understandable. if i have to input some commands to get some specific information pls tell me, im just an average linux user :)
thanks.

[ubuntu] ubuntu 16.04 frequent WiFi disconnects (with multiple different adapters)
I have tried multiple different wifi adapters and USB tethering with my android phone but it still disconnects at least every few mins, up to every 30 secs. I am not sure how to diagnose the issue, that would be a good start, any help would be much appreciated.
P.S. I am running ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS

[server] An openldap guide that works for 16.0.4 lts?
Hi Folks.
I mostly deal with the Windows domains at work, but we do have a bunch of Cent OS and some ubuntu servers doing various things that I sometimes log into to make changes or correct errors.
I thought it would be fun to play with ldap on a test environment.
I found a guide on the openldap website that pointed me to a configuration file that doesn't seem to exist?
So where do I start? What am I supposed to be editing?
What guide works?
I'm running ubuntu server 16.0.4 lts without the gui and have installed:
slapd
ldap-tools.
Thanks for any help folks, been avoiding ldap for months.

Ubuntu Server 16.04 (Router) Wifi Drops with Intel 3168
I've been reading a ton of similar posts to mine, but I haven't had any success with the changes I've made so far. I've been attempting to setup a router running Ubuntu Server 16.04, but the wifi drops seemingly at random. Here's a picture of my current network setup:
![]()
Everything from Mountain View RV up is not managed by me, so if it ends up being that the wifi is just unstable, so be it. I'm just trying to eliminate any instability in my own network, and learning about Ubuntu as I go along.
Anyways, as you can see from the diagram above, I have my router using it's Intel 3168 WiFi adapter acting as the WAN port and one of its 2 Ethernet NICs acting as a LAN port. The router is also the primary (and only) DNS and DHCP server for my LAN. The WLAN port receives a DHCP address from the WAP above it.
I've run the standard wireless-info script I've seen in countless other threads here, and linked it here: https://paste.ubuntu.com/26288078/
For a broad overview of what I've tried so far, I've tried various iwlwifi options, such as turning off 802.11n functionality, disabling Bluetooth coexistance, disabling power-saving mode, etc.
After discovering that the iwlwifi driver was not looking to load the most current (as I understand it) 3168 firmware, I updated the driver (via updating the Linux kernel).
For the setup of interfaces, iptables, dhcp, and dns I followed along with 2 different tutorials:
https://arstechnica.com/gadgets/2016...r-from-scratch
https://killtacknine.com/building-an...rk-interfaces/
The hardware itself is a custom build. ASRock MB with an Intel Celeron processor are the 2 main components. Side-note: ASRock materials claim the WiFi adapter on-board is a 3160, but Ubuntu detects it as a 3168. Grrrr.

Ubuntu 16.04 LTS Netgear AC1200 USB Wifi - Wifi stops working after several minutes
Recently decided to make an Ubuntu gaming box. If this fails, I'm going to go back to Windows... SO please help me stay away from Windows LOL.
I installed a driver for my Netgear AC1200 USB wifi card following the instructions on https://github.com/jurobystricky/Netgear-A6210.
That almost got my wifi working. Then I had to edit the NetworkManager.conf to change managed to equal true.
This got my wifi card working. I thought all was great until the wifi stopped working after a few minutes. I did not get a wifi disconnected message. Disabling wifi and restarting it does not work. I have to reboot in order to get the wifi working again. When I do so, it only works for a few minutes.
Please help... all of my Googling has been fruitless.
Wireless script info below:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/26295190/
Note... wifi not working even after a reboot now.

How can I route all traffic through TOR?
Hi guys and gals,
Im trying to get all my traffic routed through tor (I do understand that this may leave me susceptible to privacy concerns).
I followed the TOR documentation here:
https://trac.torproject.org/projects...ansparentProxy
It tells me to edit my /etc/resolve.conf and to add this line:
This line is already in my resolv.conf so I left this out
(my resolv.conf file)
Then i ran this script but changed my interface to w1lps0:
I ensured TOR was running first but as soon as i run the script I get no connection through my browser.
Can anyone help with this?
Many thanks,
Rizzle

Ubuntu router/AP Wireless speed download much slower than upload
Happy New Years all! I'm starting my new year with my first post here. I'm no Ubuntu export, so please be gentle :D
I recently got a 100/100Mbps fiber connection and my old router/ap (TP-LINK) only gave me only about 35Mbps wireless down but close to 100 up. I thought it might be due to the router being old (tried disabling WMM as suggested on forums but no success) so I have now tried building a router/AP on a mini-PC with Ubuntu (16.04) by following guides on the Internet (this and this) but the problem persists.
When I use a cable I always get close to 100/100 in the online speed tests I have done (both to Internet and when downloading files directly from the router which is even faster). The wireless speed seems now to always be around 45Mbps, which makes me suspect I somehow only get 54Mbps in the download direction. For uploading I get close to 100mbps. The wireless adapter should be able to do 802.11n 300mbps according to the spec. I get the same result from all wireless clients (pc's and phones) and the distance between clients and router when testing is under 1 meter with no obstacles.
There are no close neighbours, so no interfering other wifis. I have tried all different available channels, but performance is the same or a little bit slower on all channels.
I have found other threads about this problem on different forums on the Internet but had no success with the solutions suggested. Most common suggestion is to turn off wmm or set "ht_capab=[SHORT-GI-40][HT40+][HT40-][DSSS_CCK-40]" which I have tried and did not make a difference.
My basic setup is:
Mini-PC Intel Celeron Dual Core 1.8ghz Cpu Media Box
Ubuntu 16.04 with 4.10 kernel
1 wireless adapter (RTL8192CE PCIe Wireless Network Adapter), two ethernet adapters.
hostapd for wireless
DHCP: isc-dhcp-server (using bridge interface with the wireless and one of the ethernet adapters)
Firewall: UFW
NAT via UFW
DNS: bind9
Here are my configurations, if something is missing, please just let me know and I will provide it.
My hostapd.conf:
Result from "iw dev wlp2s0 station dump" (used it to see if wmm was on/off, dont know if it is usefull)
Result from "iw list":
Result from wireless-info here: https://paste.ubuntu.com/26299040/
See attached images for result from wifi analyser and result from bandwith speed test (Swedish bredbandskollen.se, the standard site for testing in my Country).

I really appreciate some help with this, I'm quite a few hours into this now without any progress. Thanks! /Fredrik

[SOLVED] NFSv2 under 17.10
Just upgraded my laptop to 17.10 and my normal embedded dev system that happily worked yesterday refuses to boot - it starts from uboot by loading a kernel from an NFS mounted filesystem on the laptop with:
Loading: *** ERROR: File lookup fail
poking around with wireshark shows me that it's failing because uboot is asking using NFSv2 and the server on the Ubuntu laptop only supports v3/4, checking in /proc/fs/nfsd/versions we get
-2 +3 +4 +4.1 +4.2
So how do I turn NFSv2 back on on Ubuntu? searching the net shows lots of examples of now to turn it off, but none for turning it on

How to install OurLink AC600 USB Wifi Adapter on Ubuntu 16.04.03 LTS?
I've recently bought this wifi adapter from Amazon and it works great on Windows 10 https://www.ourlink.us/collections/s...x-10-6-10-11-5
Unfortunately, I could not get any of the drivers to work on Ubuntu and was wondering if anyone can help? I have an ethernet connection ready. I tried some rtl8812au drivers but still no luck. I am also new to Ubuntu so step-by-step instructions would be greatly appreciated. :)

[ubuntu] rfkill does not list my wireless LAN
Im running Ubuntu 16.04 on my laptop and now I cannot enable my wifi. I believe the issue is that when i run rfkill list all, my wireless LAN does not even show up. It is not an issue with my laptop having a physical switch on my laptop that enables/disables my wifi (I checked this). In "additional drivers" in "Software and updates" my wireless card is not even listed. I am posting below some terminal commands I have seen needed in previous forums for insight of my issue. Thank you in advance if anyone knows what I need to do.

[gnome] Question about open VPN and autoconnecting
I use a VPN service that as of now lacks a native client, therefore I use it via OpenVPN. On the native client, it is possible to block all regular internet traffic upon disconnection to the VPN. In other words, ensuring that all internet traffic passes through the VPN regardless if the wifi is inconsistent.
I know this is possible to achieve via IP tables, however that is a bit beyond me, so I would rather seek alternatives before I go down that route.
I also know that it is possible to auto connect to VPNs on specific internet connections using "nm-connection-editor" however I am not sure if that will force all traffic to go through the VPN or if some may pass without going through the VPN.
If there is any other possible solution, I would appreciate it, otherwise I suppose I will have to get familiar with how IPtables work.

Ethernet LAN cable not detected on Kubuntu
Hi all,
I hope I post this in the right forum and it hasn't been asked before - otherwise, sorry. This is my first post. I have found a lot of people with variations to the same problem online, but wasn't able to find a fix that actually works for me so far. So hoping that someone can give me some more individual advice. I am a complete newbie to Linux, so please excuse any stupid questions I might ask :?
I have Kubuntu installed on my HP Pavilion laptop (dual boot with Win10, from which I writing right now) and was trying to install the Realtek driver r8723de there following the instructions in this post, now that it has finally been released.
But turns out I don't even get so far, since I can't download things because I can't connect to the Internet using a LAN cable on Kubuntu either. Tried two different cables which both work on the Windows partition of my laptop, but not on Linux. What's weird is that it worked before, when I first plugged the cable in with Linux. I then downloaded some updates etc. and everything still worked fine. Switched the laptop off and tried it again another day. First thing that happened, the network connection completely crashed on every device. After a couple of restarts it worked fine again, except the ethernet cable wasn't found on my Linux device anymore. I presume some download that required a reboot to finish caused this, but I don't know for sure what happened.
I'm wondering if any of you guys can help me to get my Wifi running? Would be great to finally be able to actually use the Linux partition. Please let me know exactly what pieces of code/output you need. Thanks a lot!
