Hello

Everything works just fine before I install Ubuntu 18.04 (before i had 16.04). Wifi is stable abut 10-15 min then disconnect and after a while connects itself again. What should I do, please help! :(

18.04 MacBook Pro Broadcom no internet.

I have a MacBook Pro the firmware is Broadcom BCM43xx 1.0, ubuntu 18.04.
It says no wifi adapter found and I can't seem to connect via ethernet either (despite the internet working perfectly on the same machine when I'm not using VirtualBox).
I have read countless threads and have tried various options and I am no further forward. Most of the commands return error messages (that aren't shown in other threads), or the file can't be found. I am new to all of this and I'm now completely stuck, please help.

No wi-fi adapter found - ubuntu 18.04.1 dual boot

Hi

This is my very first post to the forum and my first experience with Linux, so excuse in advance if my question is unclear.

I just got a new Windows 10 PC and have installed ubuntu 18.04.1 as dual boot. In Windows my wifi works fine, but in ubuntu I cannot connect and it says "No wi-fi adapter found". Attached is the wireless-info.txt if that helps?

Any advice?

[kubuntu] Kubuntu 18.04.1 decreasing network speed after some update

$

Hi!
On fresh installed system the internet speed approaching the expected values (250/20 Mbit/s). After some update (it is about 1-2 weeks) the download speed lose to ~ 20 Mbit/s.

This phenomenon is exist on both older and newer kernels. Same software environment but different hardware component, then the problem has occurred. That this means for me this phenomena is not caused by hardware problem.

What can cause this and how can it be solved?

You see below output of some network debug commands:

Code:

18.04 - Dell Vostro - Network adapter not working - no WiFi or Ethernet

I have a Dell Vostro 1520, and I just installed Kubuntu 18.04. I know this is a known issue, but I have no WiFi or Ethernet connection. I have the BCM 4312 Broadcom Adapter. Because I don't have a wired connection, I'm not able to download or install the correct adapter.

[lubuntu] Cannot access Lubuntu 16.04 shared folder in from Windows 10

For a while, I've been unable to access my Lubuntu 16.04 shared folder from Windows 10.
In Windows 10 > File explorer > Network, the Ubuntu 16.04 machine simply doesn't show up.

What I have on my Lubuntu machine:

  • Both machines are on the same network, connected to the same router via Ethernet.

  • The Lubuntu machine has a folder named /public, which has full permissions, i.e. chmod a+rwx.

  • The /public folder is mounted with fuse via /etc/fstab, which forces full public permissions on all folders and files within it. Here is the line from /etc/fstab.
    Code:

    /public /public fuse.bindfs force-user=nobody,force-group=nogroup,create-for-user=nobody,create-for-group=nogroup,create-with-perms=ugo+rwD,chmod-ignore,chmod-allow-x,chown-deny,chgrp-deny,perms=ugo+rwD 0 0

  • Samba is installed, and /etc/samba contains the following lines, having used testparm to check and reformat.
    Code:

    [public]
            comment = Public on Elise
            path = /public
            read only = No
            create mask = 0666
            directory mask = 0777
            directory mode = 0777

I don't know what else to do. Please help.

installing drivers on a bootable usb

Total novice with Linux.
Running Ubuntu 18.04 LTS on USB drive as tryout.
Computer= Minix running normally on Windows 10 pro.
Broadcom wifi drivers.
Ubuntu cannot see any wifi or offer a relevant download through software and updates.
I gather this is a common problem.
If I do manage to get the driver (somehow!) it will ask me to reboot.
If I reboot I lose the driver as persistence does not keep drivers.
So I can't do it?
Do I understand this correctly?
Thanks

[lubuntu] Unable to use my D-Link DWM-157 USB internet stick

Hey everyone

I read numerous thread talking about how to install this USB stick, all of them explaining a different procedure... I tried out some things but nothing has worked so far.
I read somewhere that probably the driver is already included in Ubuntu, so I would just have to configure a connexion in the network manager. I did it, selecting mobile broadband and the name of my provider and lft all the rest blank or default.
Now after restarting, when I plug the stick, I get this pop-up error message :

Unable to mount D-Link
Error mounting /dev/sr1 at /media/caravan/D-Link Modem: Command-line `mount -t "iso9660" -o "uhelper=udisks2,nodev,nosuid,uid=1000,gid=1000,io charset=utf8,mode=0400,dmode=0500" "/dev/sr1" "/media/caravan/D-Link Modem"' exited with non-zero exit status 32: mount: /dev/sr1 is not a valid block device

On the stick only red light is turning on..
Can someone help ? Do I actually need to install something ?
thx !

I have Windows 7 and I upgraded from Ubuntu 16 to 18.04.01 2 days ago on my Lenovo Thinkpad X230. The internet works on Windows but in Ubuntu, the wifi is connected to my home network but the internet isn't working. I have tried many solutions posted here but none seem to work. Below is the output of my wireless-info.txt file. Any help is appreciated as I am not able to figure out what the problem is. Thanks!

[ubuntu] Slow Wifi Connection - Rosewill RNX-AC1300 (Broadcom 4360)

Hello,

I recently installed Ubuntu Server 18.04 LTS and I am trying to use it as a file server. I am trying to stream some video files from the server but the local wifi connection to my router is not providing a good enough connection to play the files without buffering. I have tested this with a wired connection, it works fine, over wifi it buffers.

I am using a Rosewill RNX-AC1300 and I installed the bcmwl-kernel-source according to the sticky. I am connected however my suspicion is that I am not using the AC connection, probably N or even G...My router is broadcasting 5Ghz in mixed n/ac mode since my laptop only has N, I would like the server to connect in AC mode though.

How can I force the server to connect in AC mode? Do the current drivers even support AC? See below the relevant output of the script:

I am concerned because in the iwlist scan my network is showing a maximum of 54Mb/s, shouldn't this be 300Mb/s for N and 867 Mb/s for AC?

Is there a way to see the actual speed (server --> router) of my current wifi connection? In other peoples logs I see the link speed but can't seem to see what mine is.

Thanks in advance!

Hi,
Now I use kubuntu 18.04 and used ubuntu 16.04 before, the same problem.
On linux the speed is 10Mb/s but on Windows 7 (dual boot) the speed of the link is 100Mb/s.
I read a couple of posts about my network interface issues with slow speed, nothing to help.

Add new static IP to DRBL network

Greetings Users,

I am quite new to setting up a more complex network so I am asking some help from you. I got a small cluster, configured with a master node with Ub 16.04 installed, which is handling few slave nodes through DRBL in headless mode (i.e. the OS is not copied onto the nodes). Now I would like to add to the cluster a NAS unit, for which ideally I would like to give a static IP address, and then add the corresponding line to fstab. My question then is: how can I add the static IP address to the master node so that it is associated with the NAS when I hook it up to the switch?

Thank you in advance,

Aldo

I did a clean instllation and an upgrade from ubuntu 16.04, both find my iMac on the local network but cannot find computers running windows on the local network.

The one upgraded demages the working 16.04 local network configuration.

File Sharing between remote sites

I have two remote sites. Each site has it's own file servers and local file sharing. The workstations at each site are Windows. Each site has approximately 2TB of files which could potentially be accessed by up to 10 users. For a long time these sites operated independently from each other. We are now seeing much more need for the sites to access the same data.

What would be the preferred way to share the files so that either site could access the information one the other, preferably using tools in the Standard Ubuntu distribution and WIndows desktops.

[SOLVED] No network connectivity in Lubuntu 18.10 release?

Just booted up Lubuntu 18.10 64-bit and there seems to be a problem with the network manager.
Here is a picture with the image booted in a VMware Workstation VM:
Capture.PNG
As you can see the network interface is down.
The emulated interface is the well known e1000.
This also happened on a physical host, so is unlikely a driver problem. The physical host had several network adapters and all were down.
I managed to manually bring an interface up on the physical host and it was functional for the respective session, but not in the first try.
Was NM tested before release?

[lubuntu] wifi dongle drivers

Hi everyone,
I've been having problems with my old wifi dongle (getting online but zero Mbps speed), so I bought a new one. However, the Linux drivers for the new dongle are on a CD Rom and don't show up in additional drivers and being a novice all my attempts have thus far failed.

So, my question is how to I install drivers from a CD Rom?

Many thanks

Kev

P.S.

When I type:

cd /media/cdrom#

into the terminal it replies with:

bash: cd: /media/cdrom#: No such file or directory

bind9

Ok, this one is throwing me off.

I have bind9 installed and a records setup for my cluster, and the proper domain and nameserver 127.0.0.1 in my /etc/resolv.conf

When I have 127.0.1.1 servername.domain servername in my /etc/hosts, I can connect to all of my servers by name, but when I comment it out and have the private IP in /etc/hosts, I have to use nodename.domain to ssh into them, but can ping them and do nslookup.

I'm just wondering what the reason behind that is?

Hello,

I recently installed ubuntu 18.04 on a lenovo thinkpad E580. Everything works great except for the wifi. At first my wifi card was not recognized. This was fixed by disabling secure boot. Now I get activation failed every time I try to connect to a network. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
