No Bluetooth adaptors found - Ubuntu 16.04

Hi,
I am trying to use my bluetooth module on Ubuntu 16.04
There appears to be Bluetooth hardware on the machine, as determined by:
> dmesg | grep -i blue[ 6455.088044] Bluetooth: Core ver 2.22
[ 6455.088073] Bluetooth: HCI device and connection manager initialized
[ 6455.088077] Bluetooth: HCI socket layer initialized
[ 6455.088079] Bluetooth: L2CAP socket layer initialized
[ 6455.088086] Bluetooth: SCO socket layer initialized

However, Ubuntu does not seem to recognise it in system settings, and running the following command seems to confirm that it is not recognised.
>sudo lspci

How can I proceed to get my system to recognise the Bluetooth hardware?

Really slow ethernet connection using Intel I217-V ethernet

Hi all.

I have an Intel I217-V network interface and my network speeds are really slow (get about 100k a second, as opposed to 22MB when I'm on windows). I've tried ubuntu 17.04 and kubuntu 17.04 and I've had no luck whatsoever. I've disabled IPv6
and a few other things that I've found on line but with no luck. I've tried to compile the official Intel drivers but there's an incompatibility between the driver and the version of GCC I have installed (the default on from the repository).

Has anyone had any luck with this?

Thanks

Hi there,

I am on Lubuntu 16.04 and the Blueman BT manager can't detect any BT adapters.

However according to Lenovo specs my model (3444-2HU) does have a "Bluetooth 4.0 wireless".

Code:

Easytether for Ubuntu having issues

$

Hello all! I'm new here and rather new to ubuntu, but I feel like I've got a semi-corporeal grasp on the concepts of the OS.

Anyways, I work in the field a ton and I rely heavily upon my ability to tether. Recently my phone and laptop busted and I've had to resort to another, but unfortunately this phone doesn't have the tethering capability my other did (EasyTether still works on Windows), even though it's on my plan, and my laptop has Ubuntu 16.04. My solution was to resort to an application that would facilitate a network connection regardless, but I'm having issues connecting to the easytether service.

I've gotten the application installed but for some reason, even though it says it is connected, I'm not getting any packet flow and the network manager isn't detecting it. I added in the line of code to the /etc/network/interfaces file that the makers of EasyTether told me to add and the network manager begun detecting a wired network, but even when easytether says it is connected, I still am not getting packet flow.

From what I've seen online it's apparently because of something with the network manager and dhclient. At this point I've exhausted my options and I haven't a clue as to how to proceed.

Do you guys have any ideas?

VLAN10 wrong configuration

Hi everyone!
I need some help with my vlan, i recently created a DHCP server but now i need a "vlan10" to plug into my router. My colleague said that the Ubuntu need a vlan10 if not the router will go haywire.
I thought i have installed vlan and type in the appropriate commands but i still cant get the IP address of the vlan that i assigned. For my dhcp server, i used the one from youtube : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EDep1eO6iKo I use eth0 instead of eth1 though!!!!
I would really appreciate and be very thankful for you time and effort!
I started using Ubuntu 1 week ago so I am very new compared to all of you, please and thank you. If you need me to post anything just let me know!

[ubuntu] Xubuntu v16.04LTS: NFS config: client's fstab, mounting shares

$

Recently deployed NFS server and client. Server and client machines run Xubuntu LTS v16.04.

Server is main desktop machine; client is a laptop usually -but not always - on the home LAN.

From the laptop client /etc/fstab file I've included the pertinent mounts:

192.168.1.22:/home/bob /media/opti960/bob nfs4 rsize=8192,wsize=8192,_netdev,nofail,intr 0 0
192.168.1.22:/mnt/backup /media/opti960/backup nfs4 rsize=8192,wsize=8192,_netdev,nofail,intr 0 0

note variables "_netdev" and "nofail"

It seems after deploying NFS, boot-time on the client is much longer, maybe 3x longer. I assume this is because fstab must wait for networking to start before it can complete its work. I hoped inclusion of "_netdev" would speed system boot, but I don't believe it has.

I included "nofail" so that when I use the laptop away from the home network, I will not obtain an error message complaining that the server shares couldn't be mounted.

MY QUESTIONS: Is my rationale correct using those variables? Is there a more elegant way to achieve satisfactory and swift boot when the server's shares aren't available to mount at the client?

MORE GENERALLY:
I changed from a Mint/Xfce distro on these machines weeks ago to Xubuntu/Xfce 64-bit, and it seems on the laptop that boot takes much, much longer than various distros of Ubuntu, Xubuntu and Mint I've used over the past couple years. Others have a similar experience?

On the laptop at boot, I get a message I don't recall seeing with other distros: "dev/sda2 clean." Dev/sda2 is the boot partition. The message leads me to believe the bootstrap process is error-checking sda2. Is that correct? Does the boot partition normally get error-checked each boot - or am I likely experiencing a hard disk issue?

Thank you in advance.

[ubuntu] Ubuntu 16.04 Dell XPS 13 bluetooth adapter dropping

So this happens to me at least once a week, that the bluetooth adapter drops, and my bluetooth mouse won't work anymore. The only way I've been able to work around this is to reboot, change the boot settings to disable bluetooth, reboot again, enable bluetooth and reboot again.

The driver seems to be up to date when I check the version with Synaptic package manager.

TIA for any help.

Ubuntu VPN connection dropped unexpetedly

Hello!

I am using ubuntu 17.04 on my desktop mashine. It connects to FreeBSD vpn server through IPSec L2TP protocol. On my client mashine I use xl2tpd and strongswan.
I use the same MTU\MRU setting on my server-side and clients-side.
Everything works, until I trying to fetch videostream from client mashine. During a couple of seconds VPN connection drops without any log messages.
When I trying do the same from FreeBSD client mashine - everything works fine. It seems, that some Ubuntu-like settings should be tuned.
Here is my Ubuntu VPN client config files

Strongswan config
Code:

# ipsec.conf - strongSwan IPsec configuration file
# basic configuration
config setup
# strictcrlpolicy=yes
# uniqueids = no
# Add connections here.
# Sample VPN connections

Network Interface Drops Every 5 days or so I217-LM

I have an IBM Think Server TS140 and every 5 days or so the network interface drops and I have to restart the server to get network connectivity again. I've seen some references online to installing an update vendor specific kernel level driver. I'm fairly new to Linux.

Can anyone tell me exactly how to get this driver updated?

I have Ubuntu 16.04.3 LTS desktop and need a WiFi usb.
Have tried EDIMAX (EW-7822ULC) ... dosen't work.
Also Panda (PAU06) ... dosen't work.
Has anyone any success with these - if not which WiFi usb can be recommended that work out-of-the box for 16.04.3 LTS ...

[ubuntu] Ubuntu Machines stopped connecting to Wifi on the same day!

For some reason, today, both of my Ubuntu 16.04 machines suddenly stopped connecting to WiFi. I have several access points, and they won't connect to any of them though we've previously been using them for quite some time. All my other stuff connects just fine with no issues (a few Windows boxes, several Apple devices, and several Android devices), so there is nothing wrong with the Wifi.

One machine is an ASUS G73SW with Intel Xeon and 16GB with an Atheros AR9285. The other is an HP with AMD8 and 4GB with an Atheros AR9485. Machines are totally different but both have Atheros just different model.

The machines "see" the Wifi. That is, I can select them from the WiFi icon and switch between them. They even show and say they are connected, but they are not.

  • ifconfig does not show an IP address.
  • ping to 8.8.8.8 gives me "Network is unreachable"
  • Restarting network manager just completely shuts down the wifi altogether and I have to reboot to get at least that much back.
  • route shows nothing (which explains the first two above)
  • Reboot does not work to solve it.
  • Deleting the wifi connections, rebooting, the connecting back to them doesn't solve it.

No matter what I do, they behave exactly the same. I suspect some kind of corruption, but don't know where to look or what to do to fix it.

[SOLVED] ./. interfaces.swp: Not enough data read

In trying to modify my /etc/network/interfaces file on my home web server, I fat-fingered something, apparently.

Now, trying to modify the file in nano, I get a blank buffer with the message:

Code:

Error reading lock file ./.interfaces.swp: Not enough data read.
I can't connect to my network.

I have tried: Rebooting, removing /etc/network/interfaces, recreating it. I'm still getting the message.

(This is not the buffer underflow bug with nano 2.4.2, since I'm using 2.5)

Edit: Sigh ... Created a dummy file with garbage in it and called it interfaces.swp. Am now able to edit interfaces.

[ubuntu] Questions about VLAN

Hi I am using a desktop (Running Ubuntu 14.04 LTS) and I got some problems.

How do I create VLAN on my desktop to connect it with the router?

The router itself have it's own IP address but I am required to make the router to have the VLAN's IP address. I have tried a lot of website but the IP address of the router is always the router original IP address, there is no sign of the VLAN IP address at all.

[kubuntu] Wireless Access Point not visible to other devices

Hello. I have bought a USB wireless dongle with the intention to create a wireless access point in Kubuntu 16.04 so other devices can share my LAN connection. I have confirmed it is capable of this by using "iw list", "AP" is listed under "supported interface types".

I go to Configure Network Connections and create a "Wi-Fi (Shared)" connection. I set it so "All users may connect to this network", set an SSID, Mode as Access Point, Restricted to the USB dongle device, NOT Hidden, and setup some Security, but when it click OK to create the network it is only visible to the device which has the USB dongle connected to it, no other devices can see it even though they are easily close enough. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

EDIT: The wireless network is now visible to other devices which can now successfully connect to it, but no IP addresses are issued. These should be issued by the router on the other end of the ethernet connection, do I have to type the router IP address in somewhere?

Hello Guys,
I have a problem, i have installed Ubuntu on my new Laptop, the HP 250 G6. I know for sure that it has a wireless card in it, but it has "vanished", i can't see it inside my system. I have tried some things, and i am pretty sure it is attached as a USB Device, which i do not understand.

New Laptop Intel Network wifi unclaimed card --Ubuntu Xenial- Clevo/Kapok

http://paste.ubuntu.com/25577635/

I'm working on my computer and been installing new software cause I just got it
And trying out LXLE, which seems to be up my alley, and it works pretty good out of the box
But I can't get Ubuntu Xenial to recognize my network card.
It remains unclaimed, but about all I done is one modprobe command for sudo modprobe iwlwifi
And looked around forums a ton, trying to diagnose it.
Can you help me?
