[all variants] Could not autheticate to server: could not parse challenge .. webdav on MS sharepoint

On an internal company network, I'm having problems mounting a sharepoint webdav folder

As far as I can tell the URL, username and password are correct ... also I am able to mount another webdav folder (ubuntu server) without problems, so the davfs2 installation is working

When trying to mount I get:

/sbin/mount.davfs: Mounting failed.
Could not authenticate to server: could not parse challenge

Any suggestions?

I cannot install Edimax wifi dongle

Hello,

I bot a new wireless dongle, an Edimax EW-7811UAC with very nice theoretical hardware specs. The dongle works well on Windows, however there are issues on Linux, raspbian and ubuntu.
I want to install it on my raspberry pi 3B. The problem consists in the fact that it is not listed in ifconfig/iwconfig, at all.

lsusb returns this line: Bus 001 Device 004: ID 7392:a812 Edimax Technology Co., Ltd

I have tried to install it using the driver from edimax website and I have the following error when I get to the "make" part:

make ARCH=armv7l CROSS_COMPILE= -C /lib/modules/4.9.41-v7+/build M=/home/pi/test/rtl8812AU_8821AU_linux_v4.2.2_7502.20130517 modules
make[1]: *** /lib/modules/4.9.41-v7+/build: No such file or directory. Stop.
Makefile:1041: recipe for target 'modules' failed
make: *** [modules] Error 2

Also if I try to install build-essential it says that build-essential is already the newest version.
Where can I locate the build essential packages? The driver for this edimax should also be there, again a "make" compiling part would be required.

In another driver package I have donwloaded there is an install script, I have runed it and it triggers this:

[ubuntu] Network connection failure

There is network connection loss on an Ubuntu 16.04.3 desktop machine.
systemctl status networking.service gives following output:

Failed to start Raise network interfaces.

sudo service networking restart command failed too.

ifconfig -a gives 3 interfaces as output: docker0, eno1 and lo.

There wasn't any configuration change on machine, I tried to restart it too.

I modified /etc/network/interfaces file with the following content:

Code:

auto eno1
iface eno1 inet  dhcp

Command sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart` was successful too, but status is: active(exited).

Is it possible to restore default network settings?

Problem with wireless card 16.04

So, i just bought a new laptop (HP 15 bs-013ns), and installed Ubuntu 16.04 alongside Windows 10. Up to the point where I finished installing Ubuntu everything was fine, I can dual-boot without a problem... But then I realized my wireless card was not working, or at least wireless networks weren't being listed by Network Manager. Tried restarting the service but no luck.

So I run lshw -C network:

It seems like a driver related problem. Secure Boot is disabled, by the way. I've done some research and I'm afraid this device may not be supported yet.
Still, I'm a bit lost here to be honest, so I'm asking for help here as a last resort.
Thanks in advance.

[ubuntu] artful netplan ipv6 yaml netplan generate broken

$

Hello -

I have set up an artful VM to start testing with today and must admit to being frustrated by the ifupdown->netplan transition.

In my instance I have static IPv4 and IPv6 addresses to be assigned to a particular interface. The only documentation I can find on IPv6 in relation to netplan is in the manpage for netplan. There it states:

Code:

addresses (sequence of scalars)

Add static addresses to the interface in addition to the ones received through DHCP or RA.  Each sequence entry is in CIDR  notation,  i.  e.
of the form addr/prefixlen.  addr is an IPv4 or IPv6 address as recognized by inet_pton(3) and prefixlen the number of bits of the subnet.

Example: addresses: [192.168.14.2/24, 2001:1::1/64]

Following this advice I have set my IPv4 and IPv6 static addresses following the convention specified.

When I try to generate the backend config using "netplan --debug generate" the following error is returned:

Code:

Invalid YAML at //etc/netplan/01-netcfg.yaml line 7 column 40: found unexpected ':'
Clearly, netplan is telling me the : in the IPv6 address is unexpected even though the manpage clearly states this is how it is to be configured. Further, netplan appears to count lines and columns starting at 0 which doesn't make sense, either.

Any ideas?

Hello All

I am using Ubuntu 16.4 with Firefox. My Home page has been Yahoo.com for the last 10 years.

I was trying to track a USPS package and clicked on trackpackagehome.com . Some web sites call it a high jacker.

Now the trackpackagehome.com page comes up when I open Fire fox, and I have not been able to get Yahoo.com to come up as my home page.

Greetings Ubuntuforums

Please I need help. I'm using Lubuntu 17.04, I tried to copy a file using "scp" remotely through ssh but logged in the host computer, not local. Ater that when I try to login via ssh I get this error "connect to host foobar port 22: Connection refused".

Things that work:
ssh localhost indeed works

ssh host in another PC through the same router works

Things that haven't worked:
sudo apt-get remove openssh-client openssh-server
sudo apt-get install openssh-client openssh-server
sudo ufw allow 22
ssh -p 22 foo@bar
ssh foo@IP
Going to /etc/ssh/sshd_config and setting "PermitRootLogin yes"
sudo rm /etc/ssh/sshd_config > sudo apt-get purge openssh-server > sudo apt-get install openssh-server
sudo iptables -L > sudo iptables -A INPUT -p tcp --dport ssh -j ACCEPT
/etc/init.d/ssh restart and service ssh restart
rm -rf /root/.ssh/*
/etc/init.d/ssh restart
sudo service ssh restart
Changed /etc/ssh/sshd_config, change Port 22 to Port 2222

Please anybody can help me?, I've donde almost everything I found on google.

Thank you :D

Wifi adapter suddenly gone

Recently I've switched from Windows 10 to Ubuntu 16.04. Everything went fine. Wifi was working as it should, until this afternoon. I've done nothing special with my installation, but suddenly there was no available wifi connection and it seemed that also my wifi adapter was completely gone in Ubuntu. I did some research and used the wireless script info (https://ubuntuforums.org/showthread....5#post12350385). Here is the output:

Code:

So it seems that Ubuntu doesn't detect my wifi adapter at all anymore.

I've checked whether there is some hardware switch on my laptop, there isn't. Also, I've double checked whether wifi is enabled in my bios, it is. I've also tried to disable wifi in my bios, booted ubuntu, rebooted and enabled wifi again and then booted back into Ubuntu. That also didn't help.

What could be the problem?

I don't get why it fails to connect to my Wifi even though they are showing up in my network manager.
Here's my /etc/NetworkManager/NetworkManager.conf:

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Gibberish when distributing files on cluster using torrents

Hi all,
I am running Ubuntu 16.04.1 LTS 64bit on a cluster and I need to be able to distribute large files on that cluster. My idea was to distribute through torrents.
I tried creating a torrent and manage to get a torrent file, but when trying to seed them with one node and download them with another the the second node seems to download in a few seconds and creates the folders and files with correct names and all, but the files themselves appear as unreadable gibberish when I look inside them.

I tried creating the torrent file both with ctorrent and with transmission-create and seeding and downloading both with ctorrent and qbittorent and with all combinations I get the same results.

Is there something I'm understanding/doing wrong?

Thanks in advance for any help available.

[ubuntu] WiFi Woes

Folks,

I ran Ubuntu 12:04 for a few years using wifi with no problem.

Due to laptop failure I upgraded to 14:04 and subsequently to 16:04 BUT have been unable to use wifi successfully on my Toshiba Satellite.

I see there appear to be issues with many over this, have tried some of the tips but all to no avail. Fortunately Ethernet is fairly easy but I really would like to resolve this.

I have access to two different APs on my network, one normal 2.4GHz and a 5GHz - both connect then seem to drop.

Code:

sudo lshw -C network
[sudo] password for geoff:

  *-network DISABLED
      description: Wireless interface
product: RTL8821AE 802.11ac PCIe Wireless Network Adapter
      vendor: Realtek Semiconductor Co., Ltd.
      physical id: 0
      bus info: pci@0000:02:00.0
      logical name: wlp2s0
      version: 00
      serial: 80:a5:89:81:0c:3d
      width: 64 bits
      clock: 33MHz
capabilities: pm msi pciexpress bus_master cap_list ethernet physical wireless
      configuration: broadcast=yes driver=rtl8821ae driverversion=4.4.0-93-generic firmware=N/A latency=0 link=no multicast=yes wireless=IEEE 802.11abgn
      resources: irq:47 ioport:2000(size=256) memory:f0c00000-f0c03fff

It appears to be using the correct driver so I have no idea where to go from here.

Any hints to resolve this would be greatly appreciated.

Hey guys,

I've been dealing with this issue at work, can't connect to the Wifi network here.

It works on another of my laptop with the same OS and a different network card, but this Thinkpad T401s with a rtl8191sevb card can't stay connected.

The wifi will connect, ping or any other network service won't work, and after a few seconds it disconnects me. Then it just loops over that endlessly.

Following is the syslog when this happens.

We can see that I'm getting a DHCP lease, but then we start seeing something like "Michael MIC failure detected", and "TKIP countermeasures started" just before "deauthenticating from 02:18:4a:bb:32:f0 by local choice (Reason: 14=MIC_FAILURE)"

The network here is using WPA2 with TKIP (not AES)

Things I tried so far:

Uninstall TLP, disable power saving in the BIOS, disabled wifi card power saving.

sudo iwconfig wlan0 power off

sudo killall wpa_supplicant

Adding "options iwlwifi 11n_disable=1" to iwlwifi.conf

Unfortunately this is not my AP so I have to live with TKIP. Any ideas?

Quite frustrating that this works on 3 out of my 4 machines. Just this one thinkpad 410s is giving me troubles!

Thanks!

UFW blocks OpenVPN Clients

I have a server that is set to allow 192.168.1.0/24 to connect, as well as forcing all traffic through vpn. When I use pfsense' openvpn server, I can connect to my home network fine and access all clients except ones that are running ufw. My client IP is 10.0.8.2 and I've allowed all traffic in UFW from that IP range but still no dice.

Share NTFS Drive via NFS

Hello, I'm wondering if this is possible.

I've got NFS setup and working. I added the external NTFS drive to the /etc/exports file then ran
Code:

sudo exportfs -ra
I was presented with "...does not support NFS export"

This is an external NTFS storage drive that is accessed by both Windows and Ubuntu.

It is currently, and has been forever, shared via Samba but file transfer is SO SLOOOOW.... ~2MB/minute (this is a USB 3.0 drive in a 3.0 port over a gigabit network) so I was hoping to share via NFS for speed.

Thanks

[all variants] Can ssh-agent be safely removed? (basic 'buntu use, nothing special)

I am wondering if the ssh-agent service can be removed on a typical 'buntu system.
I have noticed that it is set to run by default and is always running unless I specifically kill it and/or disable the service.
If I just remove it permanently, will there be any drawback? Isn't it kind of a security risk to have it running all the time if I don't use it for anything?

I am still able to connect to the internet and to do everything else as normal, so what's the point?
I don't ever ssh into remote systems and I don't want anybody remote ssh-ing into my system, right?

I can't fully comprehend all of this, but the following article lists a bunch of concerns about security hole problems with openssh:

Ubuntu 17.04 - TP-Link T1U 5GHz USB - Network Manager - device not managed

Hi,
I've got Lenovo G510 with Broadcom wifi (wlp8s0) and trying to run the TP-Link Archer T1U 5GHz USB dongle.
I've compiled, installed the drivers: https://github.com/ulli-kroll and loaded them using the: `sudo insmod mt7610u.ko`
It shows up in the Network Manager, like:
WiFi Network (MediaTek WiFi)
device not managed

Doing the:
`sudo ifconfig wlan0 up`
and
`sudo iwlist wlan0 scan`
I can see some networks, so I expect driver works OK.

a) How do I disable my `wlp8s0` in Network Manager and make it work with the `wlan0`
I've tried to add this line: `iface wlp8s0 inet manual` to `/etc/network/interfaces` hoping that Network Manager won't try to manage device defined in this file, but my Broadcom Wifi is still managed by Network Manager.
I've also tried to empty the: `/usr/lib/NetworkManager/conf.d/10-globally-managed-devices.conf` file, previously it had this line inside:
`[keyfile]
unmanaged-devices=*,except:type:wifi,except:type:wwan`

After reboot it didn't work though. Still Broadcom works OK, TP-Link is unmanaged

b) Is there a way to load `mt7610u.ko` during boot?

I've tried to add the `mt7610u` to `/etc/modules` then ran `sudo depmod -a`, but still my module is not loaded after reboot.

Please find the output from `wireless-info` tool to give you more details about my setup.

Any help much appreciated.
