Hello,
1 month ago I bought the Lenovo Ideapad 310-15ABR laptop and I was there for 1 month using that computer, when I saw that everything worked well and there was no component that failed, I decided to install Ubuntu, because it came with Windows 10 default.
The installation was fast and without problems, but after reaching the use of the computer I saw that the internet failed, it was super slow and disconnected every time. I was watching on the internet that many users with Lenovo computers had this problem, but I have not found the solution that works for me, after reading hundreds of forums of the same problems.
I see people reporting this problem inserts the information generated by a script, and that's what I'm going to insert, I hope you can help me, thank you.

Hey all,
I'm trying to get a WiMAX card to work for testing purposes. The card I have is an Intel "Centrino Advanced-N + WiMAX 6250". I know Intel dropped support for the card, but the kernel still has the drivers. I think I'm close, but it's still not working.
I believe my main problem is the fact `rfkill` is reporting the card is soft blocked. When I try to unblock the card, `dmesg` reports
Code:
i2400m_usb 1-1.1:1.0: 'RF Control' (0x4602) command failed: -84 - invalid state (3)
I've tried multiple things, being near a WiMAX base station, disabling the wifi on the card, among others. I have compiled the wimax tools, network service, and other related components as well. When trying to start the wimaxd daemon, it just reports
Code:
E: RFKILL: operation failed: -115
E: wimaxll_msg_write: generic netlink ack failed: -115
Here is my wireless-info report

Thanks!

So I have a new (to me) laptop, with a large part of the decision on buying this model being that the system and contained hardware is supposedly Ubuntu Certified since 14.04! But surprise surprise, it works like ****!! From the fact you can't even boot into a Linux install without manually setting a Custom Boot line in the BIOS to the Wireless not working properly!
Why the hell does Ubuntu give laptops Ubuntu Certification when they do not work with the hardware!!!!!!???!!
https://certification.ubuntu.com/hardware/201411-16148/
But anyway, this thread is to try and get some help with getting the wireless working. It does seem more stable on some networks than others so it's not that it doesn't work at all....
First things to try from searching were to disable Power Saving, no change. Then second suggestion was to try 11n_disable modes 1 and 8, both tried and neither help. This page mentions Intel wireless firmware which should fix it but the link to the specific version is dead.
https://askubuntu.com/questions/5835...ing-connection
So what should I do to get this working? And why hasn't Ubuntu done it saying they certify the hardware as being fully compliant?!?!
I would copy and pate in results of the likes of dmesg showing the disconnects and ifconfig but as I don't have a stable enough connection to post it I can't right now! If you tell me exactly which outputs may be useful I will try and get them saved in files to post once I'm on a connection that works (maybe I can try tethering the phone when I'm somewhere with better phone reception.)

Hey guys! Bought myself a used ROG G751JY gaming laptop and already have Windows 10 on it, all set up and configured. Now, I'm trying to install Ubuntu. UEFI, Secure Boot and Fast Boot off. I'm in a live session right now to do some preps, but I can't get online.
Both wired and wireless are connected. I can access my router by going to 192.168.1.1, and everything is hunky dory there. Plus, my desktop PC is online. Plus, when I boot into Windows, everything works.
But when I try to actually access the Internet from the Ubuntu live session: no dice.
Any ideas what I could do? Any help is appreciated at this point, I really couldn't find any good troubleshooting steps for this situation so far.

I'm running a dual boot of Win10 and Ubuntu 17.04 and cannot connect to my library's public wifi network in Ubuntu i.e. the browser login window does not present itself. This, however, works fine on Windows. I ran a
wireless-info script that I found on another page and have posted the output here:
http://paste.ubuntu.com/25581408/
Can someone help? I'm just getting back into Ubuntu after a long absence.
Thanks.
Edit: I just tried connecting to a page in Firefox (instead of Google Chrome) and was presented with the login page. Not sure why it worked here, but at least it works!

I'm running Ubuntu 16.04.3 and have the bcmn43xx64.inf installed (had it saved on flash drive from when I briefly used it before in Ubuntu 16.04.2 and it worked) but the adapter is not popping to life after update. I do also have the Rosewill RNWD-N9003PCE card installed which works fine right out of the box, but I would like to get my Netgear adapter ginning again because it has noticeably greater range. Oh, I don't know a thing about Linux systems, so if you tell me what you need to know I'll fetch it.

Hi,
I come to you in need of aid with installing d-link dwa-182 usb wifi stick. I searched the forum and saw that there were some discussion about it, but unfortunately those did not help with my knowledge of ubuntu.
I'm using 16.04 lts ubuntu and I went d-link website to get the linux drivers for the stick. I tried to use the install.sh to complete the installation, but all I got was bunch of errors. Could someone help me out? I attached the lsusb to here and some of the error messages which came up with install.sh. After this installation ubuntu does not recognize the stick at all. It can be seen with lsusb, but no wifi connection is made.

I just installed Linux 16.04 on an old laptop (I know it's not the most recent but it's the one I'm using for now). I have a Ralink RT3090 wireless adapter and it does not seem to be working. It detects networks, but trying to connect has no effect when I enter the Wi-Fi password.
I'm a Linux newbie and I've been stumbling through this the best I can. I've tried seeing if the adapter was blocked (it wasn't) and I've even downloaded the driver files and tried to make them (Unsuccessfully.)
I HAVE searched the forums for answers, and it looks like a problem nearly identical to mine was solved:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread....ghlight=ralink
Assuming the solution would be similar on my own laptop, how do you determine which modules are loading at startup, and then how would I determine which one would conflict with the wireless card? As I've said this is all new to me and I hope anyone with suggestions can explain it simply.
Thanks!

Hi ubuntu people, I have one problem that drives me nuts.
I have VPS with Ubuntu Server 16.04 and EtherVPN server on it. Plus I have ASUS router with padavan firware and EtherVPN client. They connected and I can ping the server side from the client but not back. And secondly, I cannot transfer properly all of my traffic through it.
What iptables rules should I use on both sides to make all this work?

I'm a newbie, so pardon my ignorance. I have an old Dell Latitude D610 laptop that has Ubuntu installed on it. I have Linux shares that work. e.g. /home/user/Documents. I can connect from my Windows PC and I can copy files from it. This has been working for years. I have relaxed security because I'm a newbie and I just want things to work.
I have just mounted an extra hard drive in the CD/battery/drive bay and it appears as /media/user/UbuntuD but I can't connect to this from my Windows PC. I have checked the permissions and I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong. From the Windows PC, it seems to map the path, but then reports "Access is denied" when I try to connect.
When I check on the Ubuntu terminal (sudo smbstatus -S -p), it appears that the the User "nobody" is making the connection. Which is OK because I set the usershare_acl to Everyone. "nobody" works for the /home/user/Documents and /home/user/Downloads but not for the /media/user/UbuntuD. It seems to me that the /media/user/... is the problem.
I have forced the connection from a new user that I've created and verified that the 'working' shares are connecting using that new username, but the /media/user/UbuntuD still cannot be connected.
Can someone help me with what I need to do to make this work? Thanks in advance.

I've been having regular problems with wireless connections on my lenovo thinkpad t420 for several months. When I power on my laptop it works fine but after an hour or so, it will suddenly disconnect and refuse to work after that. I have to reboot to get it working again. My Mac and Windows machines do not have this problem. There are two routers in my house that work fine normally, but after this problem happens it refuses to work with either of them.
Last week I disabled power saving and changed from hardware to software encryption (among some other settings, but I can't remember what else I changed) but this hasn't worked. However, it did slightly change the nature of the problem - before it would disconnect and refuse to reconnect to wifi, now it stays connected but just suddenly stops all communication to the internet.
I've pasted my details in pastebin
Do I need to change my drivers? My laptop has the
Intel Corporation Centrino Advanced-N 6205 card, and I just used the default drivers that came with my Kubuntu installation. I'm new-ish to Linux so if you need more info please let me know

Hello, all. Fairly new ubuntu user here, decide to stuff the entirety of windows, haven't looked back.
I've recently gotten hooked up with a new connection with the ISP I'm working for at the moment. I don't have the correct kind of router (mine's DSL i.e. not for a cabled connection), so I'm using my other, old connection via an old router to access the internet.
For whatever reason, despite all cables being plugged in correctly and no damage to any of the cables whatsoever, xubuntu's not recognizing the new dish/connection. To clarify, I'm trying to connect to the new unit outside via cable (via the PoE box) straight from the dish outside. The ethernet port on my laptop normally lights up white when it recognizes an ethernet connection (like when I plug an ethernet cable from my old router into my laptop), but is not doing so in this case.
http://paste.ubuntu.com/25594240/
I've tried creating a new ethernet connection in Network < Edit Connections, using the mac address supplied with outside unit - it's (the outside unit/connection) also configured to automatically provide dhcp settings.
Any ideas where to start?

In the example below, it adds a rule to the nat tables PREROUTING chain:
Code:
*nat
:PREROUTING ACCEPT [0:0]
-A PREROUTING -p tcp --dport 80 -j REDIRECT --to-port 32400
COMMIT
The only thing I do not understand is what does the [0:0] means in this config, I've done a fair bit of reading and googling with no results. Thanks in advance for any help anyone can lend.

I need some help with connecting my Ubuntu laptop to my university wifi. My laptop used to work OK with my university wifi, but slower and more unstable compared to my Windows/Mac laptops. Not it cannot connect at all.
I have followed the suggestions from a similar question Can't connect to WPA2 Enterprise PEAP network (e.g. modify /etc/NetworkManager/system-connections/<WIFI_SSID>, use/not use ca-certificate, etc) but got no luck.
Please give any suggestion about how to debug this situation. Thanks!
My system: Ubuntu 16.04 Desktop, kernel 4.4.0-96-generic
Wireless adaptor (given by lscpi): Intel Corporation Centrino Wireless-N 2230 (rec c4).
The adaptor is not blocked according to rfkill
The university wifi that I try to connect to uses WPA2-Enterprise (PEAP/ MSCHAPv2) authentication.
The /etc/network/interfaces file contains only the default settings:
Quote:
auto lo
iface lo inet loopback
ifconfig can show the normal 3 interfaces: eth0, lo and wlan0. The section for wlan0 is as below.
Quote:

The full result of the `wireless-info` script is available
here.
What I have confirmed:
(1) My username and password is correct. I used them to authenticate other devices with no problems.
(2) My MAC address is not blocked. I booted the same computer into Windows 10 and Kali Linux, and it can access the same wifi using the same wireless adaptor with no problem.
(3) The wifi connection issue does not happen when connecting to other wifi which does not use `WPA2-Enterprise` (PEAP/ MSCHAPv2) authentication. For instance, connecting to me iPhone hotspot works fine.
What I think the problem might be:
(1) It might be authentication failure. After select the wifi that I want to connect, Ubuntu `NetworkManager` would prompt me to enter my username and password again, which does not usually happen when the saved password is correct.
(2) `/var/log/syslog` highlights the following lines:

I am sharing the complete version of `syslog` and `kern.log` here when I tried to connect to my university wifi.
For comparison, when I connect to my own iPhone hotspot successfully, the `syslog` and `kern.log` are like here. They are not too long.
What I might have messed up with recently:
(1) I tried to setup a network bridge from `wlan0` to `eth0` so that other devices (raspberry pi) can connect to the internet through Ethernet. I modified the `/etc/network/interfaces` to do that. It worked, but slows down the network significantly, so I reverted the `interfaces` file.
(2) I tried to setup static IP thought NetworkManager GUI. It didn't work and I reverted back to DHCP.
(3) When debugging the static IP issue, I tried to modify DNS settings in `/etc/resolv.conf` and `/etc/resolvconf/resolv.conf.d/base`.

Hi
I have installed Ubuntu Mate (16.4) alongside Win10 on a Lenovo Ideapad 310.
Since the install I have had an issue with my WIFI randomly dropping out and (mostly) not restarting until the notebook is rebooted. Unfortunately since I have also been attempting to resolve a malfunctioning Blue-tooth problem I have now completely broken the WIFI.
Connecting via cable takes a while to connect but is reliable and the WIFI works correctly in Win10. The Notebook WIFI card is listed as a Realtek RTL8821AE and (in Mate and Win10) it is connected to the 802.11ac network of a Netgear R2650ac router.
I have worked through the instructions in the sticky Before posting in Network & Wireless;
sudo apt update and
sudo apt dist-upgrade didnt help. The
"wireless-info.txt" is at
http://paste.ubuntu.com/25606108/
If needed, the output from
lspci -nnk | grep -iA2 net is
