[ubuntu] Ubuntu 14.04 LTS Wifi Drops

Hello!
I relocated my computer to a house with a new network yesterday and I have been having issues connecting to the wifi here. At the old location, my connection worked fine. I have been trying lots of things since last night, so far with only limited success. The output of the code from the sticky thread is below.

My usual adapter is a refurb NetGear WNDA3100v2 running the bcmn43xx64 driver through ndiswrapper, which will work for an undetermined amount of time before suddenly not working. I have tried another adapter, a small Edimax adapter, and it works for a short while more before crapping out itself. One of the more baffling things to me is that when it appears that I have dropped connection, the wifi applet on the taskbar will usually show that I am still connected despite the fact that I do not get any . The latest thing that I have tried is the disabling of "n" networking on my driver using:

which has allowed me to connect and stay connected for longer, but it will still drop. It has seemed that it may be related to high internet load. For instance the first and second drops after the fix above occured while I was doing an Ookla speedtest. When I do drop though, it requires a reboot to get it working again, although that doesn't always work, requiring even more reboots. (Actually, I lost connection while writing this and didn't notice until I found myself unable to post as the wifi applet still showed I was connected. I then had to reboot twice to get it to work, with the NetGear adapter not appearing to work on the first reboot)

This has been quite frustrating. Any and all help would be much appreciated! Thank you in advance!

[EDIT] It appears that a reboot is not neccessarily required. After it loses connection and I notice, I can set it to reconnect where it will reconnect with enough time.

Ubuntu 14.04 lts No network devices available

I am a very newbie to linux. I recently tried to dual boot my laptop with windows 10 and ubuntu, but accidentally (or "stupidly" rather) installed ubuntu os on top of windows os; as the result, my windows is gone now and I can't set up wifi on ubuntu 14.04. It said no network devices available. I had tried many way like update or install driver, but nothing works. Some errors I kept getting were: unable to locate package, failed to fetch (when run apt-get update), lo no wireless extensions (when run iwconfig)
My laptop model is Acer Aspire r7
The network controller is Broadcom Corporation BCM43228 802.11a/b/g/n [14e4:4359]

I really really need help. I can't use my laptop at all now. Thank you

Greetings,

I'm having problems with my wireless disconnecting and refusing to make reconnect attempts, let alone detection. Basically what happens is I may be connected for a day or so, and eventually my netbook will disconnect. After, it won't show any access points unless I cycle wireless off then on. After cycled it will connect and last roughly another day or so and repeat.

I've ran the stickied script as suggested and attached the resulting text file.

If it's any help the make of the netbook is Acer 532h-2588.

I am trying to host a server online, I have people connecting to my home ip and using port setup in my home router they are sent to a computer with DD-WRT router (computer 1) from here I want another computer on the internal network behind the 2nd router to be a DMZ (computer 2). From there, the people connecting would be sent out of the DD-WRT router and into another computer through ssh (computer 3). Is this possible, the port I'm using is 25565 and where would I put my firewall software?

Hello!

Wifi in my acer aspire 5742G stops working after some minutes of use, as in it stops recognizing any wifi networks. When I reboot it starts working again.
So far I've tried everything, including this tutorial (which gave me the PCI.ID 14e4:4357) and reinstalling the system.

I'm very much a newbie at this, so I don't know what to try next.

this may sound off topic for this forum but it actually is relevant, here is what happened: i have a Belkin DB600 that has NEVER worked on this comp since upgrading to 12.04. First I tried everything I could find or think of to install the rtl8192du driver, which should be the correct NON-Windows driver. I was never able to get it installed so I started looking at different things and I finally came to figure out that ndiswrapper was missing so I wouldn't be able to use the windows wireless drivers. I followed the specific instructions and installed ndiswrapper and its components and according to everything I've seen so far the driver is installed, What I believe is happening is when the installation script gets to the modprobe part it starts to error. I checked out why it was erroring and the error codes were saying that all modprobe files need to be conf. files. After looking in modprobe.d there were two New Folders in there. I have no idea how they got there but they're causing any wireless attempts to end in errors. I can't move them, rename them or anything cuz its owned by root. So I checked in Users and added myself to the root group and also changed the advanced settings on my account to root also, so I SHOULD be able to move those files, it's two directories that ended up in there just name new folder and new folder 2 and they're both empty but they screw up the script. Can anyone help me fix modprobe.d and get this wireless working... I believe the two stupid directories are all that's keeping it from working. Thanx for the help and your time, this is a weird one.

It is usually good but can be intermittent at times, I am looking for some sort of monitor that can record and display the connection history so I can prove to our supplier when it is bad. I have had a look in the Software centre but not rally sure what I need.

I installed Ubuntu 14.04 LTS as a dual boot on windows 7. I am able to connect Ubuntu to Wifi, however Ethernet Wired connections doesn't seem to be working. Also, eth0 doesn't show up on ifconfig -a. Any help on getting the wired connection sorted?

[SOLVED] Wifi connected but no internet after 10 ~ 20 minutes

After 10 ~ 20 minutes of usage, the Internet connection stops working.
The Wifi icon says it is connected, but the Internet connection is not on.
If I disconnect the Wifi manually, I can't turn it back on.

If I reboot the computer, it works fine. This is really frustrating.

Hi,

I want to isolate part of my home network for the purpose of creating a lab environment.Obviously I don't want what I'm doing to affect my Home network or Internet access, so I'm trying to create a subnet.

  • I went into the router I'm using for the subnet and altered the DHCP pool to contain a range of 10.0.0.1-5 for the machines.

  • I gave the internal IP address of the router (gateway and server) as 10.0.0.254.

  • I made the external IP address of the router 192.168.1.145 so that my primary router saw it on the Home Network.


It's not working, though. I'm not sure if I've followed all the correcrt steps and what I'm missing.

Can anyone explain the process?

After I close my laptop lid, and open it back, the Wifi stops working. The icon on the top bar is still on, but there seems to be no Internet connection.

How do I fix this? The only way to get it back on is to reboot the system.

First of all, I want to apologize for making previous threads without reading the terms and other threads that explained how to make a proper thread.

I own an Asus-S551LN laptop and I have installed Ubuntu 15.04 alongside Windows 10. After some days of usage, I found that the wireless connection is constantly dropping. While the Wireless icon in the top bar indicates that it's connected, there seems to be no Internet connection. This happens after a couple of minutes of usage and I have to reboot the entire system to get back an Internet connection.

The problem happens most often but not exclusively when the laptop lid closes, the system suspends or when the battery percentage is relatively low.

How can I fix this issue and get a stable connection?

So the wifi card on my new computer isn't supported yet.

So I bought a Netgear wnda3100v3 wifi usb. From what I can tell the fastest way to get it running is to install the ndiswrapper. But the main problem that I am having is that all of the instructions I have found didn't work. So now I am asking for direct instructions.

[ubuntu] Stumped by Wifi trouble

Hi guys,
Firstly, please excuse any my ignorance of both correct procedure on the forums and also with the OS, I've never used either of these before.

Ok, to the misuse; I've recently come over to Ubuntu from Windows 8.1 as I got sick and tired of paying for bugs and inefficiency. I've never before used a Linux system but am slowly coming to grips with the terminal system, etc.
I seem to have everything running to my liking but my wifi connection is horrific; I can connect with no problem but the download speed is incredibly. I've down a bit of searching around to try and rectify the issue but nothing has worked. I recently stumbled onto a wifi script that will diagnose the issue and have saved the results, I'm hoping someone can take a look at it and help me out.
