[ubuntu] How do I add RiseUpVPN to Settings->Network->VPN?

$

Can someone tell me please how to integrate RiseUpVPN into Ubuntu because the app itself runs from a notification icon only and that doesn't show up on the top bar for me. So the only way for me to use it is to add it manually in Settings->Network if that's possible.

Thanks

[ubuntu] HP Omen, wifi hard blocked in Ubuntu (imposible to switch on) with dual boot

$

Hi everyone,

First of all, I want to apologize for my bad english and for that I'm a beginner in the world of linux.

I have Windows 10 installed in my HP Omen, and I've installed dual boot with Ubuntu. All works fine, except for the wireless... (ethernet is ok)

I can't switch it on, and show that no wifi adapter found. (Appears but hard blocked with rfkill list)

Here is the script : http://paste.ubuntu.com/p/8PdmYwJp3p/

Seems that I have the same problem than : https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2414598 (unsolved)

I've tried almost all the typical things (even too much!) :
- its sure that this is not the button off the keypad!
- secure boot is disabled in the BIOS
- as you can see I blacklisted all of the things I saw linked with this problem on the web.
- this lines too :

sudo apt-get install dkms git build-essential
git clone -b extended https://github.com/lwfinger/rtlwifi_new.git
sudo dkms add ./rtlwifi_new
sudo dkms install rtlwifi-new/0.6
sudo cp -r rtlwifi_new/firmware/rtlwifi/ /lib/firmware/rtlwifi/
echo "options rtl8723de ant_sel=2" | sudo tee /etc/modprobe.d/rtl8723de.conf
Thing I've not done : reset the setup default in the BIOS (this will not change my dual boot?)

All kind of help more than welcomed, I'm trying to fix to for months :'(

Thanks.

Panda Pau06 not working!

Hey guys, i'm completely new to linux and this is my first post here.
So i've been learning a lot of system administration of linux and stuff and have a decent grasp of the basic commands.
I wanted to move onto learning networking and was guided to buy a wireless network adapter. I ended up buying Panda PAU06 cause of later aspiring to use it in kali-linux to do pen-testing and all.
Right now, my issue is i'm not able to install the driver for the adapter into my ubuntu. I have a virtualbox and i have downloaded the extension needed to run USB in virtualbox and i followed the instructions provided by the company in their manual found at http://www.pandawireless.com/downloa...inux_v1.0s.pdf
but when i run "make", i cannot find the rt3070sta.ko in the /tftpboot folder
and i dont know how to proceed, can anyone please help me?

Can Someone Help Me Understand Mounting?

I am mounting a USB drive in fstab:

Code:

UUID=fa9d3519-6125-4121-9810-b2822e398780        /mnt/shop.data        ext3        defaults,nofail,noatime        0        0
that I am sharing across the network via a samba share. First of all, I cannot find a way that will unmount that drive because even when NOTHING is accessing that share, it refuses to unmount telling me that it is in user. lsof and fuser both report nothing utilizing that share.

Aside from that, though, I finally did a -l [lazy] unmount of the drive and when I unplugged it, I couldn't remount it with [mount -a] - I had to physically remove power from the system to regain control.

What I need to know is... once a USB drive, that is samba shared, is mounted in fstab, how can I safely/effectively unmount that drive and then remount it when I want to.

[xubuntu] KDE Connect Problems

Every day for the past three days after I log on I get a drop down error. It states. "GSConnect: Network error. Error binding to address. Address already in use."

I take it this has something to do with my installation of KDE Connect which I did three days ago and have been getting the error for three days. At the bottom of the error it has something about info. When I click it it opens a Gifthub page. I scroll down to "Netwok error" and click on it, but nothing opens. Can anyone give me any jhelp on this. Oh yeah, I couldn't get my LG G7 Thinqu and Ubuntu 18.04 connected.

Making all ubuntu connections pass through proxy

$

Hi,

I have been playing with ubuntu configuration all day trying to set a system wide proxy without luck. My goal is to make all connections in the system to pass through a proxy. Or al least, if this is not possible make all connections not passing through proxy fail.

I have added the proxy configuration to /etc/environments, I have set it in network settings too (ubuntu UI) and well, it works for firefox but for example apt is still connecting through my own ip not the proxy. On the other hand I need to configure Android Studio to use the proxy too. I know I can configure android studio proxy through its own settings but I don't want to configure every program with its own settings (Some programs have an option to use the system proxy but others doesn't).

Is there any chance to accomplish this?

Cheers.

[ubuntu] kismet kismet_ui.conf file not in /etc/kismet

I installed kismet via Synaptic Pkg Mgr, also via apt-get install. I want to add to the display columns: 1)signal strength and 2)MAC addresses. The /etc/kismet/kismet_ui.conf file is not present, and documentation says that is where these modifications are made. The kismet.conf file is there and i modified the ncsource.

Ques1: where do i go to make additions to the displayed columns?

Ques2: what is the difference between a network list versus a client list?

Ques3: how do i insert an image from my desktop?

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 18.4/Synology DS211J - copy from NAS is OK, copy to NAS is not?

Hi Experts,
First post here - hope its the right place :-)

I have just got a strange issue with my DS211j (DSM 6.2.1-23824 Update 6). I use it primarily as storage for "evaluation video's" - sizes varies between 6 to 10 GB.

I have uploaded more than 200 files during the past 2 years - and can play them on my Kodi boxes.
Yesterday I was trying to upload a new file, size 7 GB. The upload started fine, BUT when approx 2 GB was done, I got an error message, something with "Power error", and connection to NAS was dropped.

I have restarted the NAS - my router and my PC - still no luck!

But I can copy from the NAS to my PC, and I can copy from a USB drive connected to the NAS.

Connection is standard wired gigabit, from a Ubuntu 18 PC (kernel version 4.15.0-46) - through a D-Link router to my DS211j.

Any help would be appreciated -Thanks

how to connect to sftp server

Ok, in an older version of ubuntu i was running, there was the file>connect to option in gnome. clicking this would open up a new window where i could pick ssh, port number host etc.

i can not find that now.

Also, i have generated my keys with ssh-keygen. The keys work, i have tested it from a windows machine and from ubuntu using filezilla.

now i want to connect via the filemanager but not sure how.

I have added the ssh-add /home/matt/.ssh/<keyname> in autostartup. Is there anymore i have to do for the key? was this the best way?

Thanks

Trying to make a simple LAN (WIN10 Ubuntu)

Hello,

I try to create a very simple local network between two of my laptops. One has windows 10 installed and the second one Ubuntu 18.04.
Right now I am stuck on Ubuntu side, first of all I use external (USB) network card from Edimax and it causes a lot of problem. For setting the LAN I follow this article http://www.ubuntugeek.com/ubuntu-net...mand-line.html it says "...replace eth0 with your network interface card" - and this is the place where I am stuck right now. When I type "lsusb" I don't see that external network card. If I unplug and plug it to other usb port it will show up for a while but another "lsusb" and its gone again...why is that? For the moment it is listed its record says "Bus 0001 Device 012 ID xxxx ASIX Elec. Corp. AX88179 Gigabit Ethernet"
So how should I replace eth0 with it?
Can you please guide me gow to set up this network properly?

Thanks in advace :)

[ubuntu] Wireless & Wired networking not working after upgrading to 18.04 LTS

Dear all,

Recently I upgraded Ubuntu on my laptop from 16.04 LTS to 18.04 LTS. But after the update, NEITHER wireless NOR wired network is working any more. When I say not working, I mean I can see the WLAN/LAN adaptors, I can see the previously-saved wireless network is available and the computer is trying to connect to it. But the connection fails all the time. It keeps on trying to connect and finally says "disconnected you are now offline".

My laptop is a Lenovo Y410P. The model of my WIFI adaptor is Intel Corporation Wireless 7260 (I am mainly using WIFI but as I described the wired network is not working either so I don't know if that makes my situation different from others' cases).

I have run the wireless-info script on this forum and attached the result compressed file in this post. Please see which part is going wrong. Thank you very much!

Cheers,
Wei

Slower than expected wifi with Intel 8625 on ubuntu 18.04

Decided 2019 was the year to give Ubuntu (kubuntu) a good go and so far getting there but I seem to have an issue with the wifi speed on my laptop
From what it appears I sticking at only n speeds and not moving to ac speeds
the wifi setup at of is a unifi system running WPA2 (not mixed mode)

Window laptop on the same wifi : 56MB/s
Linux laptop : 15MB/s

I tried to fix the issue by disabling N and also turning off power management.
Disabling N dropped the speed to approx 3MB/sec
Turning off power management did nothing.

I am running a weird SSID, to rule this out I also flicked to a standard SSID

These SSID are all on the same network

How to set my own DNS servers in 18.04?

$

This is driving me nuts. I have looked up several different guides pertaining to how to set my own DNS servers in 18.04, but every 15 minutes it gets set back to some default that I can't even locate a configuration for. Somehow the DNS server gets changed and I have to re-enable to connection through NetworkManager's nm-applet for it to be changed back. I have tried deleting the symlink /etc/resolv.conf and just adding my own, but then NetworkManager overwrote it, and only has one nameserver in it which doesn't make sense because with the nm-applet I have added my own. I also found a TechRepublic article describing how to configure it with NetPlan, but my configuration files didn't match what I was seeing at all, and seemed to be setup to use NetworkManager.

So how the hell can I choose a DNS server to use and make it permanent and not have to reset NetworkManager every 15 minutes? I'm so infuriated by this. Such a great "upgrade" from 16.04.

Here's resolv.conf

Code:

# Generated by NetworkManager
nameserver 127.0.0.53
kenny@ryzen:~$ ls -lah /etc/resolv.conf
-rw-r--r-- 1 root root 52 Mar 30 13:45 /etc/resolv.conf

Here's my netplan

Code:

# Let NetworkManager manage all devices on this system
network:
  version: 2
  renderer: NetworkManager

I don't know what else to show. I would REALLY appreciate the ability to just add them to /etc/resolv.conf like I use to. Can someone tell me how to re-enable that ability?

If I can't do that, can I just replace the NetPlan configuration with what I saw in the TechRepublic article and expect it to work or is there some other conflicting network management service that's going to contradict the settings I make there too?

How to simply setup and connect to Ethernet connection please?

$

Hi,

I've just installed Disco Dingo (dev branch) on an old laptop and would simply like to connect online (wired) with my provider login and password.
(In windows we setup a new connection and just enter username and password.)

Would you be kind enough to walk me through this in Ubuntu please?

The router/ethernet cable is connected and the router and laptops have been rebooted, etc. The router is working OK because my Windows PC is connected to this forum.

Thanks . (I look forward to using Ubuntu on this old but still OK laptop - to replace Windows 7.)

(I see that ipconfig is not recognized anymore I believe in this build.)

I ran the software update for Ubuntu 14.04.06 on 31March2019, then was unable to reconnect to my AP20000G Amped Wireless point after reboot.

The result of the pastebinit check should be attached.

Using other local devices I can connect to my wireless system, but not from the laptop.

Thank you for any suggestions.

Shared Printing: Win7 as Server, Linux Mint as Client

Despite I have a somewhat sideways distro from Ubuntu, it seems that the problem is not restricted to even Ubuntus, so I will be glad to have any responses here...

There are two computers in my LAN: Windows 7 Ultimate workstation with physically connected printer and Mint 19 laptop. The workstation is Ethernet-connected to a router with an internet connection; the laptop is connected to the router through Wi-Fi.

I could establish bi-directional file sharing between computers by trial-and-error with help of some google results (namely, I had created a shared folder on Win7 and had successfully accessed it from Linux; then vice-versa).

Then goes the problem. The printer is set up as SHARED on Win7 machine, I can see it from Linux, but cannot make it to print anything. As for now, I discovered the following:

When I press the button `Print Test Page' in system-config-printer it asks for username and password and no known combination of these do not have any effect --- it continues asking all the time. As soon as I press Cancel then, my Test Page in printer queue is `Held for authentification' and in printer properties NT_STATUS_ACCESS_DENIED is displayed.

Switching ufw dows not change anything. On Windows side Guest account is active and Password Protected Sharing is disabled. Printer permissions are set for Guest and I can print under Guest account locally on that Win7 machine with no problem. LOCAL is the name of workgroup.

So, what am I really need to do to finally get that linux printing work? With Windows on laptop - no problems, linux file sharing - no problems, but no printing. At all.
