[lubuntu] Compaq Presario C500 Wifi

After installing lubuntu 16.04 without a hitch - the broadcom 4311 wifi adapter is not working.

I followed the post by chilli555, here:
https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=2214110

which identified the required driver package as firmware-b43-installer, which I installed with:
Code:

sudo apt-get install  firmware-b43-installer
which seemed to go well, but after a reboot, still no joy.

Another post mentioned a need to blacklist the wl driver, which I did - still no joy.

The final part of the output from dmesg is as below:

Quote:

[ubuntu] Keep losing network connectivity

$

Hi there guys.

I'm experiencing a bit of an obscure problem, I keep (seemingly) randomly losing
network connecitvity on my PC's.

It is most apparent on my desktop PC. (Espcially if I am running it from a live
USB stick). This has been happening for a few months now, but getting progressivley
worse.

However this is just starting to affect my laptop too.

Normally a reboot or two will seem to resolve the issue for a little while.
But this is becoming more like 4/5/6 reboots in order to resolve the problem.
which is becoming quite frustrating.

My desktop and laptop are both hardwired via a switch. The modem / swtich / and cat cables
are all around 4-5 yrs old at this point.

My laptop sits on my computer desk, my desktop PC sits on a trolley next to my desk.
The cat cables are 5m in length, and its about 2.5m between the switch and the computers

I do move the trolley from time to time (to get that the plugs and what-not behind the
trolley), but there is a good amount of extra cable length, so there is no danger of
the cables being pulled out of the sockets in the switch.

I dont seem to get many dropouts when using wifi on my phone or tablet.

Troubleshooting -

1. I have re-seated the cat cables in all my devices (desktop, laptop, NAS)
2. Rebooted the (desktop, laptop, NAS)

This is leading me to think that I may have a dying swtich or dying ports on the switch.

Q1. Is there anything that I can check to determine where the issue lies ?
Q2. Am I missing anything ?
Q3. Am I best off just buying a new switch and or cat cables ?

Writing this out has just made me realise that I haven't powercycled the switch for
quite a while. (I will do this now).

Useful information:

My network set up is a follows -
Virgin media cable modem/router (downstairs)
Cat cable run upstairs to switch (upstairs in office)
PCs and NAS connected to switch (upstairs in office)

Modem:Virgin media Super hub 1
Switch:Linksys SE2500UK, 5-Port Gigabit Ethernet Switch

TIA for any help or advice.

[all variants] Can't get D-LINK DWL-122 (prism2_usb) to work on Ubuntu 16.04 LTS

Hello,

I have an older D-Link DWL-122 USB-Wifi adapter which I want to use on Ubuntu 16.04 to connect to a local AP on 2397 Mhz.
Even though this frequency is a bit below the "normal" ISM/WiFi spectrum I was hoping this might be feasible through the prism2_usb kernel module and linux-wlan-ng firmware which is open source and can be customized.
However, I could not even get this device to work on the regular WiFi bands.
Here is what I found in the syslog:

Code:

Hi!

I am relatively new to Linux and Lubuntu and while installing an old Acer Aspire 7520 I ran in to a problem.

When I try to use blutooth I get the following error message:

"Connection to BlueZ failed
Bluez daemon is not running, blueman-manager cannot continue.
This probably means there were no Bluetooth adapters
detected or Bluetooth daemon was not started."

What is wrong and how do I fix it?

Hello :p I am new in using Ubuntu and i got a problem in it. I just installed ubuntu 16.04 and it could not get dhcp ip on the enp1s0. I have been tried several things but it can't overcome the problem. On the /etc/network/interfaces file i have added the dhcp on enp1s0 but my computer still could not get the ip. Even when I'm restart the network use /etc/init.d/networking restart it's failed because of timeout. And when I checked on it give information that it's failed to start raise network interfaces and networking.service: Start operation timed out. Terminating

Please is there someone that can help me?

[SOLVED] New installation won't connect to wifi

Hi everyone,
I'm pretty new to Linux but have recently been given an old Dell desktop which I've installed Lubuntu 17.04 on. I've had no problems connecting to the internet via ethernet but I have a generic 802.11N wifi adapter which for some reason won't connect. When I check my available networks, the available wifi networks are showing but when I attempt to connect it seems to hang for about a minute before I get the message; "Disconnected - you are now offline"

Can anyone walk me through what I need to do to get my wifi working?

Thanks.

lookup local hostname from local IP

Hi,
I am using Ubuntu as a bridge, and I need to lookup hostname from IP.
Ubuntu is connected to ISP router, and dhcp on router shows all names, and IP.
Ubuntu is configured to get IP from DHCP
I have one Ubuntu on VM, and able to resolve hostname from IP, another one on PC, was able to resolve before, and now it cant !!
I have reinstalled Ubuntu fresh today, installed inetutils, dnsutils, bind9.

I did not configure reverse DNS as this were working before without it.

What am I missing to get the lookup working?

Usb announcing new devices to wifi?

I have an Epson printer connected to my lan over wifi.
Nearly every time I connect or disconnect an usb device to my computer the printer acknowledges this with a little noise.
Why is this so? Does my Ubuntu 16.04 announce new devices on the network or is something else happening?
Thanks in advance for any explanation.

[ubuntu] AD Domain Credentials, how to pass automatically?

I have an issue where we need to be able to browse a sharepoint environment that is locked down by AD Credentials. What I need to figure out, is a way to have Ubuntu (using Chromium) pass the AD Credentials automatically, so the user does not have to know the password and username.

Does anyone know of a way to do this and can point me to the documentation for it, so I can get it implemented?

Thanks!

Grub2 PXE Signed netbooting

OK, I am a very seasoned PXE Deployment person, who currently is being pushed into secure boot.

My current environment has a series of tools launched via PXE to service a number of machines. It is not practical to put them on a stick. It is not practical to disable Secure Boot. It is not practical to use PXE Linux, as we need Secure Boot and PXE Linux doesn't compile without a lot of work on any current version of Linux.

We are currently distributing out custom Windows PE Software wtih Bootmgfw.efi , launched via PXE, and that is great except it won't let us launch non Microsoft goodies, like Memtest86 UEFI, or the new Parted Magic that is Secure Boot supported. So I am looking at Grub2.

I am using the Grub2 signed from Ubuntu 14, which will load an unsigned kernel after SHIM loads it. HOWEVER, everhy signed version of Grub2 I load times out when loading the Bootmgfw.efi file. My setup is as follows:

ISC DHCP Server 4.5x
HPA TFTP Server Latest
Lubuntu Latest as DHCP server.

Test environement Hyper-V with Microsoft UEFI Secure Boot enabled, and several different brands of laptops. I am able to reproduce the problem without Secure Boot enabled as well, so we don't have to bark up that tree.

No matter what I do, here is my output from Grub. I have loaded all modules, and even loaded from the command line of Grub itself, and attached a screenshot.

TFTP Server shows a connection starts and then stops. Done with TFTPD32 and HaneWin DHCP. Problem is only with Grub, I have booted the crap out of everything with Bootmgfw and PXELINUX,but good ol Pxelinux is depreciated.

[ubuntu_mate] Ideapad 310 Blue-tooth not working

Hi
I have a Win10 and Ubuntu Mate (16.4) dual boot Lenovo Ideapad 310.
Since the install I have been unable to get the Bluetooth to work (it works in Win10). Also, I had a problem with my WIFI randomly dropping out which is now fixed (see thread at https://ubuntuforums.org/ )

The Bluetooth appears to be activated, there is an active logo in the panel and a right click brings up a functioning menu e.g. Turn Bluetooth Off, Make Discoverable... Devices, Adaptors... etc. Using the Devices option I can Search for devices but it doesn’t find any, I have tested it with a Zopo and MotoG phone and a cheap Bluetooth speaker.

I have spent some time online but haven’t found much that addresses my problem, I did find a Bluetooth Setup page but it covers 10.04 and 11.04 so I haven’t tried it, https://help.ubuntu.com/ .

I have run the update and upgrade commands and I have created a current Wireless Info Script at http://paste.ubuntu.com/25637461/

Any input that can be offered is appreciated.

Regards.
