[ubuntu] Complete newbie with questions

Hi, I am new on this forum, and completely new to Linux and Ubuntu experience. I have an old Dell Inspiron 1515 laptop with (T6500 processor/ 3GB DDR2/ GMA4500) and the latest Ubuntu 17.04 OS runs fine on the USB but it does not picks up the Wi-Fi driver. I searched the Internet and I came up with Shell commands to install it, of which I have little knowledge. My question is how do I install Wi-Fi through shell command? Secondly, I tried installing Ubuntu on HDD but despite configuring the details I couldn't get it to install it on my HDD. Though, it works through USB. Thirdly, what is Ubuntu Kylin?

Issue with dlink go-usb-n150

In trying to install the driver for the dlink n150. I got the driver off their website and in following the instructions provided but it's not working.

When I go to the folder where all the driver files are and run "make" I get a error 2 recipe for target "Linux" failed.

Wireless network scan fails

Hello all,

I am having difficulty detecting wireless networks on my Linux system:

Code:

>> iwlist wlo1 scan
wlo1      No scan results

Unfortunately, this has come to the point where I am willing to throw whatever I can at the problem! Please let me know if you have any suggestions at all about how to fix it. I wish that I could reinstall the OS from CD, but the OS download is blocked by a firewall at my only wired access point. (I am also concerned that a number of important updates are similarly blocked.)

Potentially relevant information, together with my attempts to resolve the issue:

Code:

>> sudo apt-get update
>> sudo apt-get upgrade

Code:

>> nmcli dev
DEVICE          TYPE      STATE        CONNECTION
enxe8802ee78a2e  ethernet  connected    Wired connection 1

eno1            ethernet  unavailable  --

(The commented lines below resulted from a failed attempt to resolve this.)

I recently updated from 16.04 LTS (to 16.10 and then immediately) to 17.04. Everything seems fine, but I can no longer access computers on my network by name. I am also getting a lot of "Input/Output" errors when I try to access an NFS server on my network. Does anyone have any idea why? Everything worked fine in 16.04.

If I do an nslookup by ip, it seems to know the name of the machine, but if I look it up by name, it cannot find it. I should note that other machines on this network have no trouble resolving these same computer names.

Can't get TP-LINK TL-WN821N V5 letting work in Ubuntu 10.04

Hello, a few days ago i bought a TP-LINK TL-WN821N V5 and i can't get it to work.

"I'm a noob with linux"

What i have tried:

1: I have downloaded and installed ubuntu-10.04-desktop-i386 succesfully on my computer.
2: I have downloaded and installed ndiswrapper files.
3: I have downloaded driver USB Wifi Adapter from: http://www.tp-link.com/us/download/T...1N.html#Driver
4: I opened ndiswrapper and selected the .inf file from the windows XP drivers folder and restarted my computer.

Now is my question: What am i doing wrong? ,I'm really confused

IS TP-LINK TL-WN821N V5 SUPPORTED? (NOT A DONGLE?) (BOX SAYS ITS SUPPORTED)

Much thanks,

Xubuntu guest session cannot access wifi

This is exactly my situation also, but enabling for all accounts does not resolve this issue. I can log into the admin user account, sign into the wifi network, and switch over to the guest-session, and it works. However, if I log into the guest session directly, I can see the available networks but clicking them does nothing. Any other suggestions?

[ubuntu] Ubuntu on live CD dropping wireless, not detecting wired connection

I am running Ubuntu on a live usb to try and do some boot repair. Unfortunately, WiFi seems to drop randomly (and not reconnect).

Using a wired connection doesn't do anything -- it does not seem to even be detected.

I am using a SurfaceBook, and trying to connect via the live connection with a thunderbolt-ethernet adapter. This works fine on my other machines, so I can confirm that it is not a network problem.

Any ideas on how to give myself enough time to use the internet so I can run the boot-repair?

internet not working after installing usb dongle software

I am using Ubuntu 16.04. After installing the software for my Airtel 4G USB dongle, I am having a strange problem.
Internet through the dongle is working and WIFI while using the dongle on a router is also working.
Whenever I connect my Android device's internet via USB tethering or the Android hotspot, the internet does not work. I am sure it was working before installing the USB dongle software, but it will not connect now.

Networking no longer working on Ubuntu.

Ok, first of all the computer was 'killed' (the switch to the outlet my PC is on was cut off). After that I turned it back on, alas networking no lonber works, even with ethernet. Everything online is not helping and when I go to recovery menu dpkg doesn't work as it can't connect to the net.

[lubuntu] Broadcom wireless not working in LiveUSB, but works in Windows XP

I'm attempting to use a Lubuntu 16.04 LiveUSB with my old Windows XP laptop, a Dell Inspiron E1505.

In the Additional Drivers section, Broadcom wireless, it says device is not working and when I attempt to use the proprietary driver, it fails, but when I log on to Windows XP, the device is working.

Any chance I can fix this issue so I can use the Internet in my LiveUSB?

Unfortunately, I have no access to a physical connection at the moment.

Passing traffic between two interfaces

I am trying to pass data between two nic cards on my server. Here is the setup: enp1s0 = wanenp3s0 = lan

Here is what I put in my iptables file:
Code:

iptables -t nat -A POSTROUTING -i enp1s0 -s 192.168.1.0/24 -j SNAT --to-source 192.168.2.1
Received this error when trying to restore from it:
Code:

iptables-restore: line 1 failed
wan side = 192.168.1.0/24

I set ipv4 forwarding = 1 already.

[ubuntu] 16.04 In Network Conn.>VPN Conn., 'Add a VPN connection' disabled

I have been trying to set up VPN in Ubuntu 16.04 LTS.

After installed the ShrewSoft VPN access manager through 'Software', I could not understand what needs to be done. For instance, I did not know what host name or IP address needed to be entered in the Add>General>Remote Host field. Tutorials seemed to suggest that at least one VPN network manager had to be installed first. Hence, I installed the OpenVPN and Cisco network managers through the terminal. Then I came across the following page --
https://support.onevpn.com/knowledge...16-04-openvpn/
It says I need to go through certain steps from Network Connections>VPN Connections>Add a VPN connection. But the last, namely 'Add a VPN connection,' is disabled (greyed out).

What should I do now? Would really appreciate some help and advice.

Thanks in advance!

[ubuntu] Computer swaps between wired connnection and wifi

I am currently running Ubuntu 16.04 LTS on a thinkpad t420. The thinkpad is connected via a Dock to the ethernet. I have it also set to connect automatically to my home's wifi network.

When plugged into the dock the thinkpad connects to the wired connection but I will get occasional notifications informing me that it has swapped to wireless, then swapped back to the ethernet connection, and so on. I want my computer to connect only to the wired connection when docked and only revert to the wifi if disconnected from the dock.

I have selected 'Automatically connect to this network when available' for both networks and I am unsure if there is some method to prioritise the wired connection over the wifi connection.

I've been searching for a solution to this problem but as yet can't find one. My machine crashed today and when I rebooted the wireless adaptor was missing from the start menu and I now only have the option to "Enable Networking" and not "Enable Wireless". I've been trying various things

lspci -nn gives this output

Ubuntu 16.04 - Wired Connection connects, but no internet

Hello,

New here :) I installed the latest updates yesterday and for some reason my wired connection says it's "connected", but there's no internet. I've tried searching and trying a multitude of things to get it working, but nothing seems to have helped and frankly since this is not my area of expertise I'm not sure what else to do. Below is the following information I believe is needed in order to help me figure this out, but I'm sure there's more information needed. Much appreciated!

UP/DOWN Speed Samba Share

I wanted to bounce this off someone. I have a samba share on a Ubuntu server, with gigabit nics on both ends sending and receiving, and a gigabit switch in between. All drives are non-raid platter on the server, and when I transfer a file from windows explorer from the server to my ssd on my windows box I get 113MB/s, which seems reasonable to me. When I transfer a file to the samba share from windows explorer I only get 80-95MB/s. Is this a read/write issue with the server hard drive maxing out its writing performance? If so the only option I can see is a Raid 0 setup on the server to give me a write performance between greater than 100MB/s to over come the single drive write speed. Any thoughts?

Thank you.

I use one wifi AP, which has a pretty bad signal (somewhere between -75 and -80 db), but working fine.
Well, till this update. At 16.10 I was able to connect with no problem, althrough the signal is bad. Now on 17.04, it will not connect me at all. it Asks me for password, it spins a connection icon for a while and then tells me I am disconnected.

It is probably a linux problem, because VBox has no change on it, and if I shut down my virtualized machine an try to connect on windows, I will get connected.

And I use TP-Link TL-WN722N which uses ath9k drver. Driver I have installed through repository, I do not remember the package name, but it was some kind of universal driver bundle, so I think this is still up to date, maybe upgraded with distribution.

I have also tried to go through some guides and ideas, trying to play with TXpower, or specifying BSSID MAC to saved network (as someone said it tries to reconnect to nome neighboured network aka roaming), I have also tried to find some connection trusthold somewhere in system, or just turning off the power management, but nothing was successful.

I really dont want to reinstall whole system back to 16.10, so please, someone any ideas why on 17.04 I cannot connect?

Thanks :)
